Yup, last night I put out a request for shipping on uShip and I'll look for other options today. Time has slipped away, work is busy and time away from family needs to be well spent to justify and a 3000+ mile trip in 90° midwest heat is not my idea of "well spent". Been there, done that. The bike is being shipped.
Last week was a crazy shoot for my favorite clients, Rev'It! (my photos on the link), and it was a blast and exhausting as usual. We had a Shelby Cobra and a Diavel and had police close the Williamsburg bridge for some running shots. I wish I could show them but until they go public they're "top secret" but I will say that this was the best shoot ever with Revit and we've been setting a higher bar each successive year. That's me in the climbing harness with a $30,000 Hasselblad on a gyroscope skimming the pavement for 70mph passes. It's very cool.
This week Judiaann is traveling for work so I always want to accomplish something significant while she's away so when she comes home there's some visual progress. Not sure what that's going to be just yet but I certainly have a lot of choices. She wants something finished so I may finish the small bathroom. Not sure. I prefer to make substantive progress rather than superficial so we're at odds there.
I also want to take a day to finish my Guzzi exhaust for me and I have a few work appointments as well. It will be an interesting week.

Question re: tracking shot speed. Do you need to be travelling so fast to get the effect you are looking for?

I own a bunch of REV'IT! gear, their new urban line of stuff is pretty great. Pretty much what I've been wanting for the past decade (good protection that doesn't look "moto specific").

Thanks for the tour yesterday. I had just skimmed through this thread a day or two before my visit and, wow, what progress! It's a great looking place and it's very easy to see how fantastic it's going to be once you're finished.

I think you're right. I'm going to concentrate on that and aim for a finish Friday. I'm already out of time but what the heck - I need a goal and we've all seen how good I am with a goal and how awful I am with a deadline...
That is one of the nicest lenses around. If I didn't need the speed I'd have kept mine but the length is as perfect as they come. I truly wish it came in a 2.8 version but the IS makes up for it. You're going to love that lens.

Love this thread - one of my all-time favourites.
It helps. It's a bump to motion ratio that tends to be favorable. In the end we slowed it down to about 40 and found a sweet spot. Like last year, when the embargo is up I'll post a few shots.
When I am shooting like that I shoot tethered and my first assistant actually controls the camera from the laptop so I don't have to worry about light. We're constantly changing the settings as we go but I only concentrate on framing and focus. I manual focus the camera as the auto is too slow and only for the center spot. It's a lot to keep track of while simultaneously breathing exhaust.
You'll like the new stuff. It looks like nice clothing but happens to have protection. They even have a pair of waterproof jeans that I'm getting as soon as the production goes into swing. I ended up with a couple of pair of the prototype boots and they're very cool.

Like I said when you came over - I tend to only see all the things I either screwed up or have yet to do so it's nice to be reminded that I've come a long way.
Okay, on the advice here I'm trying to get the bathroom finished. I've just ordered the mirror and I'm going to get back up there and install the vent and work on trim.

I think that's fairly normal for the creative/perfectionist type. I'm wired the same way and try to keep reminding myself that those little mistakes are a sign that whatever it is was made by a human. You're kicking *** and I'm sure we're all jonesing for more updates.
you know what would be awesome ? , especially since you have small kids, a wall that is a chalkboard, the company I work for painted all the walls with dry-erase paint and it works great !

That chalkboard wall idea is a good idea, but I instead see a wall with: a large stenciled Guzzi chalkboard, a large stenciled Hasselblad chalkboard, and a variety of a few smaller stenciled Festool chalkboards. Maybe some mid century modern stenciled pottery and furniture chalkboards, too.
So this week was supposed to be my kick ***, get things done week. I was going to knock out the bathrooms and clear out that back room. What have I got done? Well, a lice outbreak at school meant that my kids have been home with me for the better part of the week and that I've spent the majority of my time doing laundry, then more laundry and then, after a little rest I did some more laundry. It *****.
Still, I have today. It's not much time and a lot of it needs to be spent cleaning but I'll try my best to get something done.

So yours is I think the 3rd or 4th journal I've binge read since joining, and you are in great company ( Jacks 12 guage, Ricks Audi Double, Dubbers Single)
I must give you High HIGH praise for all your attention to detail, and can empathize with the strain it takes on family life.
I've been the right hand to a few friends who have bought old homes and completely gutted them.
One was actually a 90+ year old place that when all the framing and additions were said and done he only had half of the original roof, 3 exterior walls and the footing.
EVERYTHING else went! Especially when we started ripping up the floors and discovered that the entire 1st and second floor joists were made up of "pallets" (a 4'x4' "square" made of 2x4s that were then bolted together) I kid you not.
This summer makes it going on 2 years and still not 100% finished.
I laughed when you said that in the motorcycle world there is prob less than 2 degrees of separation, and mentioned earlier that Kolb is a friend of yours. As a Suzuki SV owner, his name is well known in the community.
Keep up the great work and know that the end will come.

Yeah, Scott is a machining GOD! It's rare that someone can be both skilled as a machinist and fabricator but also have stunning and creative taste. He's the complete package and my inspiration when we built the boxer together - him mostly. I was good at keeping progress moving.
He's working on some very cool projects too.

I had ordered some stainless rectangular tube for my epically long 7' towel rack. I used a belt sander to grain it but I was surprised at how long it took to get a decent grain. It was a pain.
Having just finished my Guzzi exhaust I was in my zone for stainless and put down some very nice bead. Here's where me and mrs. diverged.
When I installed it she looked at it and, instead of saying, "wow, you're really killing it on your stainless welds" instead said, "Umm, why isn't it finished?" Huh? "Why can you see all the welds?"
Because they're amazing! Duh!
Umm, upon reflection, she's right. No one but me and a handful of people here give a dame about my nice stainless welds. I'm going to take it down and brush them out but until then I'll appreciate them.
Next up I ordered the mirror for the bathroom. Keeping it simple I caulked the sink in place and did a full mirror behind it. I decided to mount the lights on the mirror to aid the brightness but I needed to make some spacers for the brackets. So this is a spacey self portrait...
Pardon the hand prints on the mirror but my friend Tom was visiting and he helped me glue the mirror in place which included a fair amount of pressing and hand prints. And tape.
But it is in and the last thing to do is to finish the trim but I've been too damn busy to do it.
Next week I hope.

You should blow her mind and tell her about the people who torch titanium to achieve coloration.
I have come to hate square drives. Partly because they strip out under heavy torque but partly because they create an opportunity for "screw clockers" to catch me not clocking my screws.
I have come to love torx (Robertson you call them?) as they drive very well. I have even found pocket screw versions. Stainless makes them all the more useful.

Robertsons are the square ones. Torx is torx everywhere I think, just beware of the Torx Plus!

Nice welds! I would want to keep them, but I think I would stick with the exhaust and let her win the call in the bathroom. I am very slowly leaning to pick the battles worth fighting. And looking back over the last few years I have picked some duds and lost them all. Will never budge when it comes to the workshop though.
Oh, thanks Gregor for the inspiration to play with seiko watches. I got my old one back from my folks from when I was a teenager. I thought it was huge, but now it seems small compared to today's styles. Turns out it is a seiko 601, the upside down version of the 'arnie' one from the commando movie.
Will change the battery and hope for the best. I don't need another hobby but who knows what will happen.

I would have noticed! Good looking beads there G. I wouldn't want to be the guy to clean up the color and restore the grain direction though. I bet you could get close with a nylox wheel.

Well I hope to bring them together again at some point soon. This has been a busy work summer for me and it looks like I may be finally back in the black soon and I'd like to redress some of the bike sales I had to make to get here. But I still want to keep work moving forward.
I'm hoping to wrap up enough work this week to finish the bath and then perhaps take a little break.

Gregor, I found myself in lebanon indiana today buying some systainers off of a guy and he informed me that Festool USA was right down the road. After I got a tour of the place the nice lady asked how I got started in Festool and I placed the blame squarely on your shoulders. Told her about your build here and your FOG username so hopefully you get a t shirt or something from them!

Right?! This man forced me to cash in on some of the reconditioned sales. In fact, my bank account has filed a grievance, you should be expecting something in the mail in 3-5 business days.
TS 55 was in great condition despite being 30% off, the sander had some more scratching but acceptable for being reconditioned. Still need a dust extractor, not sure where I'm going with that yet. The first of many Festool items I'm sure...thanks a lot, Gregor.

Ah, Revit boots! I just got a pair myself from our last shoot. I LOVE them. Little known fact is that Revit's head designer's father was a cobbler so he's particularly adept at the shoes.
Okay, so we've not announced it but one of the other things that's taken up some time is that I was contracted by Revit to build them a motorcycle with Chris. We're in the initial stages of the design but once we start the build my job will be to manage it, document it and photograph it. I'm super excited to have this opportunity. Revit has enjoyed my build threads on ADV and I've been encouraging them to build a bike for a while and with the introduction of a whole new line of Adventure gear the time was ripe and the overlap obvious. More info when we begin.
Also taking up some time...
