One sale today to start my weekend. This is the same company that had a local sale a few weeks back where I got a Craftsman block grinder.
The open their sales at 5:00 on Friday which is great that I can hit it after work. this one was on the way home so I managed to be first in line and scored a few items from the garage. I never went in the house.

I was prepared and tagged the vise in seconds along with notifying a worker of my intentions.
Other items include wrenches from Plvmb and Proto LA, a Craftsman long C wrench, some Craftsman long C swivel sockets, SK swivel sockets, Sk Deep sockets,a Snap On "ferret" extension(needs a spring and ball, anyone?)
a pair of VACO wire strippers/crimpers,Petersen Vise Grips,Snap On ratchet wrench and a set of Cornwell angle wrenches, and a $6 creeper that I wished I had a few hours ago at work, now we will have a creeper at our disposal.
total spent was $50,the vise was marked $15:shocking:

On my way to pick up my auction winnings, these were .50 for the lot. Fairmount obstruction wrench 3/4 & 7/8, Cornwell 9/16, and something I've never heard of before, Eskilstuna pliers from Sweden.

IMG_8699.JPG

This was auction #1 pickup. The small craftsman box w/drawers was $30, the Toledo chair was $1 (I've been looking for one for a while :willy_nil I need to find the stool version), the craftsman box was $5, and everything else was $1.

IMG_8701.JPG

Spent a bit of time digging found this stuff in the various boxes (lots of other stuff that wasn't very good). Set of SK wrenches, a Proto LA DOE, Linesmans, Utica duck bill, Indestro sockets, a tube flare kit from National Garage Tool in Jackson Michigan, and a small chunk of what I think is railroad although it's smaller than I thought it'd be.

IMG_8703.JPG

Second auction reinforced that you should always go to the preview. $6 on the first bin, $12 on the second, $6 on the 3rd and 4th, $10 on the 5th, and $8 on the last one. Looks okay here right?

IMG_8700.JPG

So here's the story on what was actually in them. First one had an SK pouch with some nut drivers in it. All Taiwanese, only thing worthwhile in it was a pair of SK pliers and a Mitutoyo telescoping gauge that is brand new. Second box had a cardboard box with a bunch of swivel sockets in it, about 25% of them were USA made. The rest of the tote had nothing but 22 MM sockets in it, 95% of which were Herbrand. The third was all 5/8" deep sockets. Biggest 'score' out of the box was a Snap-On, it's probably 75% Thorsen USA. Fourth was all 5/8" shallow sockets, the majority again were Herbrand. The fifth had a whole bunch of Cornwell impact sockets, but they were all one of three sizes. There were a fair amount of impact swivels in it, the rails were K-Tool SAE and Metric impact swivel sets and an SK chrome set. Quite a few other loose ones, but not enough to really put together a set. The last one had an SK set of sockets on a rail and a whole bunch of loose 1/4" sockets, probably 1/3 were USA. Several large 30mm+ sockets as well. Here's a quick picture of some of the keepers, some of the US brands were Proto (including swivels), Easco, Thorsen, SK, and Indestro/Duro Chrome.

IMG_8702.JPG

Anyone want some 5/8 sockets or 22 mm sockets? Any idea how to unload these?

Thanks for scoop on the Craftsman box, Outlaw and niner.

As for rank, don't worry about the mix-up. Every Master Sergeant I know just sits around on his fat a$$ all day. Privates actually work on vehicles.

Eric, that blow mold box is metric? It should have slots for a set of combos under the storage side cover, if not the wrenches.

I'm pretty sure that is the same metric set I bought for use as my road box. I added some drivers, piers and a second set of combos. as well as Allens and some other odds and ends. I did a complete engine swap on my rig using those tools. (deliberately, so I knew I had everything I needed to work on the sucker)

Outlaw-
The set is sae & metric 6 & 12pt.. Under the lid is open space. I plan on adding some other stuff as you did. I'll be using it as my "junkyard set".
I bought all this at two different times. The first time I got all the truck brands
and a few c-man. Went to work and thought about it, and went bach at lunch.

I ended up making a verygood contact-a very nice oder man and his wife.
They take care of some of the maintinance of the storage-And they get all the
"auction" stuff they want, stuff left behind-no pay, whatever. They have a sale once every month or so. I can't wait to see what they get next.

Eric, if it fits like mine did, get a sheet of 3/4" or 1" foam to go between the storage cover and the sockets and ratchets. That keeps them from wandering as the box is manhandled.

You can also open up the lock hole and get a std. Master padlock onto it.

I'd like to find another set, or even just the box, (I can fill it easily) either for a second set, or for an SAE set. I'm generally not fond of Blowmold boxes, but this one is the exception.

You **** on that UHL score:thumbup:!!
It's a later plastic one so it's not ideal, but I couldn't believe no one else threw a bid on it. I found another one a few weeks ago that had a replacement round seat w/no back on it but the guy was firm at $40 for it. Still looking for the rolling tall one with the wood seat.

If that box is for sale/trade, message me ;) I'm straight on sockets though

I think I'm holding onto it for right now, sorry guys. I'll let you know if I decide to part with it.

I've only had the chance to buy one Gerster and it was shot, missing a drawer, door, mirror, wrap and it was falling apart so I passed. This one is really nice, only missing the door but I can't use a door on my table anyway and one drawer need a small repair. I am beyond thrilled! This wrench holder is for the SAE.

Yes, thanks! :rocker:

Nine, I have a Gerstener I don't really need, came loaded with machinist tools, but the box had the coverings coming off, but had all the parts including the door with a key. Send me some pics with dimensions of the drawers/door. If they match, it's yours. Just pay me the shipping...No tools of course !, they're mine lol !

WOW, thanks Nochina! The door opening is 11" x 25" so close to those dimensions. Box is 25 x 9.5 and 15.75.

Went out for a bit this morning, but I've got questions on some of it. I paid $40 for the craftsman set, complete except for a missing 1/2" ratchet (the tops got the 1/4" stuff). Figured it's a good set for the kids to keep them out of my toolbox. I paid $5 for the 1/2 3450 RPM craftsman motor, I'm not quite sure I'm doing with yet. It's got the alternating shiny/flat stripes in the chrome and an on/off switch. Guy said it was on a lathe when he got it, but he doesn't think that was the original application. When you plug it in, it takes about 2 seconds before it starts spinning, is that normal? It also has a four step pulley, any idea if this is the one that everyone wants?

The stuff on the bottom left cost $1. It's a Heyco ratchet that seems seized up, it's stamped W. Germany. Don't know anything about Heyco. There's a wera t-handle hex driver, a snap-on nut driver, and a Hazet socket. The vise grips, Proto LA DBE, and two 1/4" snap-on sockets were $2 and all the SK 1/2" drive sockets were another $8.

Shadow, did he say if is was a wood or metal lathe? (I'd guess wood) but it could also have been originally on a DP.

Nine...how is the door on a Gerstner held in place when closed?

There are two pins on the bottom left and right side of the door that slide in slots when it's lowered, when it is closed there are two spring loaded pins in the box front panel that are pushed down by the lid into two corresponding holes in the top edge of the door.

Bottom track inside box:

Top spring pin that gets depressed when the lid is closed:

Top spring pin depressed protruding out the bottom to a corresponding hole in the top of the door:

Thursday dad and I rode our motorcycles to Canandaigua, New York for the New York Steam Engine Association show that is held there. The name is deceptive, it was actually a huge antique tractor/stationary engine/farm equipment show that also had a large section of antique construction equipment actually moving dirt. Oh and vintage tractor pulling. As the name implies, there were also steam engines and large kero burners. And a huge flea market, most was junk or overpriced. There were a few gems though:

I picked up this S-K 40970 because it is spotless. It was used, but lightly. Action fresh. Had one of those goofy plastic thumbwheel discs on it, which I immediately removed.

Cornwell AJ-12 adjustable, didn't really need it but i like how it feels, and had never seen a Cornwell before. Is this a rebrand? Or did they actually make their own?

Best for last, pair of Knipex 71 01 200 SBA Co-Bolt mini bolt cutters, new in package, for $30 as marked in photo. Guy had a large booth with lots of name brand tools new and used. Some were average to good prices, some were a little wishful, and then there was this. On Amazon they are $54.

Today I took a 120 mile round trip of Metro Detroit. Met up with a fellow GJ'er, FrankLee and he was not only kind enough to invite me to his house and gave me a tour of the shop. He has a PLVMB collection that left me drooling, gave me a locking handle for my new found Wilton, and a cap for an SK mag screwdriver I picked up earlier in the day, He also gave me a lead on the second sale I went to today. great guy, glad to finally meet in person.

sale #1 3rd day of a 4 day sale. Place had so many tools the guy had a built in wooden toolbox where most houses would have had a china cabinet. Some stuff was priced astronomically others were decent and sellers kept saying they will work ,depending upon how much you buy.
So I ended up with this group for $40:
004.jpg

005.jpg

006.jpg
Channellocks, Nupla hammer, Petersen Vise Grips, Craftman RHFT,Long C breaker bar,Long C prybar , =V= series T bar, Bonney extension,Proto/Challenger wrenches.Proto adj. wrench Craftsman Vanadium DOE,more Powrkraft wrenches , a Williams and an SK wrench.

Second stop after spending some time with FrankLee I hit a CL sale he had given me a heads-up on, older gentleman selling a small portion of his tools ,I asked but couldn't get to see the rest but I found quite a bit to buy anyhow:

008.jpg
009.jpg
010.jpg
012.jpg
Nearly complete SK 3/8" set( I NEED a 9/16,6pt deepwell)
ratchets from Craftsman,Wright,SK,&Cornwell
Snap On wrenches,SO extensions,Indestro Box,Kennedy 1022 Cantilever box,an Indestro speeder handle, a Williams socket or two, a few SK Wayne wrenches and loose sockets.
Now Joe was a sharp older guy and he liked his tools and he liked his money so I walked away $115 lighter from his sale. I can recover most of that with selling the 1022. Its pretty clean.

And back to Stop No. 2, but before we go there, that last stop with the Penen's wrenches reminded me that I had at least one wrench from last week, so when I got home I checked and sure enough, it completes the set! So here they all are in the clamp! :D

attachment.php

Second stop was almost as good as stop no 1; I got in and out for $10!

Misc Punches (All USA) a Craftsman Prybar, a bundle of Silfos, a Brass Duck hook, a NOS USA Stanley Hasp, an odd multi hammer, a Chisel Honing Guide, a Conduit punch, and a copper plated Bottle-Can opener;

attachment.php

Several Boxes:

A wood box for maybe small wine bottles? Interesting doable hinged lid.

attachment.php

attachment.php

A lockable metal box about a foot square:

attachment.php

and a longer wood box, almost 2 ft long, probably for some instrumentation.

Dang one more pic left to post...
