Boy your guys score Big! I just score little. I have a new addiction; older tools. Today I got a Walden Worcester "kissin cousin" to my WW socket I posted as a mystery the other day. Cost about $1. Also a huge clamp for $5 and a Tiawanese ratched with a quick realeast button for about $4. I have never had one of those, quick release that is.
But, what made my day was three Craftsman Vanadium Steel open end wrenches for $5. Maybe I paid too much, however I find I am enjoying old tools. I have all the new tools I need to work on what I work on so the old ones are fun.
The Craftsman wrenches came from a man who recently died at about 98 years old; kind of fun to think that he probably bought these wrenches new; back in the 1930s when he was a young man.
There are some other old wrenches there marked Vanadium but not Craftsman; AA says they are a sub brand; might be fun to see if they are still there in the next day or two.
I also like Anglican theology books; 100 years old or more are best; no corruption.
Maybe it's the same way with tools?

I got a chance to spend a few hours Thursday, Friday, and Saturday checking out sales. The first was just down the road from my house, and I picked up this Lincoln battery-powered grease gun. It has the big battery pack, like new, and the battery is good! Not bad for $40.00.

Next was an estate sale, but there was no one there.

I checked out a couple of dry holes early on Friday, then dropped by a fellow that I have bought several items from off CL, who has a sale a couple of times a year. I brought home the following items from there:

Craftsman wet sharpening stone (appears unused) $20.00
A water filter with 30+ refills for $30.00 (I use these in my irrigation)
2" Camlock set and 1-1/2" ball valve for $10.00
Scotch-Brite pads for $2.00
Proto 1/4" drive ratchet for $4.00 Works like new.
Blue Point 3/8" flex-head ratchet for $7.00. Smooth action, fairly fine tooth.
Long Mac 3/4 combo, 7/8 Challenger combo, 11/16 SnapOn combo, Proto DOE 5/8 angle, Williams angle DOE in 9/16x5/8 and 11/16x25/32. SnapOn angle DOE 11/16, and pebble Plomb 5/8. $2.00 ea.
Schrader air regulator 1/2" NPT, 5-125 psi regulation, 400psi inlet. $5.00
OTC angle screwdriver, chainsaw wrench, peterson vise-grip needle nose, and Channellock needle nose pliers, $0.50 to $2.00 ea.
Plomb wrenches $2.00 ea.:
DBE 15/16x1 LA
DBE 9/16x5/8 LA
DBE 1/2x9/16 WF-81
Combo 5/8 LA
Combo 13/16 LA
Combo 7/8 LA
Combo 1-1/16 USA
Tappet DOE 13/16x7/8

I checked out the no-show estate from the previous day, and found:
P&C combos in 7/16 and 11/16 (not shown) $2.00 ea.
Proto and Blue Point snap ring pliers $0.50 ea.
T&B crimper pliers $1.00

Another estate sale turned up a Kelsey-Hayes tubing wrench with Chrysler markings 3/4 x 7/8 for $2.00

A last estate sale made for a group buy of $22.00
Several baking pans that I use for parts trays and drip pans
Craftsman screwdriver
Funnel
Mechanics wire
Oil filter wrench (large)
Thermometer advertising a long-gone local auto parts shop (not shown)
Combination square with blade cut to 5"
Gear shift knob.
Battery-type slip joint pliers. "Palmer WELLOCT Tool Corp." Meadville, PA Patent No. 2152563

Here was a Craigslist score from today!!

I saw this toolbox and just had to have it for some odd reason, lol!

img_2424.jpg

img_2425.jpg

Key Included!

img_2426.jpg

Drawers had carpet in them so they were in great shape!
img_2423.jpg

img_2422.jpg

It's stamped 03/70 on the bottom.

I also got these V series large wrench with the deal, 7/8" to 1 1/4" in size, looks to be hardly used and just have toolbox wear!
img_2427.jpg

Also a SK Wayne 1/2" drive speed drive and a 3/8" par-X drive speed drive!
img_2428.jpg

I gave a c-note for it all! Not too shabby I thought!

Oooh that is nice! I have one top/bottom combo just as nice like that that was locked up since the late 70's in a windowless room when the owner died and his widow never touched it. Welcome to the "mint" toolbox club!

I inherited some tools from my late father-in-law. This represents about 1/5 of what was in the basement, and there's more in the garage and a little more at their other property. I only accepted what I can use right now. My mother-in-law wants me to look through the rest of it next time we're visiting. No problem. He inherited lots of tools from his father and father-in-law.

Cool lmk!

WOW, thanks Nochina! The door opening is 11" x 25" so close to those dimensions. Box is 25 x 9.5 and 15.75.

Sorry Nine, I just got home and my Gerstner is the smaller one, came up short on the dimensions. I'll keep an eye out though, always hitting the fleas/ garage sales on the weekends.

What's the story on these clamps?

I came across a few (and they are now in my garage). I don't know what they are for, but they look cool. Seem to have brass heads with locking grooves.

The main difference between Kant Twist and regular C-Clamps, is they apply pressure without any twisting motion imparted to the parts being clamped.

My two 4" KT's have the copper tips, this one was copper plated steel.

The copper can provide two things: a heat sink (good for welding thin stuff, less good for welding heavy stuff) and the spatter or even misplaced weld will not stick.

WOW !!!!!!!

I go up to my camp for a week and when I get back I have 24 pages on the forum to go through to catch up. Then I have to read through 12 pages on this thread alone. It's taken me 3 hours to get this far, and that was just skimming. :wtf:

No sales on my trip, sadly. But all you guys have been killing it while I was gone. Way to go !

Here are photos of some items I didn't include in post #4836 Sunday night. First is the thermometer advertising a local auto parts shop that is long gone. I took my Model A Ford engine to them to have the block bored and bearings poured in 1964. They were located at the point where the name of the street changed from High Street to Broadway in Salem, OR. Their slogan was "Where Broadway shifts into High."

The second photo shows the P&C 7/16 and 11/16 combo wrenches I picked up last weekend. I need a 3/8 and a 15/16 to complete the set.

Outlaw, nice double end Diamond.

Here's some more recent finds. I got shut out at the flea market one day and left empty handled but spotted a roadside sale. It was mostly household junk, then I saw a bin full of tools that I recognized from when these people had a flea market stand. I drooled over the Craftsman Underlined C Bevel once before but didn't want it at $10 that last time. The deeply discounted negotiated now price=$3!

Craftsman T Bevel- $3
H.K.Porter bolt cutter-$2.00
Vlchek bearing scraper- $1.00
Blackhawk- Armstrong wrench- $1.00
Blue Points Chicago Wrench -$1.00

Made my day because rarely do I get a second chance at buying things I passed on the first time.

$10 is too steep but for the discounted price of $3, GOOD SCORE! That is CLEAN for a ~50 year old bevel!

Went to a trade show last weekend, they had a pile from an electronics estate for sale. Mostly during the show, the public was digging through it, pulling out all kinds of stuff. At the end, the folks taking care of selling off the estate didn't want to bring anything home, so the stuff got REAL marked down. I got all this for $10 out the door.

Includes:

Luxo shop light, OD green video camera housing, metal tray, crystal oven of some sort, drafting tools, a set of nice drafting compasses and points, some ceramic insulators of different sorts, a homebrew frequency counter, a Doskocil gun case that has been modded into a power supply holder (lots of good hardware in it for other purposes), a junk suitcase filled with lots of electronic wire and small spare parts, an antique axe head, and lots of other goodies!

hit the thrift shop this afternoon and these were sticking out like a sore thumb. couldnt believe they werent gone.

wizard 1/2 ratchet
plvmb 3/8 breaker bar
looks to be near new quality thorsen usa swivel. swivel is very tight. it may be my new favorite in the drawer.

the anvil on the bar is very long and rough. are these the way they were made back then or is this a home grown fix? adds character either way. fits sockets perfectly, though more suited for a deep well. only my second tool. i have one 3/8 shallow socket. wish i had more. these are cool old tools.

Here is what I found this last weekend

20140809_221137.jpg

The adjustable is by a company named L & S Company in Cleveland, Ohio.

I didn't notice any legible markings on the square as to the manufacturer. Bought those two items and a Hemingray Insulator for $10.

- Update 08/17/2014 - After some work with a wire wheel, I found out that the square is a Stanley. Patent Date 12/29/1896

This is a recent find from Ebay...

20140809_220849.jpg

A General Electric model. Came with alligator clip leads, a case, and manual. Doesn't look like it was used much.

Yeah me too, lots of the right size for my needs. I wish the pulls were at the top of the drawer fronts like my other box but I'll get over it.

It's solid, couple small dings and surface rust around the lower part but no pitting or through holes. The drawers all have liners to so other than liner wear, they are great. The box is 41" wide x 18" deep x 35" high(without casters).

Saw and sander $9
Channellock, gator tool?, and chrome thing (I have no idea what it is called, anyone?) $1
Rusty channellocks $free

Drill chuck keys, carbide burrs, top two appear to be round files (I didn't know they made such a thing) $1

1/2 snap-on u-joint, sockets (sk, williams, proto u-joint), plvmb 1/2 and 3/8 extensions, 2 3/8 sk extensions, sk 1/2 speeder, craftsman 1/4 breaker, and a belzer 3/8 breaker (this thing is sweet, my new favorite, I can't find any info on it though) $5
This stuff came from an estate sale where the guy running it didn't have a clue. He was asking $30 per wrench over 1", $15 per socket over 1" for craftsman rp stuff with some sk thrown in. I had grabbed a 1.5" rp thinking he wanted $0.30 and the big sk stuff. It was like a hot patato whe he explained he wanted $30 for the one wrench.

Today was pick up day from this weeks local farm auction. The collection and estate of decades from one family farm was sold via online auction. There were too many good items that got away from me but I did end up with my truck full inside and out for $171 total. I have not even unloaded or sorted it all yet but I'm loaded now with vintage car wheels (at least 30), metal gas/oil cans, old tools, brand new tools still in the box, wheel covers, power tools old and new, parts, scrap metal, antiques like oil cans and an old blow torch. And I also ended up with 4 vises today out of 8 in the auction I was bidding on. One big guy, 2 pipe vises and a small clamp on vise. I'll sort those out and post on the vise thread.
Here are some pics of the truck loaded down and sagging, front seat and back seat full of stuff.
I will post some of the best of the lot later after sorting.
