Are you new to the board? Tekton rep Dave R is a frequent poster here. I use quite a bit of the stuff, some is quite good but some of the stuff is quite bad. It's better than Harbor freight. Pliers are Wilde made in the USA, Sockets and Ratchets are very nice, Chisel and Punch roll set is super crazy nice. Combo wrenches, tape measurers, not so nice.

The composite ones are but not the normal ones. Tekton ones are way higher quality and made in Taiwan.

It's not better than Harbor Freight. The vast majority of the catalog IS Harbor Freight...just with a different color or some other minor cosmetic differences. They get the stuff from the same factories.

I mean, the whopping two pairs of Wilde pliers they offer are better, but that's about it.

The composite ones are but not the normal ones. Tekton ones are way higher quality and made in Taiwan.

The HF non-composites are made in Taiwan now, too.

The two companies are the same thing, except Tekton charges more.

Here we go again... Have you ever actually physically looked at and touched the tools or used them? The stuff is way better fit and finish than Harbor Freight.

Yes, I have.

And it's the same stuff.

Tekton is nothing but a way to get overpriced Harbor Freight clones.

I'd love for you to show me where I can get some of my Tekton stuff at Harbor Freight because it simply isn't there. HF definitely doesn't sell the same rats.

Actually, it's been posted several times that Tekton specs different steel for many of their tools. They use chrome moly heads for their breaker bars (not chrome vanadium) and I believe the ratchet mechanisms are also chrome moly, not the chrome vanadium HF uses.

So no, their products aren't the same. They look similar and probably do come from the same factory, but the two companies spec different materials for their tools.

Also they have several tools that HF just does not have. The extra long 1/2 and 3/8 drive ratchets, the massive 40in breaker bar (3/4 drive).

They also have very nice air hoses and pliers (both of which are US made).

Their warranty requires no receipt, just. A picture of the broken tool and they mail out a new one to you.

I just got in a pair of 8" Tekton slip joint pliers. I like them. Yeah, they look kinda like HF/other pliers, but slip joints are slip joints are slip joints. They're made by Wilde in the USA, but for what looks like the same warranty they are less expensive. Wilde has a larger selection though.

Tekton ratchets are the same as Harbor freight, just a different color.

Not exactly correct. Some are the same, but not all of them. Tekton offers long handle and flex ratchets that you won't find at HF, for example.

Tekton is nothing but a way to get overpriced Harbor Freight clones.

Again, some stuff is the same, but not all.

I'm not saying Tekton stuff is great. I've looked at some that wasn't impressive. But they have some stuff that looks pretty decent.

Bottom line is, too many blanket statements, not enough engineering.

And the very nice handle and release button?
They still aren't the same.

Their USA pliers are nice. At Meijer they have an 18" 3/8" ratchet that looks good. I haven't bought any tekton stuff but I plan to get a few pair of pliers for home. Got enough pliers at work.

Yes, the new HF ones have a different very nice handle and release button.

Open them up. They're the same damned ratchet. Kobalt, too.
Again, does HF have that ratchet or the 18 inch ratchet?

No?

OK, then. Not the same.

Not sure what you are trying to get at (or if it is even aimed at me)?

Their ratchets have the exact same mechanism in the head. They're all made by Rotar.

Having the same mechanism and being the exact same are different. The new HF ratchets still aren't low profile like the Tekton ones.

Sam & Jakes in Lapeer ? I always forget about that place. How's the current stock ?

Yes, seems to be good. I couldn't spend my usual hour looking around cause the wife and Kids were in the car, but I alway find something I "need".:D
