I'll go first.

The maxjax is rated for 6000lbs capacity which is pretty much right up there with the weight of the Avalanche so I was pretty nervous. Up until now, I've lifted the following with no issues:

2004 Trailblazer
2005 Chrysler 300C
2007 Mazda 3
2010 Pontiac G6
2005 Jetta TDi
2010 Hyundai Sonata

On to what you've been waiting for!

As you can see, I positioned a jack stand under each arm as a backup. I lifted the truck up around a foot off the group, positioned the jacks and then left it for 5 minutes, held only be the hydraulics. I did not use the safety bar that comes with the maxjax.

After 5 minutes, the lift arms hadn't dropped even slightly. I'm very confident in the lifts ability BUT I'll still use my jack stands right under the frame because that's just good common sense.

Any questions, let me know. Show us what you lifted :rocker:

It was struggling.

OP:

Why use jack stands? I noticed you aren't using the steel bars.... the manual specifically states to use them and not keep the vehicles weight on the cylinders... If you use the steel bars there's no need for jack stands, as the weight is no longer being held by the cylinders...

I want one so bad. Ive had two level fusion and if I dont get a lift of some sort my car days are numbered. I just cant stay bent over to work on a car on a partial height lift. I would love to see a guy 6 foot standing next to a car at full lift. Preferably a foxbody Mustang. I know it dont matter though! Anyone?

The heaviest I have lifted is a toyota land cruiser bullet proof level 5 rated at 5600 lbs more or less and YES I used the safety bars

I lifted my stock 1973 K-10 8' bed. It raised it with no problem, but when I went to lower it, the safety bar was a little hard to pull out. It appeared that the column had flexed just enough to do that. After I lowered it, I checked and both columns were back to vertical and solidly fastened to the concrete.

If.you think them.jack stands are going to save you from being crushed you're out of your mind.

Those are what, 3 maybe 4 ton stands? How much inertia is a 6,000 lb truck going to have in a sudden fall from 5' or better? (Hint, a lot more then your stands are going to hold)

And besides, why don't you use the safety latches/bar?

Guys!

Good grief. I lifted the truck with the jack stands under the arms to see if it would lift it and the stands would catch it if it failed. I had NO INTENTION of getting under it without the safety bars attached!

Let me re-phrase this all

1. Lift truck until jack stands can be slid under.
2. Slide jack stands under arms.
3. Let lift hold the vehicle under hydraulic pressure for 10 mins.
4. No drop seen.
5. Install safety bars.
6. Leave jack stands under arms.
7. Get under truck.

this is why i bought a maxjax. tired of laying on the floor!

the only issue my lift experienced was crappy cheap hyd fittings. replaced them with some quality units no more leaks. i also lubricated the inside of the towers with some light grease and they slide much easier
