Contact the seller and ask them if they're still willing to sell it for what they had as the BIN price. A lot of sellers don't realise the BIN can disappear if someone bids, but if they listed one, a lot of the time they'll still be quite willing to let it go for that price. It's less hassle for them, and they know they'll get a guaranteed amount.

It's called "BIN Stomping". If you're interested in the item you place an opening bid to kill the BIN and then hope you're final bid wins the item below the BIN.

In many cases that backfires and the final price exceeds the original BIN.

There are also those that go around "stomping" BIN's just for the fun of it.

I really think Ebay should keep BIN's alive much longer. Maybe up to 75% of the BIN.

If you see an attractive BIN act quickly!!

Fingers crossed for you here too. :) I've only gone that route once or twice, but the sellers have been quite helpful and happy with that option.

I sell on Ebay and every item I list I put a Buy it now price. You wouldn't believe how many folks bid the minimum and the BIN goes away and they end up paying way over the BIN price. Are these people stupid ?? I don't get it.

Bingo, I see this happen too often. Pretty funny though and im sure its a nice surprise for the sellers when they get an extra $50-$100+ than they were originally planning to.

I wouldn't say stupid, more so penny wise, pound foolish. I think that they think they are going to get it for much less than the BIN price. Hoping/thinking that no one else will notice the item, but alas other do and end up bidding it past the original BIN price. I'd imagine these are the same folks that would try to haggle if you were selling a brand new car for $100.

So what you're saying is that the seller isn't honest and between him and yourself, you f@cked the person over that already placed an honest bid. You and the seller are the problem with ebay. What you and the seller did was unethical. I've been screwed over on auction because of people like yourself, even on auctions where that wasn't a BIN. All of a sudden my auction is ended, even when I had already bid on an item.

Good job in screwing an honest bidder over.......

If the other guy wanted it he should of used the...wait for it....BIN. Pretty simple. A min bid is worthless on an auction like that.

I was wondering about that. Isn't there a fee or other mark against the seller if one ends a auction early with a bid and without a legit issue such as item was broken? :dunno:

Wrong. If the BIN goes away, it is fair game for the AUCTION. Not for somebody to go behind or skirt ebay rules, cancel the legit auction and re-list it for someone who was TOO SLOW IN BIDDING to begin with.

Like I said, the bidder who had the auction canceled on them is being screwed over. Plain and simple.

Personal ethics mean very little on eBay. Bad thing or good thing? Depends who you are I suppose.

I have had great luck on e-bay except for snap-on tools, for some reason they fetch silly prices. I have heard that is due to foreign buyers willing to pay the premium.

As a seller,I would not have cancelled my auction and then put it back on as a buy it now for anyone. That's how you get booted off Ebay.My feedback is 1194 @ 100 %. It took awhile to get there and it isn't worth it.

Nah. Cant agree, the BIN offer was more than fair. The 1/2" flex goes for about half what his BIN price was alone. If the guy actually wanted it, he would of used the BIN. Putting in a bid was just an attempt to prevent anyone else from purchasing the set outright, again its not like it would of went for <100. Back in the real world what would of happened is the set would of went for over the BIN price and mr.initial bidder there probably wouldn't of placed another bid except for the min bid he used to dump the BIN option. Ideally the seller would of set a reserve so that wouldn't happen but not everyone is savvy to listing options.

You can end listings for a myriad of reasons unless there are bids and there is less than 24(?) hours left. Fees get refunded.

If former BIN auctions routinely go above the BIN price, sounds like the seller was pretty stupid.

On the other hand, if you are willing to sell an item at the BIN price, just make it a fixed price BIN auction in the first place.

I'd be interested in seeing the $10 packaging and shipping on those ratchets. Hope it doesn't turn into the standard "hole in the package" scenario.

Yeah, it's a real facepalm that a shyster seller cancels a legit bid to sell to someone else.

Bidding had already made to $155 before the auction was cancelled......

Also how long does it take for BIN or completed auctions to show up in the sellers history?

About a day.

Its a face palm that you're so bored that you'd care that much.

Yep, the seller meant to put in a higher price before the BIN gets bumped. Legitimate mistake and he remedied it. Someone here got the sale. Instead of acting normal and saying it was a nice deal you're forming a mob, threatening to report him, and shouting "injustice!".

Some of you take these single ebay listing threads to ridiculous lengths of scrutiny.

Wow never figured this place would turn into this...if you all realized the true scams and shady **** on ebay you wouldn't think anything about this. Sounds more like some people are jealous and wish they would have done the same.

ebay rules have changed. More than one item ended early per calendar year results in charging of a final value fee of the highest bidder at the time you ended the auction. And you don't get the sale either. Money grubbing bastards.

Also BIN stomping is really annoying, but a reserve on lets you keep BIN until reserve is met. I usually like to list items non-reserve to attract more buyers though. Some categories also keep BIN open until the bid is a certain percentage of the BIN price, but obviously doesn't apply to tools.

Less "injustice" and more "douchebaggery", really.

Why is it? Ebay is such a screwed up site with such a god awful interface that just listing stuff can be a test in patience on occasion, coupled with the fact that a lot of sellers genuinely *do not* realise that a BIN price will disappear with the first bid. If someone had asked a seller who had not listed a BIN price to end an auction and they had done so, that's irksome. However, even then, (yes, I've had that happen plenty of times to me with something I've bid upon, where a listing just gets ended), I still don't class it as good reason to get my knickers in a twist. When a seller listed a BIN, however, they were clearly stating they were willing to sell for a set price.

Seriously, bitching about this being unethical is just taking the piss. Some of you really do need to stop being such prissy, big girls blouses. There was an outright statement by the seller that they had a set price they were willing to sell for. That's as simple as it gets.

Exactly. I've gone almost exclusively to Fixed Pricing with my eBay sales, and I like it much better. You get what you want for the item, and it's visible for essentially months. With 7 day auctions you may not attract enough buyers to get a good price on obscure items.

Ebay offers special deals to list as an auction vs set price. I put buy it now so I don't have to a reserve on it. I sell at reasonable prices with shipping at cost. It works out well for me.

I agree 100%. The other beauty of fixed price BIN's is that wonderful box you check that say's "immediate payment required"!!

I swear >50% of auction style listings end up with non paying bidders.

Ebay should have a valid credit card on file for all registered users and charge a $25 or 10% (whichever is higher) penalty fee for unpaid items.

If your BIN is too high you can always gradually reduce the price until you get the sale. (like an auction in reverse but you get lots more time to attract buyers).

I BIN stomp all the time. If I get the item...great, if not I really wasn't going to pay fair market value for it anyway. Sometimes it works and I get something for pennies on the dollar, 99% of the the time it goes to somebody else. It's no loss to me since I really didn't care if I won anyway.

This Snap On listing is the perfect example. If I won those ratchets I'd have have happily paid $20 for them, but any more than that...not so much. No harm no foul.
