Craftsman Pro vise back again

Craftsman's Wilton bullet-like vise looks to back in stock!

It's been out of stock since last December. Lot of people have asked me about it, Craftsman reps never gave me a clear answer as to what's going on, but latest word was that it's discontinued.

Craftsman.com still says it's no longer available.

Price is currently $107 with free shipping. I'm hoping that this is a new production run and not NOS, but no way to know.

There are a couple Ebay sellers that have multiples of these listed for $200+. I assumed Sears dumped their existing stock.

Sears will probably put it in a big box with no packing around it. It will bust out and UPS will deliver another empty box.

I picked up this vise about a month ago when sears' local ad was all jacked up and allowed you to view the product in a completely different regions page, but add it to your cart for local pickup. Scored it for just about $50 with some coupon codes and about $10 in sywr money - not bad!

Mine was indeed the newer "more boxy" style compared to the older production run where the rear anvil portion of the vise was rounded slightly in comparison.

Posts #72 & #76 show the back being squared off, whereas the sears page shows the back top anvil area being rounded. It is such a minor difference, everything else seems the same.

Are you sure? I always thought these were equivalent to the Wilton import model.

Same for me. I got a couple of them from that sale and both are the same style.

I own the more boxy style. IMHO it looks like it would be stronger than the early version due to more "meat" surrounding the anvile area. My local OSH has had both styles in stock for months and I was able to closely compare the two side by side. Also, though I don't need another one, out of curiousity I always check the stock on hand everytime I'm in any of my local Sears stores. They've always been in stock. It seems to be only Sears.com that's been out of stock.

My local Sears Hardware has exactly one of these in stock. Been sitting there for a good long while, lots of dust on top... I think it's priced at $120 or $125...

You don't know how true that is, I got a brand new 450S from Wilton through Snap-On, the wait was 3-4 months, and it came loose in the box. The decals were bent and unusable, but the vise was ok.

Hey, I'm quoting myself! So now I am in the Sears.com limbo- no shipping info, I've received several different emails telling me varying amounts of syw points that I've earned from this purchase. Now I remember promising myself years ago never to even go on sears.com again, and certainly never to order from them online. I hope this vise comes through!

Update-
Received the vise despite poor communication from Sears. Was delivered in good condition and in a reasonable amount of time.
Finally had the time to unbox and go through the setup in the "unofficial" thread by dlleno. Honestly, there were not many chips inside. But the "lube" that they used looked like black water. It was very thin and wiped right off. So although I didn't have to remove many chips, I'm glad I took it apart and was able to grease it up properly.
After reassembling and opening and closing a few times, it really spins like a top. No slop in the mechanism. Looking forward to using this monster!
