I've got a 3/8 ir 2115 that was given to me because its missing the forward button. I would like to take this apart and fix it but dont have any torx bits.

Does anyone know what torx bit it takes? Also any disassembly instructions would be great. I have never disassembled an impact before.

I would recommend getting a set of torx drivers first off, the screwdriver type not the bit style. Then look up the button in a schematic and order it :). Maybe grease and oil as well, do a full cleaning on it.

assuming that the mechanism is not damaged, you don't need to take it apart to add either of the two buttons, plenty schematics on the web

Download a parts manual from ingersollrand products.com and see if that provides insight into how the tool is disassembled.

Yes they slide in.Just push both buttons a couple times and your good.

not really that simple. you need to make sure the valve assy that the buttons go into is centered and stays centered when the buttons go in, otherwise you will block off most of the airflow for either forward or reverse. the gun will be strong in one direction and have no power in the other.

Okay so I was able to take the gun apart with aT15 that I found laying around. I noticed the valve assembly was moving when trying to remove the other button. There's a notch in it, should it be parallel or perpendicular to the gun?

I should add that the gun was nice and greasy on the inside. I dont have an air compressor yet, but im saving for one. Should I still be oiling the gun everyday?

Oiling the gun will do it no good with air not pushing it through. The oil helps lubricate as well as prevent rust.

You do it your way and I will do it my way

You need to make sure that the valve is time correctly with the buttons if you get new buttons and you insert the new button with the existing button fully engaged the timing should be correct. If you have any issues PM me and I will help you out.
