Stacked block, no re-bar, not poured solid, no tie beams, no columns, not even in the corners. Junk.
Lemme guess. Pine trusses and chip board ?
Everyone wonders why everything blows apart when a storm hit's the middle.
Lowest grade residential construction on the planet.

Block w tie beam and columns, steel trusses, v-crimp roof and 140MPH Miami windows, they'da never left home.

Well almost 5 months to day the of notifying them of the problem, they are here starting the construction repairs. Thanks for all the positive comments. Hate to keep you hanging. Can't post pics until this is done and to my satisfaction (you know why).

When done and I agree it was done to satisfaction, I will post up pics of repairs. Yes, I'm taking tons of pics again.

Investing in a some type of video camera to record this repair might be a wise decision.

Tempest, my hat off to you for taking the high road, keeping your calm (as best as you could). It never ceases to amaze me how pictures always turn out to be your best friend! I can't imagine how gut wrenching this must be, but thank you for keeping us up to date and hopefully it turns out positive w/o needing the legal system! Hang in there!

Glad it's getting fixed. And after reading the whole thread I am anxiously waiting the fix pictures.

I still find it very unusual that block is used for basements and walls like this in the states (and maybe around here, but I never see it).

It works fine when done properly.

Tempest,

Really feel bad for you. For all of us that have had a shop built, I think we all sweated the foundation issues the most.

You have had a ton of advice. I hope you are also getting advice from professionals YOU hire that are agreeing with the GC. YOU have to protect YOUR interests.

Looking forward to hearing about a positive outcome.

I play with photography a little and by no means any expert. Just a hobby. I have heard that Jpegs may not stand up in court because they can be manipulated. Might be in your interest to buy a camera that will capture the RAW data to back up your developed images. Like I said I am no expert in this but you may want to ask your lawyer about this.

I read all of this and I hope the out come will be positive for you. Subscribing.

It would be a pretty good lawyer trick to discredit those photos when the structure is clearly failing after a few weeks/months. I'm not sure about the RAW file type being much better. It has more image data since it doesn't have compression coming off the sensor like a JPG is - but it's still a digital photo made up of pixels that can be manipulated. If you could argue that a JPG was manipulated, you could still argue that a RAW image was manipulated (it's just a little more difficult to do without being detectable).

A moving video would be even more difficult to doctor - but, at this level, I'm not sure anyone could make the "doctored photo" argument.

I think your right at this point it may not matter but it can't hurt to ask. I've heard people talk about this that is why I suggested he ask his lawyer. Did a little research and found this artical. I guess it mostly has to do with authentication of the metadata. Here is the artical I read:

The doctored photo thing is kinda funny. This isn't who shot JFK or an alien sighting. Pictures, and maybe documentation by an official is enough for such a small dollar amount case.

It appears have you surpassed your bandwidth. I thin kit might be for the month, so they should show back up after next week. The other option you have is to upgrade to a Pro account. I did this awhile back and it costs (IIRC) $40 for two years but I have a ton of pics on PB about 1600-1700.

Tempest whatever you do, do not delete pics from photobucket. I made that mistake and it will not help.

There's just a lot of people looking at your pics and it will all come back in a few weeks or a month like nuttsgt said.

That's the point, "I did not delete" my pictures!

But does the contractor know that you have them hosted on PB ? If they do, they may have somebody make enough hits on them that it exceeds the bandwidth and blocks them out.

Are you able to see them when you bring up your PB account ?

With the amount of views this thread has I don't think it has anything to do with the contractor.

Nothing to report yet, once again at a stand still. They asked me to remove stuff to bust out the slab and it's been a week with no activity. Have been documenting with more pictures and will load them all up to my website.

I feel bad for you... its not right, but unfortunately people have substandard work ethics. I'm in the same boat as you right now, the only thing is mine isn't totally finished. My soil is good, but I'm not sure he compacted the soil good enough. He used a bobcat and layered it well, but I'm going to get a compact test done on it. Unfortunately I waited until it was nearly framed. Its sitting on 2.5 feet of fill. It may turn out to be okay, but better safe than sorry. I'll find someone to push it all out and redo if I need to.

I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Once this gets done and they are out of my life I will post what's been done.

Moving forward, I know I need to wait approx 2 months for epoxy. What are some of the better options?

As a former county inspector, I was not legally permitted to do design or to alter a stamped plan or specs. My job was to ensure that it was built to the design and that it did not violate the code. I often had questions about designs and referred them to the designer for an explanation. When something did not go according the the design, I had the authority to stop construction until the design professional signed off on the changes or submitted a new design.

Ya know, Tempest, by the time this is all over, you will likely be nominated for GJ Sainthood... :D

Why the delay for the Epoxy? Ordering backlog, or ?? Curing shouldn't take 2 months - we have contractors that do outdoor bridge deck resurfacing with a 2 part mix, they set it in the AM and by mid afternoon people are driving at 60+ over it. You can go those cool interlocking tiles (most people go black & white checkerboard, tho I like the battleship gray ones personally) and they last pretty well... tho I am a nut for the epoxy floor for maintenance and cleaning... however... a word to the wise... MAKE SURE it has some "grit" on the top of it; that stuff can be slippery as gorilla snot in a banana oil plant if something gets spilled on it.

Damn, this is the second epic fail that I have seen on this forum. Remember that guy that the wall blew out right after they filled it. Now this. I can't believe these guys don't see a problem filling such skinny walls with so much dirt. That is a lot of faith in some block and rebar.

Tempest, you are so calm, you drive me nuts, lol. When I saw this, I actually burst out some profanities and skipped to last page for an update. Glad they are working on this.

Basically subscribed for updates, and to see how they fixed it. Also curious if that foundation cracked.

Fresh concrete keeps drying/losing water for a long time (supposedly the Hoover dam is still curing).

If you put epoxy on too soon the moisture will fail it.

I'm in no hurry (I've already waited a year) so I might as well make sure it's cured.

Looking for suggestions. I've used Rust Oleum water based in my other garage and want something more durable.
