I am looking an a used Hypertherm plasma cutter model 1250. Some one has stolen the cables off it. Does any one have a vague idea what the complete torch assy would cost. All the dealers are closed today and I got to make a decision soon. I am sure the ground cable would not be that much but what about the torch with the lead? I can get the plasma for around $500 but no cables. I think it takes a T80 cable.

All the dealers are closed today? Nonsense. Online research shows this unit to be rather expensive new in the 3-4000 range. Torches seem to be a few hundred from what I can see. YMMV.

I tried to find set a of cables on E-bay to have a figure to work with in cost. I cant call any dealers today as it is Sun. I did find a new set for around $700. Like you said, I seen this same plasma cutter on e-bay advertised for $3,000 and new for $3599. The guy had offered to me for $450. He has owned it for 3 years and it looks to be in good shape. I called my son who owns a fabrication shop, he uses Miller welders and could not give me a answer as to what cables would cost. But he said we knew how to get ahold of a distributor of welding supplies and he would call him. He just called me back after talking to him. He said the deal was too good to be true. He said get the serial # and he would call him back because Hypertherm had a cash for clunkers deal or by back or something like that and on certain Serial #'s you can't get any repair if needed. Does any one have any knowledge of this. I am going to try and get ahold of the owner again and see if he will give me the serial #. Wonder what would be the chance of ever finding used cables?

Just found a torch cable on e-bay for $475, also found a Hypertherm 1250 complete unit for $850. So don't know if would be a good deal to buy the one I am looking at or not. If I could find a set of cables for around $200 or $300 it would be a good deal I guess but if I have $1000 in it, might not be so good.

Chances of finding a used torch might be good if the units are 'junk'. The thing is do you really need this or are you simply getting it because the deal sounds good? You need a 60 amp circuit to run it.

500 is a pretty dang good deal. Id buy it in a heartbeat and sit on it until something pops up on ebay or craigslist. But for me Id just buy a mechanized torch for it and leave it on my cnc and use the one I got as my hand held unit.

I could use it but I really don't need one quite that big. I purchased one of the China made ones (I know you guys are saying I told you so) it was $400. I needed to do quite a bit of cutting on a tanker truck and I didn't want to use my torch. I used it pretty heavy for about 2 weeks and it did a nice job. Has been sitting for awhile, went to use it the other day and heard a loud crack in the box then blew my circuit braker. Called the co. I got it from and they said mail it back and they would fix or replace it. Freight both ways around $50. I figured for $450 I would just bite the bullet and do what every one said in the first place (some of are slow learners) get a Hypertherm.

If I was getting a new torch I would make sure I was buying there new duramax torch. Tips last a lot longer. Last one I bought for our hypertherm 1000 was $600

There's no such thing as a to big of plasma cutter just like a welder, and its the cadilac/snapon of all plasma cutters. For that price it is a steal. The only thing is if your using it on a CNC machine its a little bit involved to get it to run with the software but doable. For just hand cutting its perfect

You can always contact me via PM seven days a week....I am happy to answer Hypertherm related questions. A used Powermax1250 (80 amp, 3/4" production1-1/2 severance rated) with a hand torch in running condition is typically worth between $1800 and $2400. If they are for sale in that range they typically sell pretty quickly. It is a gamble to buy any piece of equipment like this without being able to test it.....so I too would be leery, however I personally would take a chance and buy it for $500. If it needed repairs it is worth repairing at that price. A new Duramax hand torch (which is the same torch used on the newer Powermax units and breathes new life (longer consumable life, better cut quality) into the 1250) sells for less than $400 with a 25' lead. The 1250 has been out of production for about 3-1/2 years, but all parts are available....and will be for a number of years.

Go for it and buy the new Duramax torch as long as it doesn't look damaged. The torch is very simple to replace.
