3/4" Socket Holder Ideas?

I have a( 13/16" - 2" )3/4 drive socket set I have put together from about 7 different brands. I want to store them somewhat organized. Any ideas from what you guys have seen or done.

From my understanding Snappy makes 3/4 clips for their rails

My 3/4" sockets take up so much room I just put them where they fit.

I store them loose standing on the drive end. They are big/heavy enough that they don't slide around on the drawer liner.

I store them in the drawer in one of those older red Craftsman socket trays with the center handle that came in the standard toolbox that you would lift out. You couldn't possibly lift it out of the drawer with all those 3/4 dr sockets in there but at least they have a "place' and I can tell if one's missing.

I have some 3/4 rail clips I can make you a deal on of you want

you could also just get a piece of wood/plywood/plastic/metal that you cut the correct size holes in and then set the sockets in the holes

I am contemplating the same issue. My two ideas are one take flat stock and weld 3/4" dowels spaced apart or second bend sheet metal into trays like the Mac impact sockets used to come in. Right now they are either in blow molded cases they came in or loose standing on the drive end.

I put my set together one used socket at a time from all different brands. That was the cheapest way I found to put a set together. I have some doubles that I'd sell off and an extra ratchet if you're interested in going that way.

I got the Cman sets, but have been adding to them the same way. Seems that no one is interested in single 3/4" stuff....

Got any larger than 1 3/4" and 38mm? How about the ratchet?

I've picked up some Proto impacts for about $5 a socket. They can be cheap, but they have super thick side walls, so in limited space applications they won't fit.

This is what I decided to go with. A low budget project but it should do. I have some holes to fill but that is OK with me.

middle row 6 point
bottom torque wrench and adapters, ect.

That's a pretty nice shelf. Only thing I might have done different is to put a sheet of 1/4" plywood on the back in order to keep them from falling threw.

I just stand mine up in a drawer, they don't move. I use to keep them in a plain tool box when I had them in the service truck. If I ever bring them home, I would hang them on the peg board to free up space in the box, a complete set takes up a lot of drawer space.

From what I've seen Proto is a brand that is consistently available for cheap. Not a bad choice at all, rather good quality.

I have a Craftsman set from my father (25 pc or so) but if I was buying new today I'd probably go Proto or Wright.

I have all Grey Pneumatics for my 3/4 sockets. They are very reasonably priced and never had to warranty anything over the past 6 or so years I have had them.

I have pieced my 3/4 drive set together for a number of years. I don't think I paid over $ 5.00 a socket. No Imported stuff,mostly SO , Proto and Wright. And a few Craftsman. I lucked out at an estate sale and found a red metal box from a cheap 3/4 set.It works.

I like the ideas, mine are just scattered and I may end up setting up a wall rack for them.

For those interested in buying sockets, if COO is not an issue, 3/4" and 1" drive import sockets are perfectly fine. I have used and abused China made sockets for years. I also have USA made proto sockets to 3 1/2", they are nice, but not needed.

If I needed a set now, I would buy HF without giving it a second thought. Williams also makes some decent import socket sets that are reasonably priced.

One thing I will say, buy a decent ratchet, the import ones **** and not in a good way.

Craftsman actually has a reasonably priced 3/4" drive ratchet that I have used a lot.

Buying good quality used USA made is a great way to go, it just takes some patience.

I started buying them individually after watching for used sets for too long. Then I bought a 1/2 set of older S-O and not long after got a full set of Gedore for a great price. It's one of those things that you see at real good prices over a period of time, it's just being able to wait till the right deal comes along.

I keep them in the bottom drawer of a spare box in my shop. I had planned to find a tin box for the set I was building so it would be convenient to take them in the field. My Gedores came in a fitted box which serves that purpose. Now the bottom drawer is full of 3/4 which are used more for pressing bearings, bushings and seals than their intended use since my real truck is 500 miles away.

I have all Wright 3/4 drive sockets, some impact, some chrome, impacted the hell the out of them even the chrome with a 1inch impact with no failure.

I picked this up at a sale for $2 cleaned and painted it. Works perfect for my CM 3/4 set. Honestly before I got this they sat in a drawer and didn't get used that often so in a box on the shelf is perfect for them.

At work I've got some Armstrong 3/4 clips and rails attached to a 2x6. The clips and rails came with a new metric set I bought. I've got a part# somewhere for the clips.

Those are the 1st flankard mugs that didn't have the plastic coating inside. I have the newer type with the plastic inside and they fail as well for everyday use. The plastic screws up fast in them. One day when I have nothing to do I'm going to turn them down on the inside so they are round at the bottom where it's hard to clean (I'll keep the hex on the top portion) and have them chromed or something inside.

I had a stainless steel cup at one time that I loved. You could keep it on the rocks beside a campfire or on top of a wood stove or heater and your coffee stayed hot for a long time. It held about 16 oz. I thought these flankard cups would be similar but the alloy corrodes and the plastic coating on the new ones cracks and peels. Snap-on should make them out of stainless, then they'd have something.

Littletoes, heres a shot with the handles showing. I have both types (plastic and plain) and neither are good for actual continued use as the alloy corrodes and they are hard to clean inside because they have a 2 1/4" square imprint in the bottom. If the bottom was smooth and round inside with just the hex broached type top section they would be a lot better but the alloy corrosion is the real killer that causes them to fail as functional mugs. Too bad, I was really hoping they would replace my old stainless mug that I lost. I haven't given up yet though. I'm going to round out the inside and ceramic coat the inside or something one day.
