Hey Guys!!! New to the page. I discovered this Blackhawk tool box, while preparing for an estate sale that starts next week. It also has all the original BlackHawk sockets, as well as a few wrenches.
Any help with a price would be great!
It will also be for sale, starting the 25th.

Pics soon. Hit an estate sale. Craftsman 10" '40s table saw (with a very hard to find blade guard), Dunlap 18" 1940s scroll saw - both with motors, a Starrett feeler guage No 467, a couple of 1940s Shakespeare fishing reels, a 1973 copy of Machinery's Handbook, an 8" plane, a handful of Plomb wrenches, a pile of McGuire's car waxes etc which were free for $90.

Today was the annual community garage sale in my hometown. Left the kids with my parents and hit the sales with the wife.

Biggest score of the day is this Craftsman bandsaw. $15

OK, A good day and got better when I got past the empty Garage at an estate sale. More on this later.

But I'll start with some freebies I got last night:

two silver rings, and a pewter wolf head medallion. Th eon with the Chinese character is heavily worn on one side, so I suspect its was a pinky ring. (it is on me..) I doubt it was made in China or Taiwan however as inside the band is a _28 (Also worn...)

The other one is also silver, and braided and the ends soldered. it's much larger and fits my index finger.

attachment.php

Early finds at several yard sales:

A flex goose neck (Mic?) and a SO 1/4" drive magnetic impact socket -$1

TI-82 Graphing Calculator - $3

SO 3/8 drive deep and a long pattern Bonney, $1

attachment.php

$5 for this set of parts trays. first one I've seen with ball bearing slides. When moving it around, more trouble that they are worth! :willy_nil

attachment.php

Then I got to the Estate sale. the garage as mentioned was practically empty. I found a fly box and a multi tool knife, then went inside the house, someone was talking about a tiller out back and I went on back smelling tools. Quite a few out on tables and in boxes, and I started gathering sockets and wrenches, and a few ratchets, cherry picking. One of the "helpers" saw me picking tools and brought over a Thorsen tool tray box with a 3/8 set in it, looking mostly complete!

I eventually got inside a 10 X 10 Arrow metal shed. What a mess! but lots more tools. It had leaked so some rust and lots of water damage to other things, (One carry box had almost 2 inches of water in it. We are in drought, so that was there a LONG time!

I spent almost 45 minutes picking and piling. (Someone snagged one large 3/4" drive socket from that pile...

I finally asked for what they wanted for a bulk buy. the "lead" came over and looked lost, and hemmed and hawed and finally asked what I thought it was worth. I thought a few seconds and offered $25. he took it after a moment’s thought!

This is the tub of stuff I got. I'll get more detailed pics later.

attachment.php

I then went inside and got a couple of old bows, a long bar clamp, and a double handful of odds and ends.

the lady at the from counter wanted $25, and I said if she threw in a Marantz receiver I'd seen in another room for that price, I'd do it. She instantly agreed! :D

The odds and ends; Proto Pliers and 4" adjustable, gold plated screwdriver for glasses, small CL NN pliers, Small Klein diags, A Mexican $20 piece, I think the other is Greek :dunno: Keychain and "Viceroy" cigarette fob that is also a pair of nail clippers, another key fob/ring with clippers and knife, t diamond nail files, a General 12" steel scale, new acid brushes, old school hair scissors, and a wind up travel alarm clock, and A Round Tuit”

attachment.php

The bows and Jorgensen clamp; one wood long bow, and one wood/fiberglass recurve 40 pounder:

attachment.php

And the Marantz. Not the top of the line version but these silver face units sell well. (Or will once I clean the tobacco stains off the controls and control areas... :eyecrazy: Crazy that someone smokes so much there fingers leave tar stains...)

attachment.php

Lots more to come!

The estate sale continued:

You saw the spray chemicals in the tub, so I won’t repeat those.

A cool old school triangular fractional drill index (I've see a couple of these you guys have scored, this one fell to me! :D) – Mix and match so I hesitate to call it a set but only three shy of all of them.

attachment.php

Fly box and flys/spinners, and a partial set of leather tooling punches.

attachment.php

Thorsen “Mechanics” tray/box for a 3/8’s set of sockets and ratchets. Missing 2 std sockets and the 13/16 deep, but I may have those. The other siting on the lid were either in this box mixed, or loose in other boxes, and include SO (upper right) P&C Proto, Bonney, Cornwell, and others, as well as that 4” Crescent and wizard extension.

attachment.php

I also found this Thorsen “Lawnmower” tray box. Missing the ratchet, (I do have one of those), one extension, (might have) and a socket (Might have)

attachment.php

(Mostly) Thosrsen DBE and tow long pattern combos, a Plvmb is in there as well as a Barcalo and a no name that came out of the 3/8 socket box.

attachment.php

B&B WorkMate bench crimps, these get a special insert for the workmate hols and then jam in there and pinch down on the piece being clamped. Also a B&D router fence.

attachment.php

Odds and ends: A Triumph drill index missing one (broken) otherwise all NOS, Plvmb socket, and Williams driver, Old school (thick) Crescent, 24T hacksaw blades, Hammer handle, That knife from a fishing box in the garage, more Plvmb sockets, a specialty wrench (Air? Marked Crystal Pure…”) and anyone recognize the head up front, and what it is for?

More after dinner!

Cool... I have the same set. It was my dad's and it looks like he paid $9.99 for it new. There are some other various pieces in there so I have no idea what it originally consisted of.

Nice Thorsen sets!! I really like these older exposed gear Thorsen ratchets. They're just so small in the head that they can reach into tight spots that other ratchets can't even dream of getting into.

It's my understanding they were originally designed for the aircraft industry. Old Thorsen doesn't get enough credit here IMHO.

I have that exact knife except it was carried in Vietnam by my uncle instead of Desert Storm. Looks like it has not changed much over the years.

The estate sale continued, part 3:

This Plano box surfaced in the shed (covered with a layer of gross crud..)

attachment.php

An after opening I decided it went on my pile for SWMBO. There is nearly an inch of the faux pearls on the bottom… a sort job for the girls…

attachment.php

The Stanley Bailey may be beyond saving bur it had parts, so I took it. The red box is a semi complete 1.4” drive set of Stevens –Walden sockets and drivers except the ratchet is a Husky. A Wright extension and a Bonney Te handle both at rusty tired, so may be used as parts for something.

attachment.php

Craftsman Ratchets and Breaker, Stevens Walden Ratchets; Both 3/8, one long one short. And a pair of Krauter Pliers. The two big sockets are OTC ¾” drive and are for a fort ****** output shaft nut and the seal installation tool.

Good score on the eggbeater! I've got a couple of them. Here is a good link for tuning it up... http://www.wkfinetools.com/trestore/boringTools/tuningEggbeater/restEB1.asp

Thanks for the link. I have already taken it down but still need to figure out how to get the main gear off. Usually they just lift off but there is a roller guide that is holding me up. Once i get that figured out, ill get it all cleaned up, oiled, polishing and ready to sell.

I stopped buying these drills long ago but for some reason i bought this one at todays sale. I guess it looked too nice and an easy garage project for me to mess with.

Ill try to remember to take a picture once its all finished so everybody can see it.

Here is my find today. I only looked at one garage sale today. My wife usually scopes them out while I stay in the car with the kids. I was able to get all of this and a pirate book for my son for $15

20140920_162454.jpg

This Kennedy box looked close to new. I couldn't pass it up. Asking price $7.00
20140920_162515.jpg

These are Channel locks 410 & 420. I already have a newer 420, but didn't have the 410. Asking price of $1 each. Oh yeah, a Johnson square ($1.50)
20140920_162523.jpg

Two wooden handled screwdrivers: One is a Stanley, the other I can't read the stamping very well. Again, good deal being marked at 25¢ each.

Wiss 11 snips. Another good asking price of $3.

20140920_162545.jpg

A 50 foot Lufkin steel tape ($3.50 asking price) and "Bell System" Klein Diagonals ($1).

20140920_162536.jpg

I'm quite happy with this find on a Saturday around 3pm.

Last of it! (Part 4)

These Duro Ignition wrenches were in that carry box with water in it, submerged. They cleaned up mostly pretty good, but need a bit more work for the last of the rust. The bag is not in half bad shape.

attachment.php

I saw this Dunlap carry box, and was surprised when I opened it;

attachment.php

as it has the original ¼” drill in it! Along with a bunch of other stuff I have not looked at closer yet.

attachment.php

And the last of the Estate sale loot:

A Crescent Tools Nail puller, and a Starrett 12” Machinest’s level. The puller is interesting it has a little blade next to the claw my other pullers don’t have I think it’s either for digging bent, buried nails out, or for splitting pieces of wood usingf te puller as a slide hammer. The Starrett was like; I saw it sitting half hidden, and glommed onto it as soon as I did spot it, and added it to my pile. Only after I got home did I discover that the vial was cracked and empty. I’ll contact Starrett and see if replacement vials are available. If not, I have an option: I have another 12” Starrett level. Its vial is good but the rest of its condition, especially the bottom is iffy. I was planning on lapping it and seeing if I could get it into decent shape, but one way or another I’ll have a good level, maybe two!

attachment.php

After the estate sale I made one more stop that produced:
Crescent (Lots of Crescent today!), Fence Pliers, A Mercedes Benz DOE, and some drawer pulls for SWMBO.

I think those were used in both Korea and WWII by pilots, and yes, not much change, and no reason to. I think there were a couple of models with serrated and non serrated backs IIR.

My dad still has my grandfather's that he carried while serving with the Army Air Corps in the Pacific during WW2, unfortunately after the war Granddad used it for digging, prying, scraping, etc and it's worn down to a nub. I still hope to inherit it someday.

That's a nice find Thundermug and it's even better since you know the story of the knife but does anybody else find it odd that somebody would sell the knife they took to war with them at a garage sale? I guess some people (including my grandfather) aren't sentimental about stuff like that. :dunno:

Drove 40 mins to an estste sale out in Hartland that had some Snap-on toolboxes in the pics. I was able to scope out the tools laid out on the table while the guy was lining everyone up by the sign-in sheet. Managed to snake all these in the bag in the first few minutes.

Lol, that is absolutely true! It even happens on an individual level. Notice the Craftsman drill index I posted above. Never seen one before, saw two this weekend, at two different sales. (First one was priced too high)

Outlaw,
Yes, vials are readily available on Ebay and at the industrial suppliers. They're actually held in place with plaster. Replacement isn't too hard. Just don't loose those tiny little springs that apply tension to the vial covers.

You'll also need a little piece of yellow or white paper to make a new background.

I had to do the same replacement a while back.

Looks like you hit the jackpot this weekend. Great finds. I'm curious as to how you cleaned up those Duro Ignition wrenches?

I wondered the same thing about why someone would sell the knife they took to war with them. Who knows, could be a myriad of reasons.
Maybe it has memories associated with it the seller would rather soon forget? (or not think about)

Nice haul Outlaw. I passed on that same Starrett level that looked like new (w/box) about a year ago at a Flea market. Still kicking myself over that one.
That's a cool parts tray, especially at that price.

Some great scores, guys! Thundermug and Outlaw got some major hauls there (envy).

I hit an estate sale yesterday that my father-in-law clued me to (he brought home a complete oxy-acetylene setup with tanks, cart and Victor gear for cheap). I went and checked it out and brought home this.

Only 1 Flea Market today due to time. Here's my $7 haul.

Stearns 3" c-clamp
Proto (LA) #808 8" stillson style pipe wrench
Utica #754-4 4" angle cutters (frozen up but still has the spring)
Craftsman #1 Robertson Driver (x) WF
Craftsman #2 Robertson Driver (x) WF

In the 80's we used to call square drive screws "Canadian Screws" because the only time we saw them was on the yard swings (gliders) my Uncle was importing from QP. I still have problems referring to them as "Robertson's". I remember having to go up to St. George to buy a bit so that I could do some repairs because I couldn't find one on the US side of the border. I had to be careful not to ruin the screws because I had to re-use them, they weren't available locally.

That's a pretty sweet cart Lowbuck, looks pretty sturdy. How thick is the top of it?

Here's my most interesting find of the weekend:

Ten inch Ridgid pipe wrench for size comparison. I have yet to fire it up and see if it works, I'm a little scared of it.

I saw this Troy Bilt Horse and the tag said make offer. I asked the owner what he had in mind and he said $20. (no typo!!) It has all the special attachments and the 8 HP engine. He said engine is in great shape and all it needs is tires. It's dirty but doesn't look like it's had much use.

Are you kidding? That is the BEST small plot tiller that was ever made! I'd take that off your hands if we were closer and available. One thing you will need to check is the transmission to make sure it stays in gear. Nice find Dave.

I wondered the same thing about why someone would sell the knife they took to war with them. Who knows, could be a myriad of reasons.
Maybe it has memories associated with it the seller would rather soon forget? (or not think about)

That's a good point, not having been to war myself I guess I shouldn't speculate on how I'd feel. Other than that knife the few things my grandfather brought back from the war were packed away and didn't see the light of day until he died a few years ago.

A year ago I got some stuff from this guy including a snap-on ratcheting screwdrive for $5. Every other time I've stopped back there it's been a bust, so when I saw his sign out on Thursday I ignored it, and ignored it on Friday, and finally caved on Saturday and stopped. Saw an empty Waterloo triple toolbox stack and I was told they sold all of the hand tools on Thursday and Friday. So for $32, I ended up with a lonely Plvmb DOE wrench, a fleet ratchet, two fleet sockets, and the 1/3 block grinder.

The estate sale continued, part 3:

Craftsman Ratchets and Breaker, Stevens Walden Ratchets; Both 3/8, one long one short. And a pair of Krauter Pliers. The two big sockets are OTC ¾” drive and are for a fort ****** output shaft nut and the seal installation tool.

I think the trans output shaft sockets are actually chrysler ball joint sockets, or maybe they fit both. I have a plymouth they fit and they work well! Any body else know?

Some great scores, guys! Thundermug and Outlaw got some major hauls there (envy).

I hit an estate sale yesterday that my father-in-law clued me to (he brought home a complete oxy-acetylene setup with tanks, cart and Victor gear for cheap). I went and checked it out and brought home this.

Let me be the first to say you **** for the awesome plvmb tool mobile! I hate you so bad and admire you so much in one sentence  I would probably imagine you got it for a suckage price of $25 or something majorly suckage like that.:rocker:

Good find Gregg!

We hit 3 planned sales this morning along with 4 non planned on the way home and nothing to show. Then I just got back from a local farm/lumber auction where I registered but didn't bid on anything. They had a couple small anvils and antique fans that went outrageous $$ and I was only interested in a few things personally so with prices high and no opportunity to make any profit, I left early. Strike 8....today, may try for 10....

I think I previewed that sale last Thursday down in Greenwell Springs?

hit up a small town village wide yard sales yesterday, very nice weather but after 4 hours of braving the crowds and sidestepping all the piles of horse **** the Amish left everywhere, I hadn't bought one single thing.

I was about to give up when I spotted a house down a small private drive that had a bunch of tools sitting out. Turns out this was a yard sale to liquidate the remnants of a tag sale the week before. Most of the stuff left was junk but as always managed to dig out a few goodies.

-Starrett #243 firm joint hermaphrodite caliper
-old looking Craftsman 1/2 breaker bar with 11/16 socket. Both are marked with a U in a circle and have no part numbers
-General 6" stainless steel rule
-Pexto #50 pruning shears (not my pic, I already gave them to my mom, an avid gardener)

and finally a Craftsman 1/2 HP block grinder 397.19340 on stand

Grand total: $20:rocker:

The ****** and the belt drive are the only areas that have ever given me trouble but they ARE hands down the best tiller for a kitchen garden.

I use my as often as possible and have fond memories of grandpa tilling his big garden with his in the spring. They were made to last, quite versatile and any easy fix required about 3 tools to complete.
