unit heater conversion- NG to LP

I have a 30,000 BTU Dayton unit heater that I want to convert from NG to LP

Grainger has a kit to do it for 120.00

wondering if I could braze the 2 removable orifices and simply re- drill to the correct number drill size

Will I also have to do something to the gas valve as well

Yea I know....just buy the kit!!!

120.00 seems $$$ for 2 orfices

I'd wait for one of the HVAC guys to chime in. I know or think the regulator is different, they two gases work at different pressures. The orifice shouldn't be a big deal to change I wouldn't think. If there's an HVAC supply house near by, I'd ask there.

Actually I just converted my Maxx heater last fall from NG to LP. The kit was less than $50 and it had new orifices, a replacement spring for the regulator and replacement stickers for the heater.

New orifices and a regulator mod are usually all that's needed, however there could be some proprietary part that allows them to charge so much.
Did you try sourcing it elsewhere?

Yes, you need to change the pilot burner orifice if you want it to light properly.

You really should use the kit, if you can figure out who made the unit for grainger you can probably find the kit much cheaper.

Got a model number for your heater? About how old is it?

Any gas tech worth his salt should be able to convert this with $20 worth of parts. I do this on a regular basis.
