Get: nice swivel jaw Parker. is that a boiled linseed oil finish or do tell how you got it to look that nice?

Balane: so we all know you have boxes and boxes of interesting paint colors, but really how much blue painter's tape do you go through and where do you get it by the case? AGAIN another nice job

funny thing as many of those Shop King vises that I've seen you post i have yet to see on in the wild around here. maybe you are like AutoPts and have little elves making vises in the back of your garages.

AutoPts: i think i remember you posting a Starrett 326 once upon a time and i'll be damned if i can find the post or a picture of it. any chance you have any pictures saved to repost a few? or have one of your elves bring it out on the famous table for a few pictures in the sun?

That's a Columbian all the way. If you are going to Bakersfield, make sure to bring your nomex suit so you can keep cool out there

Guys I think your right. It sort of looks like it is a 206 M2 or M3. 6" jaws and weighs around 160 lbs. If it is, then $60 aint too bad.

And your right about bringing a nomex suit, it's been scorching in Los Angeles (108 deg. last week at my house). Can't imagine what it's like in Bakersfield.

It's 200 mile round trip for me, so I'm out but hopefully someone else can take advantage.

That does look like the big Columbian to me. It's hard to tell the size of that table. Columbian made smaller versions as well. Here's a 3.5" version.

I'm guessing the vise is a 4 1/2 Columbian combo. Because it looks like it maxes out at 5-6in opening which is what a standard 4 1/2 combo opens to.

MacGee: i agree it's probably not a 6 incher, but a few hours on the road with the AC and Rock & Roll on isn't all bad with a vise in the mix. look at it this way if he is selling that one for that price i bet he might have a bigger one or know somebody that might have one to make your trip really worth while. or just asking him how he keeps his grass green and weed free in 120 degrees would be worth the trip for me even if the vise is only 4 or 4.5 inches.

Hot Chop: nice looking "little" vise. how does it feel when you turn it in and out or are you waiting to mount it correctly before you do that so you don't have it fall on your toe. i do remember that stand it came with and i'd still drill a couple holes in the floor to mount the stand and if you move cut off the bolts and down the road with that beast.

Thanks! It turns a little too smooth, I was doing it fast with one finger and the bar swung around and almost knocked me out.

Just got myself a stick welder that can actually weld thick enough steel to make some modifications to the stand that came with it. It will still end up bolted to the floor... Cause I like my feet :)

My neighbor taunts me with his every time I drive by his house and the garage door is open. I think it's a 4" model and its sitting on a pile of rags, unmounted and neglected

Soon......

Planned on keeping it bare metal but decided to paint it last minute.

But probably not....

That is awesome, looks great, especially with the red and black lista units.

Those were on the local CL although I can't find the ads now.

What brand are those?

I picked up an older Littleton 145 last weekend at a flea market. In good shape and waiting for a new owner.

DM&FS

Interesting, I don't think I have ever seen a non exposed screw Littlestown before.

Gany: I can't remember ever seeing that ad. also can't remember seeing the vise that Fretters likes in person or in a catalog. by the shape of the first Rock Island i'm guessing that page is from the 20's or 30's?

i just added another vise to my short list of ones to own because that one on the right is very interesting.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. Yes you are correct it's not the 6", I was off by a 100 lbs; it's a 204 1/2 M2 Columbian (I think around 65 lbs).

I spoke to him and says it works well, no cracks or repairs, the jaws are removable and in good shape although missing one side for the pipe jaw. The swivel base has been tack welded to the table but says it should be easy to remove. He says the table is very solid and heavy, keeps saying how good it is.

Somebody should grab it for $60

I like that piston vise too, never seen one before! Now someone has to find a real one!

A quick search shows that in the Rock Island magazine October 1922 issue.

I like that piston vice. Natty looking design.

Ditto. You can clamp round stuff without leaving teeth marks .

Yes as someone said 21/22.
I'm always searching Google books because new stuff gets added all the time.
Really a great resource!
