ZR: did you do any prep before the Boiled linseed oil? i do like that old Craftsman box.
Just found this Proto box at Skagit Building Salvage today. I'm not in the market for a "new" toolbox, but I figured somebody here might want it. I didn't see a price either.

How much did you score this box or did you not buy it?
aline, nice score. Is that a 22" or 26" box?
Thanks!! It is 26 in wide x 11 1/2 in tall x 10 in deep.

Hemi, that box should be marked " Metal Advertising Display Co. " somewhere. try indside the drawer behind the crown logo.
I have it's older brother, with the (centered) oval logo. I'm guessing yours will have a elbow support arm for the lid (min had a chain...). Does it still have the removable socket tray and the mini slider tray in he top center drawer?
57 catalog has it with the oval logo, 60 catalog does NOT have it at all (different boxes); so yours is 58 or 59, likely the Latter IMO.
Thanks Outlaw--I can always count on you guys to be experts in this area.. This is just like the oval one that I had a few months back--and in about the same condition.. I'm sure you're right as it seems the Metal Advertising Display Co seemed to be the stamping company making most of these--as I've also seen the oval-"heritage" era boxes missing badges with those markings.. It DOES have the red socket tray up top and the small slider in the center drawer still-lucky as this auction was online and there were no pictures better than the backseat pic above.. It was a shot in the dark--there's only one dent in the left side--barely noticeable. Crappy original paint job allowed for poor paint adhesion and surface rusting.. I think I'll hold onto this one due to the cheap price I got it for--wishing I would have kept the last one which still had the keys.. I love these old boxes..
Thanks again- I'll put more pictures up soon.. The other one I had is still in my album.. Here it is again-- (I'm working on finding a whole set of these old C-man designs..)

zkling, the support is 8 1/2 " hole to hole centers. it has a 3/8" kink in it and the holes 3/16". still could not find any stampings anywhere. got 3 of the big drawers out. what a pain in the ***!!!! any suggestions on getting the drawers out would be great. used a ground down hacksaw blade but took 2 1/2 hours to get 3 drawers out. thank jim
got around to do some cleaning of the atzec box. used water and some simple green and some dawn dish washing soap. need to go over some spots with some wd40 and other degreasers to get some really nasty grease spots out. during my cleaning i did not find any date or manufacture stamps. i guess there is none on this box. could someone please tell me if the company m b century metal box and cabinet is still around? if not, did the company change names? looked some more for a right hand cover support with no luck at all. any info on where to get a support would be great. like i said in one of my posts above, 8.5 center to center of holes. thanks guys. jim
