I recently bought a Plomb 4010 Heavy Duty Puller set.
This came in the box; 4019.
I've included pictures. You can see that the 4019 looks like it's 68 years old or something.
I've tossed the idea of restoration around in my head but let me be clear:
Me=novice.
I've never once attempted a toolbox restoration. Reason being; they are toolboxes. They aren't going to stay pretty.
But as I looked this little set box over, I couldn't help but wonder.
The paint has that Cracked With Age look- I admit I do like that. A restoration would remove that as I assume it would have to involve stripping the box to bare metal, smoothing out dents, dings (Like with paintless dent repair tools) and then re-painting. Which throws me on the top painted "Plomb made in USA 4019" bit as I certainly am not capable of painting that the way it is currently.

Should I leave it as it is? I don't dislike how it looks.
Or should I consider restoring the box?
If I did go for restoration, what's involved (Which leads back to the first question; is it really worth it?)

Leave it. It is still nice enough to not need a resto! Still looks good for 68 years. If you restore it the puller will look even more worn in it because it was not restored. It would be interesting to see the rest of the puller set when you get some time.

Certainly. -Cough- The forcing Screw is on its way even as I type this... Should be here tomorrow or the day after.

The last picture is some of the pebbles collection... just for kicks and grins. That's picture one of two, but I haven't gotten the stuff for picture 2 laid out, yet.

The comments to "leave it:"
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that thinks that it is fine as it is. Chances are pretty good I will end up doing just that, not just because I think it's fine but also because I'd fear screwing the box up. But I do recall seeing plenty of folks on here show off some amazing work on toolbox restorations. I've never seen one of these boxes in new condition, or in restored condition. Sometimes, I'm a bit jealous of those that were able to walk into a store and see these new on the shelves... This tool is twice my age.

If you restore it the puller will look even more worn in it because it was not restored.
I er... kinda... uhh... have considered replating that as well... That, at least, is something I do know how to do and could do well enough.
But I'm leaning very strongly toward leaving the puller as is.

You bought a screw... what about clips?

Here's my Proto set I found on CL for $25. I bought a new Proto 5295 box for it.

Have not bought clips... all things considered- seems like I was being gouged on that.
$25 - sheesh, Score! Had I paid that, I'd have been happy to replace springs but... No, I paid about $105 into it, so far.
I bought the puller (missing the pressure screw) from 81cblazer on eBay for $69.00 plus $13.00 shipping. The missing screw I hunted around a bit and finally settled on the Urrea 4012S. Got that on Amazon for total of $21 or so using Amazon Prime.
I had high hopes of scoring one of these at a garage sale or estate sale for ridiculously low price but never even saw any for a high price much less a low one. So when this one appeared last week, I decided to nab it.

Well, um... no... Didn't know there was one...

You'll notice above that the 4001 set shows two puller 4001-J arms. This is because I only have two. Finding replacement pieces to these things is... &*$@#*!!!
