I came upon this website from a veteran tech & HVAC company owner who was injured and is now devoted to helping home owners learn the secrets of trade and common home HVAC repair. Quite a bit more then the just housekeeping maintenance, this site incorporates both repair topics and a YT channel DIY videos called “hvacrepairguy”.. Maybe you have already heard about this but it was news to me so I thought I share it as a resource tool for all my fellow “HVAC DIY hackers” who may want to tuck this away in your bookmark favorites and save a fortune in repair cost.

You should read the part on filters, where they explicitly say NOT to use the type of filter *you* recommend.

I never said the resource was gospel, although there is a Gospel that is. Point is although some of the information subject to argument, it is intended a shield of self help DIY guidance to those who want and need it.

Having said that, does my personal preference in the use of high-flow air filters resulted in fewer maintenance issues with respect to my rental properties central AC systems saving me time and money? Absolutely! Is there a trade off? Yes, I have to go into the attic ($$ taboo) and clean the evaporator coil more often, "DIY"!

I put 5" thick media filters on everything. I never have to clean an evaporator.. Or clean anything. Clean evap means clean drains as well.

Its during the peak summer season (115-128F) here when our coils and blowers need as little stress as possible. Here on Arizona's west cost anyway, hi-flow is preached or you have blown fuses, leaking capacitors, and blower breakdowns. So tell ya what, I'll change my recommendation... ANYONE LIVING IN THE HIGH DESERT SW REGION...I HIGHLY RECOMEND YOU USE HIGH FLOW, LOW RETRICTION, NON-PLEATED RETURN AIR FILTERS!

OK, don't be bitter its a dry heat. Now if you'll excuse me the high is 88F today and I need to start winterizing.

I recommend correctly sizing filters for your application, not "use ****** filters because you undersized the filter bank".

But I'm all "anti-DIY HVAC HACKer man"!

Well that's the big difference, and a relief to many out there that I am a true Pro. Pro DIY, Pro free enterprise, pro constitution. No fear or anxiety here, just Pro independent minded for the DIY people...of the people, for the people, by the people. Yup tiger, that's what its all about.

So take your shoes off and use the links I posted to make your life a little more independent and a little less costly, and feel the satisfaction of
"DOING IT YOURSELF"

OK-OK, I admit I have been posting allot of one sided self help information for the DIYer and have contributed little to help you who are obviously strongly oppose to it. So here is a site that will help you properly "discuss" and more importantly "Identify" your customers needs. There are some very good tactics in this articles you should read slowly, carefully, consider very seriously. :)
