Thank you ilovevocs and TerryH. Terry had a glance through your website. That is an awesome woodworking shop you have setup.

Well I finally finished all drawer faces and installed them. It only took me a year!

Also cleaned up the whole South wall. It hasn't looked like this in over a year.

Here is the finished tool holder. I still have to make one for the chucks, extra jaws, and various spindle tools.

Wow! I love the garage but the toys and woodworking skills are amazing!

Where do you get plans for basic toys to build? I would love to start making things for my kids. Would love to have your skills.

Got a package in the mail today. New camshaft and lifters for the Caprice.

The 383 in my Caprice had been running bad for the last 2 years. Spent a little time here in there tinkering with different things. Finally figured out what was wrong with it. 8 cam lobes went bad. 3 of the cylinders the valves weren't even opening.

Here is what 6 of lifters looked like. Haven't pulled the cam out yet.
DSCN6006 by bjohnson388, on Flickr

My theory of what happened as this engine has less than 3,000 miles on it is I was running Mobil 1 Syn oil in it and it does not have any of the zinc additive ZDDP in it because the new roller cam engines don't require it and apparently it was causing emissions. At least that's what I've read. So back to good old dinosaur for this old flat tappet. Hopefully the rest of the engine is ok. Bought this Summit cam to get the car running again and out of the driveway and moved to the big garage so it won't be yard art anymore.

Just read through your thread again, as your email had me looking for more photos.

Love your attention to detail.

If you say your dad is the master, I do not want to see what his skills look like.

You are clearly a very capable and good student.

Trust your boys will follow in your footsteps.

With the longer term changes I have in the very back of my mind, I think I may "box up" part of my English garage later with a double door between wood side and car side as my shed is only 8x10 foot, so quite cramped, and it has a wooden floor with 18mm ply sheets as reinforcing.

Look forward to you shouting YEEEHAAAWW!!!! when your car is back together.

PS: Love these gloves, they just have to feel good on when you are working where they are needed.

Great space and amazing wood working skills!!

Thanks Cole. I see you are on the 67-72 chevy trucks forum. I am as well but in the 60-66 section.

Slow progress in the big garage spent 2 days organizing and cleaning. I also got the Caprice fired up and running and moved it out to the big garage. Also got my wife' custom plates on the 64' and put the bench seat in it. Man that bench seat is awesome compared to the junk that was in it.

No progress on the big garage. Spent all of our extra money on a trip to Disneyworld at the end of July.

But I have been working on a scale model 32' Deuce. Here are the tires and wheels I made.

The one on the left is a front wheel I made using Maple as the whitewall. I found a much lighter wood Aspen. To make the wheel on the right which is a rear.

I may have missed it but is this garage at the In-laws? Looks like there is another garage right beside it, possibly an attached?

I noticed that t face frames for the newest cabinets are inset a bit and/or the sides of the cabinets protrude a bit. Must curious as to why?

Thanks T

Thank you Sean

Yes sir the big garage is at my Mother in laws. The woodshop is my garage at home. I know it gets confusing I switch back in forth with pictures from both. Our plan is to move out to where the big garage is at some point.

And there is a 2 car 20 x 20 garage attached to the house. Couple of better shots of it.

Good looking box joints Bret! use a a jig on your TS or handcut?

ML

I used a jig a made for my tablesaw. Once you get it setup you can fly through them. And the part I like the most is no fasteners used just glue and wood. I can't imagine how long it would take to cut them all by hand.

The jig

I made some tool holders for all the screwdrivers. I hate having screwdrivers in drawers.

Replaced the rear axle bump stops on my Camaro. The factory ones were shot.
The driver side feel completely off last week when I was replacing the shocks.

Did some bodywork on the 64'.

15228004407_77d952aa4e_b.jpg

Had some spots of rust on the roof that wouldn't come off so I sprayed them with a rust neutralizer. It turns the rust into a hard black coating that you can paint over.

15228007517_67b420c1fd_b.jpg

Trying to get all the bodywork finished up on the cab so I can paint it in a couple of weeks when I am on vacation.

what did you use to finish those wall cabinets? Use the same stuff to finish the lathe workbench frame as well?

Great place. I've been telling my wife the next house we have, I need 2 separate work areas. I love working with both wood and cars.... the 2 don't mix well.

Thank You. I used Minwax gloss poly oil base.

Yes you are right about woodworking and cars. You don't want wood dust all over the cars and if you are doing in metalworking you don't want that in the woodshop.

Wow, first off its sad to hear of your father in laws passing away but it seems like what you are doing with the garage and projects would have made him happy

My dream garage would be just like that, having a separate woodshop and mechanic/garage area! Keep up the good work and your woodworking skills are very impressive!

Thank You Jesse. I had a look in on your bench build it came out great. A little jealous of the cool hardware cabinets you got with hardware.

I keep coming back to this thread, as I wish I had the time/funds to do half the projects you have completed. One thing I noticed, is that a window unit installed in your current woodshop? From the photos, it almost looks like you built a box around it, and possibly have it vented some other way besides actually hanging outside. If so, I'm VERY interested in how you went about this and how it has worked out for you. I live in a HOA and it would be really obvious if I cut a hole in the side of my garage to hang the unit out.

I have the same situation as you with the HOA and a solid brick wall. What I did was cut a hole in the ceiling and and made an extra soffit vent for the exhaust to go out. The existing soffit vent is to the left and pulls in the cool air from outside and I have that vented into the side via 6" duct work. I also have the fresh air baffled inside the box. My only regret is not buying a bigger A/C. It is a 8,000 btu and if I did it again I would buy 10,000 or 12,000. It doesn't have enough cooling capacity to bring the garage down past 78*. I only have two walls insulated and the ceiling. I have the bubble wrap reflectix on the garage door as well which faces West. If I run the A/C all day starting in the morning it will keep it right around 80-81* on a 100 plus day.

But if I go out and turn it on after being at work when the garage is already heated up its pretty much useless. The 8,000 btu is rated for 400sqft and my garage is around 373 but I didn't take into account that it would no be operating as efficient the way I have it setup. Its better than no A/C but I was a little disappointed with it as I was hoping for something that would cool the garage on hot afternoons after work. Oh well won't be here for two many more years so I just live with it.

I can't find any pics of it right now but I will snap some for you when I get a chance.

Welded up the hacked up radio hole and finished bodywork on the high hump. I almost have the interior ready for some color.

A little bit of bodywork and then I have to make a template to cutout the original center hole and the right knob.

I welded up a ton of holes in this hump and then some bodywork.

I am going to tear down and restore this vise soon. Its an 8400. My Uncle said it came from Camp Mabry machine shop. I plan on painting it blue with silver lettering like I have seen done here on GJ.

One of my favorite threads I have read on here. And I have read hundreds. I have been a long time lurker, even under an old username. I'm loving your choice of vehicles and of course your wood working. I have been wanting to learn better wood working techniques and skills. It is a passion with no experience. Keep up the work on all your builds. I'm a Camaro guy too. I've have 3 LS1 Camaros, one being a SLP edition, two just regular SS's.

Bret, this is exactly what I was hoping to read. Glad to see someone else who has overcome HOA restrictions to still cool their garage. When googling how to build a contraption to use a window unit like this, all I could find was the pot heads who were trying to install them so that they were not drawing attention to themselves. If you get a chance, I would love to see how it is setup. I've contemplated either this or doing a mini split.

Thanks! How do you like that Puma compressor? Is it the 3HP 60 gallon? I've got a small Makita compressor that I've been looking to upgrade, and the Puma has definitely been on my radar.

Your work is mind blowing. It's like Henry Ford goes woodworker. Your attention to perfection is spot on. I have also enjoyed making wooden toy 32 Deuces. They are child toys in comparison. Thanks for posting your awesome inspiring wood work.

Thank you for sharing your work. Love the Deuces. I had a look through your photo albums. I really like the ones with the whitewall tires. Do you have more pictures of ones you have made would love to see them. Thanks for stopping in.

Cagullett1 I love the Puma air compressor. Yes it is the 3hp 60 gal. I wouldn't be anywhere with the 64' restoration without it. I have had it for almost a year and not a single problem with it. Its very quiet and the only thing that drags it down is sandblasting for more than 20 minutes straight.

Here is a link to where I bought it. Best investment you can make if you need a big one.
