Vintage SnapOn Parts Washer i picked up

So browsing Craigslist has paid off again for me.

i saw this parts washer listed once before and the price was coming down, he wanted 800$, i talked him down to 500$ over the phone. When i got there it was buried with other equipment all around it. dirty as hell kinda in the weather under an awning at a Transmission Shop.

Well i asked to plug it in and make sure the pump and light turns on. Well neither did it didn't do anything. we settled on 200$ and we loaded it up into the Trailer and i drove the hour anda half back to the Shop.

before cleaning hard to tell but it is covered every surface in a film of grease, dirt and Grime.

Outside and most of inside wiped down and cleaned 500 Lysol wipes later. and a can of brake clean

So now comes the fun, i have a few things to order and hopefully i can get the pump working again.

that was the whole reason for embarking on this one so i could essentially clean the parts and stay clean myself.


found the original manufacture of this unit its made my Deeblast. found from an older garage journal post.

Really cool. I'm guessing the company also makes blasting cabinets as well. That's what I thought it was when I first looked at the pic.

So, i have good news the motor and pump turned on when i plugged it in today, thats great saved be a bunch there. ( snapon wants 1500$ for a new pump)

After 2 days of cleaning and scraping the RTV off from the previous owner, i am almost done.

Have to source a new seal for the clamshell. and removed all the windows and will go get some replicas made up and one for spare of each. along with new gloves as these had holes in them

also found the light sockets are both producing power so should just be some new bulbs to get them working again also.

when i pressured up the system the switcher valve started to leak so i checked snapons site they want 250$ it looks like a standard 3 way parker valve(60$ish) ill source one locally on monday.

one step ata time.

right now the big question is do i try to make the outside look good, by means of sand blast and paint/Powder Coat or just let it be as is.

Now in your earlier post it said the pump/light didn't work when they first plugged in. Did he have faulty outlets that worked in your favor??

when we were there they checked the outlet with a battery charger and it had power.

im thinking it was either not enough, the pump was vapor locked or the air bubble foot switch wasn't being stepped on hard enough.

either way im happy that its getting power where it should!

So i finally figured out who makes the switching valve for this thing and didn't pay the snapon price or the price from deeblast at 96$ got it from msc for 66$.

ordered new parts from deeblast:
Foot switch bulb to activate the pump
new drain piece with seals
Clam shell seal for the whole cabinet

went to local plastic supplier and had new lexan cut for the light up above and the viewing glass. original plastic was about 1/16" thick and when you tightened the bolts it cracked. so i upgraded to 1/4" thick Lexan.

picked up a couple new light bulbs from home depot while i was at it.

i am now thinking i will blast the cabinet and give it a new paint job.

couple things i have to decide color, and what sealant to use for the windows that will resist varsol

Looks cool as-is. Why make a collectible brand item "not original" when you can never go back?
Guess I just don't get it.
