While I was at Harbor Freight today I got the 1/2 drive version of the new pro series ratchets. I know there has been some questions about the internals and greasing so here is a quick video I made for it so everyone can see it and take it apart if you don't know how.

Thanks for the video, don't flatten the washer like you said. It is wavy to put pressure on the head, when the cover is torqued in place. It won't be as precise without it. Might even slip... That way for a reason. Nice demo :beer:

I was thinking that and I didn't flatten it out just yet, just wasn't quite sure because of it being a HF. I figured someone on here would know more lol Thanks for the info sir

Idk why I just can't seem to get myself to but a composite lol I hear great things about them but it just seems wrong buying a plastic ratchet :lol:

It's metal. Plastic coated. Many people assume it's all plastic, it's not.
Buy one - you'll LOVE it!

Good demo. I stopped by HF the other day, they even had a couple on the rack, but that plastic selector put me off and I skipped it for now. If the go on sale and 25% still applies I will have to pick one up in a 1/4 drive just to have it.

Two I played with both were nice low drag, but selectors felt wonky.

Hello,

Nice video. I bought several of these ratchets when thy first came out.

I disassembled the 1/4" version and lubed it up a bit.

The one thing I was concerned about was the screw that attaches the selector lever appears to be adjustable and seems to be Loctited in place once proper clearance is set.

It seems to me that there is a possibility that if you don't use some method to retain the screw after reassembly it will come loose.

I reapplied some Loctite (after some prep.) and set the adjustment torque (I guess) and its been "OK" for what I have used it.

Seems like a nice ratchet.

Havent used it a lot, but I would be interested what happens if you don't relock that retaining screw?

The selector is actually metal. Its a lighter alloy but its metal. The reason it feels that way is fitment, when I first touched it i felt the same way, I felt like it was the downfall of the whole thing but after playing with it more I feel more confident in it. It will probably break but what won't lol. :lol_hitti

Yeah I noticed all the screws had locktite on them. I guess it would just fall out worse case scenario. But I'd just bring it back lol

To be 100% honest Idk, I'd assume yes but we all know what assume means :lol:

I think it is besides the dual pawl types like the 120xp from GW but same basic principle just more parts

exactly. Many of the Taiwan ratchets have this design. There are many different designs out there however.

After four years, the screws on my composite ratchets are still there with no loctite on them. They did have blue when they were new, but I cleaned it off before re-installation.

If it did fall out, lifetime warranty, no biggie.

Just took my new 1/2 standard length apart today too. It needed a bit of lube as it stuck a bit at one point every 360 degrees. Very smooth now. I'm pretty happy with this purchase. Thanks for putting the video up.

Did you ever put it in the vise at work like you mentioned in the video?

Harbour Freight sells stuff called Super Lube. It's the same stuff that Snap-On sends you in a little tube with their ratchet rebuild kit.

I saw a show on a Taiwanese manufacturing worker who was bad mouthing Chinese made tools. There "pro" stuff really isn't that bad.

that's exactly what I got. I might make a video on the Red Lube of Love lol

In for info on vice destruction. Would you be willing to cut the composite handle off? I want to see whats under it. Custom handle maybe my hf pros future.

Great video and thank you for taking the time to do this. I bought all 5 of them and have not used or lubed them. They do feel good in my hand and the guts remind me of the old Proto design and the body looks like Snap-On. For the price plus 25% off its worth a try if breaks lifetime warranty. Lol
