Small 3 car attached renovation - Porsche haven....

We recently moved to a great house on a beautiful chain of lakes - the only down side was that I gave up some significant square footage in the attached garage, though we have plenty of space for me to build a 30x40 detached fun building which will hopefully be done in the next 6-8 months.

The old attached garage was not one for a car lover...! Bare stud & a marginally supportive gusset wall holding the tracks & openers for the 3 narrow doors. I knew if I could remove the gusset wall, I'd have a nice open space due to the sloping ceiling condition. With a loose plan, I hired my builder & over only a 4 week period ended up with what you see below - it's heated & air conditioned, has a small shop area with a lake view, 55" TV, garage vac, power everywhere, loft space for storage and a great open ceiling. I'm very happy with the way it came out....

We also ran 220v for a 4 post lift, which will be installed in a week or two & then moved to the new garage once finished.

After!

View of the lake (through the trees) from the shop door....

Still need to hang the artwork....

Wow, let me be the first to say "awesome garage and cars"!!!! I really like the simple building design with lots of room for a lift and the high lift doors are perfect! Congrats on the garage!

I would love that size of space as an attached garage, the uesful offshoot for the tools I would find very useful to. It doesn't look that small to me. Im Guessing you were abit spoilt in your previous one to be disappointed with this one.

I like the use of the vaulted ceiling and that open-ended wall to create some hidden storage... very clever. Lovely cars. I dream of owning one (literally, one) one day.

Edit: would love to see more of the lake-house as well. Another one of my dreams is that we will eventually settle in a home on the water (once we're done with big Army moving us around every 2-3 years!)

Thanks very much for the positive comments! I'm very lucky to have found the cars that I have - all the Porsches are keepers. Also have a BMW M635csi, Mercedes 500e and a couple of DD's.

Very nice. What is the wheel/tire combo on the 944 Turbo?

They are Ruf modulars - 8.5x18 & 11x18 with 225/285 PZero's

Great job. I have to ask how long did that take?

4 weeks....

It's a Gladiator 8' work bench with a maple buther block top - very sturdy. The cabinets are just Craftsman 'evolve' - I believe they were discontinued....

Yes - very spoilt... I now have 3 cars in a local storage facility
Looking forward to the new garage to bring them all back together!

What type of floor is that? I can see it is an open type interlocking tile, but what brand/type specifically? I need to do my floor but I'm having a hard time justifying upwards of $3.50/sq.ft. to do it.

Well done, well done. 2001 996 C4 Tip owner here. What color are your walls? I love the contrast though not too dark.

Nice collection of cars. I look forward to seeing the new 30x40 garage build thread. As the attached one is impressive.
I know what its like having a car collection seperate. I have 2 at home in my attached garage and 4 in my 5 car garage a few streets away. Sadly I only have the lot size at home to be able to build a detached 24d x 30w so im having to down size too..

Nice garage; impeccable fleet. Is that longhood a backdate or white? I love a widebody longhood--it's the route I'm taking with my M491. I assume you're on Pelican?

Are you thinking of more than one 4-post lift?

More pics of the classic 911, please!

Not at this time - just need a 4 poster to get through the winter and allow my GF to park in the garage.

More pics of ALL the cars below ;)

It's a great product - Mylec Dekmat... 3"x12" sections make it extremely easy to unsnap for cleaning & moving - large sections can be rolled up for transportation. I moved it from my last house & it took less than an hour to reconfigure for the new garage. I have jacked up my cars on it & it seems to be quite stout.

I love pictures.... See below for pics of the entire current stable.

Sherwin Williams - Monorail Silver... I went with a flat finish; more maintenance, but less reflectivity, which helps with ambient lighitng and when detailing.

I see a Pure Michigan plate! The topography looks like Lake Michigan/west side of the state? Beautiful area out there. I'm from the SE part and there are lots of nice little lakes but not the kinds of landscapes as the west part of the state.

Great looking collection. I love the '67 911 as well as the M635; those are some beautiful photos of the latter.

At the risk of straying off the topic of the garage... is the 911 mostly stock/original? That's quite a collector car these days.

Thanks Brian, that shot was taken in Carmel, CA.... I purchased the car last year from a gent that owns a great Porsche restoration shop in the Bay Area. After purchasing, I comissioned him to transform the car from this:

To what you see pictured above..... It was a very enjoyable process as I've wanted an RSR/ST style 911 ever since watching them race at historic events (Brands Hatch / Silverstone / Brooklands etc) as a boy.

We timed the completion of the car to coincide with the Monterey car week this year - I flew into SFO, collected the car & drove down to Carmel for the week.... Great trip!! The car was then transported to my house in MI after Peter tended to a few punch list items.

I live 15 minutes from Ann Arbor.

Ha! You are on Pelican! Pretty good build thread over there. I like the red, and I really like the gray.

Aside from paint, bumpers, wheels and exhaust, what else was done?

It's a long list....! Note the mirrors, trim, rear reflector... Interior redone. Suspension etc.

I know i've seen these cars before.... Did you have a previous thread before you moved?

I did... I forgot my username/password & the email that I registered with is no longer active so I couldn't get either.

Thank you. I searched for 3 years to find an Arena Red 993tt with black interior; just about all of them came to the US with either grey or cashmere. The M635csi is a black market car that was imported before BMW released them here. Most cars that were DOT'd ended up with ugly bumpers & huge side markers... Don't know how my car made it through without...

Knew it! Nice work creating ANOTHER awesome space for your toys. Do you have another garage as well right now or do you store cars offsite?

Thanks... The other cars are 5 minutes away in a friend's warehouse (tucked away in a safe corner).

Another 951 owner here, except, like anthropraxis, mine has an LS1 too.
Great cars and shop!

951's are superb cars. Mine retains the 4banger, but is quite heavily modified!

Ah... How could I have forgotten that username!? Thanks!
