A mini-review of my newly added FLL80. It surprisingly has a touch more back drag than my Armstrong 11-994 but it's still pretty nice. I have used some various Matco 88's that were rougher and had more back drag though. I really like the feel of the selector lever more than the Armstrong/Matco ratchets but it's pretty bulky and might get in the way when you're somewhere tight, especially considering it has a thicker head. While it's not terrible to take apart and put together it's more difficult than an Armstrong/Matco. Overall, I am not disappointed with my first dual 80, but it did show me how good the Armstrong/Matco ratchets are. I'd say they are about equal overall depending on your criteria.

I don't have any way of posting photos, however i went to three Sears stores today (my wife is a saint) and spent just under $100. Finally finished off my set of Craftsman Pro Screwdrivers and Torx Drivers.... I got 13 drivers today... I am pretty happy about it

It's the same dealergroup so I doubt the benefits would vary.

I haven't asked about tuition reimbursement with this employer! Thanks for reminding me!

Maybe you'll have some good luck. But I had some dealers who were willing to do tuition reimbursement when I was graduating from core. But once I got into the ITEP program since the dealers already had 30 days to pay $8000 to hire me from that program tuition reimbursement for core went off the table. So I've been paying my loans myself unfortunately.

No doubt. I have my student loans in my budget and I'll have them payed off much faster than required. I'm not worried about making my payments, though it would be nice to dump that money into tools so I could post in this thread more frequently

I see where your coming from with these dual 80's one thing though why do you need such a long handled ratchet ? I've got an FL830 which is a little over 10 inches but that man that is long reach :)

I think the "correct" answer is so I can reach stuff like engine pulleys, timing cover bolt, etc. Honestly, I like the amount of control I gain with a long ratchet, if that makes sense. I can be much smoother applying torque on questionable fasteners, which i've found helps me keep from rounding off nuts and bolts.

Some people own quads. Some own motorcycles. Some drink too much. I buy tools and love my job...what's the issue?

I remember years ago my dad and I were talking about how much he's probably spent on chew and beer throughout his life. We took the avg price spent per month and multiplied that by 12, then by how many years he's been at it. Aside from inflation and what not, it was quite the impressive number. Let's just say that I'm not a chewer or a big drinker and I can make a 6 pack last as long as he makes a 30 pack last. I just spend less on it.

Well **** I've got a full set of them I was thinking about selling. Barely used.

Around here most shops will pay your way through the local program. Or at least a good portion of it. At least for diesel.

I love my 24" matco. Some lube smoothes them out a bit but dual 80 is still a touch smoother but the slimmer profile of the 88 sells it for me.

Yes I see what you mean, I'm looking into it's 1/4" drive cousin for doing timing cover bolts aswell, but these 3/8" drive ones would certainly make serpentine belt jobs easier :)

I've got a 24" Matco 88 tooth and it's not long enough sometimes. I use it to release belt tensioners, transmission fill and drain plugs. Wheel bearings. The list goes on and on. Long ratchets come in handy all the time.

No doubt I could've gone that route. I'm sure I would've been successful either way, however I would not have finished as soon as I did and I wouldn't have gotten my factory certs as fast as I did.

Whether or not my decision to go to UTI was one that everyone agrees with, I made the decision and I'm happy and successful [emoji2] .

If you aren't done yet then good luck to ya!
Certainly. Wasnt knocking your choice. My program takes longer, but I weighed that against the extra cost of other programs and it made more sense for my situation. Good luck to you as well.

Some people just don't understand how much money techs have to drop on tools to do their job, some just like and want the best.i can tell you I'm over 30k in my tool box with snap on and mac.

It's just our thing, some people chose to blow money away on smoking and drinking, fishing,or boating.some pay way to much money for the stupid smart phones.we like tools, what's wrong with that?

Does anyone have the part # for this screwdriver?

My dealer hasn't seen one yet and I cant seem to find it any the number anywhere.

Thanks.

Eric

Here is a close up of the new screwdriver a few have commented on. Honestly probably not going to use it at least for a while to keep it pretty in case they don't keep them coming out. My driver told me that a few of them just appeared in his last order and that he couldn't order them specific, at least currently.

New clutch-type flaring tool (between the Nylog and Bosch drill bit in pouch) w/ deep shoulder flare. Very useful and inexpensive tool, $45 at United Refrigeration Inc. Other brands are selling it $100-200 each.

How much did them chrome swivels set you back?
Both are 3/8 sets.

$85 for 10-19mm

$70 for 5/16-3/4".

That's at my shops pricing level which appears to be 60% of list in this case.

I do like that they come with my preferred style of socket organizer. Worth a few bucks.
Man I have like 35 drivers and still find some that I don't have..how do you know your set is done?
When they don't offer anymore lol.
Problem here in the UK Matco is hardly known of, we are mainly Snap-On & Mac tools :) Unless I go down the Ebay route !
Bummer. Not a ton of matco stuff I get excited over. Lots of rebrand. The 88 locking flex are my favorite ratchet ever though.

I don't think anyone was arguing the amount invested, just carrying a 30k balance with the truck. Most realize it doesn't take long to invest 20k especially if you ever buy a new box.

I can get ya some. Haven't used one yet but first impressions are good. The finish is decent and they seem very solid built.

My 24" Is 1/2" drive. I used to have a 17" but I decided that If I want to use a 1/2" ratchet, I want to have some power.

My 12" 3/8 locking flex 88 is by far my most used ratchet. Perfect size for most things. Followed closely by my 6" 1/4". My matco 88s were the first pro tools I bought myself when I started building my own set 4 years ago.
