Hydraulic lines to keep from rounding of the nuts as bad. The 12 point versions give a smaller degree to engage the corners so work better in tighter places.
In my experience the type shown are longer and don't have the wider wrench on the opposite end to catch on stuff like normal double end styles do.

I have been trying to put a set of those together for a few years myself. I have some doubles I would trade, a 9/16" or a 1". I already have all of them to 9/16" and then I skip to the 1" size. Everything in between is what I am looking for.

I heard that these wrenches can be as bad as they are good - if you have to really torque on a line nut they'll spread and strip it faster than anything...what do u do in those cases?

Perhaps a suitably sized Knipex pliers wrench would fill the bill?

they're rarely on that tight, unless some gorilla was working on it last. I've already used the set I got last week quite a bit.
I need a 3/8", 13/16", and anything over 1" (if it was even made, can't find any).
I've been using HF 12 point wrenches with slots cut in them, but they aren't nearly as strong or comfy as these. I'm keeping them around for when I need a shorter swing, though.

For the love of god, I don't know why somebody doesn't make these again. By the way, your wrenches will ship monday. I had to buy a printer, got one tonight.

Not really, I was procrastinating. The old printer died, and my mouse/keyboard remote started to. I was thinking of getting an entire new setup, and replacing the 7 year old computer. Reality is kicking in though, and I just can't justify it when this one works, and money is going to be tighter this year. So, I bought a cheap printer to get me by.
You think there would be any copyright issues with replicating this design?

As long as you weren't perfectly the same, I wouldn't think so, no. There are only so many acceptable ways to build a similar tool. Maybe they got a broad enough patent like snap-on with their 4-way wrenches, though?

The easiest answer to eteks question is, It will happen no matter what wrench you are using. Some gorillas always tighten stuff way too tight. Some times they freeze and nothing will get them loose.
But some people like to blame the tools instead of the fact they used a pipe trying to get a frozen nut loose. Other times the metal is just really soft and spreads like butter no matter what you do.
