Snap-on's etorx sockets are some of the thinest on the market. Never broken one of mine and i use them very often. I bought the complete offerings on the swivel etorx as well. Super handy when working on mercedes and porsche vehicles.

I work at Mercedes and the E-torx gets used a lot. I would definitely go with snap on ones.
Haven't broken one so far.

Couple of my co-workers have bought Matco because its cheaper, but they seem to break often.

Good question. I own both. A Matco impact set which have been great and a Snap-on chrome set that utilizes a low profile ratchet or 1/4" drive ratchet that has also been great. I don't you can go wrong with either one

+1 for SO, I worked at Mercedes for 20+ years and never broke one. Alot of the other techs used Hazet and never complained... I however have no experience with Matco, Hazet or any other offerings.

If you do work on European cars alot I would recommend getting a set up to E24-26 (impact for large sizes) as MB uses them for axle bolts. Others might as well....

hey skyline are have you been using the regualr crome's of impact versions? i agree with you guy's about vim but these things go to work all day everyday. i have been getting by with this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004XD0Z6O/?tag=atomicindus08-20

seriously for the diy or a tech who doesnt see torx that much these things are top ****. i have only broken 1 t40 bit out of the set, when i did this i was trying to remove caliper stud's on an M5 ( there not supposed to come out). i also broke 3 SO gold torx t40 sockets trying to do the same thing. SO just broke off the tip when impacted with a 1/2" and my nieko socket exploded when hit with the 3/8ths !

i'm pretty set on SO at this point just wondering if i should grab some impact one's as well or solely the impact ones

I have impacts from E14 and up. Some axle bolts go that low. I still use a 3/8 impact & air ratchets on the lower sizes which are chrome, and have for ever... never broken one.

I never use a impact on Torx bits (internal) unless I have already loosened it and am wanting to remove the bolt quicker.

Totally not answering your question, but I have a Facom set that has served me well for nearly two decades of BMW engine, clutch, and transmission work. Just thought you'd like to know. :p

What sizes are common on a Mercedes?

All of them! From E4 to E24. Most engine bolts will be E4-E10 or E12. Suspension will be E14-E18 (including some axle bolts) and alot are E24 axle bolts and some larger suspension pieces are E20-E24

Interior panels, screws and some bolts are usually regular torx

I will probably have to pick up a bigger set soon. I work on mostly VW/Audi and my incomplete E6-16 set hasn't been used.
