Hello All,
It's my first time here and thank you for your advice in advance.
I am seeking advices / ideas on building a garage for our newly purchased house - we are trying to figure out where we should put the garage ( Due to FAR ratio, it has to be attached garage) and the type of garage.
As you can see in the pic, the only place that we can put the garage seems to be the front right corner of the house ( on the paved drive way), but if we want a two car garage (20 by 20), it will block the front door. There was suggestion to add a mud room as connection btw the house and the garage, so that the front door wont be directly blocked and it seems to be the best way to do it so far. I really like the look of the house front and really do not want the house look like a giantic garage if possible. is there any better way to do it? would it make sense to build a tandem garage instead? i assume that it is less appealling to a lot of ppl in terms of resell. i also did some reseach on car lift placed in a one car garage for two car parking, but my husband think it's not practical.
Another qusetion is do you think that it is necessary to hire an architect to design the garage? Will a good general contractor be able to come up with a good enough plan?
