Hey Guys,

I am a fresh member here, great forum.
I tried the search and i got almost all the answers i wanted for my epoxy flooring

A pro "residential garage" epoxy-system should look like this:
Grind the floor
Make repairs, if any
Epoxy Penetrating Primer
Epoxy Base Coat (100% solids)- flake if desired
Optional: urethane topcoat with non-skid.

But i would like to know how can i tint the epoxy base coat or when can I paint the concrete, before or after the Epoxy Penetrating Primer?
Since they are all clear, and I would like to get grey color.
(i have 5 gallon of AeroMarine Cycloaliphatic “Non Blushing” Clear Epoxy #300/21 for my garage project)

Thank you very much!
And Im sorry if it was covered before and I didnt find it.
Chris

Welcome !

First, please check out my links, I was a total newbie and what your going to do I have already done

also see my answers in your below post good luck

I would...

Hey Guys,

Make repairs, if any
Grind the floor

Epoxy Penetrating Primer (OR use two coats of base)
Epoxy Base Coat (100% solids)- flake if desired
Optional: urethane topcoat with non-skid.[/I]

But i would like to know how can i tint the epoxy base coat
Yes you can have the base coat tinited any colour you wish, the supplier will tint for you
or when can I paint the concrete, before or after the Epoxy Penetrating Primer?
The epoxy will have a datasheet, the primer will tell you how long to leave before top coating, USUALLY 8 hours, if you use 2 coats of base, WHICH will do the SAME THING, again its about 8 hours between coats

Since they are all clear, and I would like to get grey color.
You can also get the top clear coat tinted, if you DONT want flakes, get a tinted top coat the same colour as the base, BUT FOR FLAKES you need clear obviously

Check out my youtube videos and my garage project here

Recomend you use ONE manufacturer for top, base and primer DO NOT mix

Thank you very much!
And Im sorry if it was covered before and I didnt find it.

Thank you for your quick reply.
Maybe i wasnt clear, or I just didnt find the answer in your links

1., Grind the floor
2., Make repairs, if any

3., Epoxy Penetrating Primer (if this product clear/transparent can I use concrete paint on it to give color, or any other paint to make it grey example?
4., Epoxy Base Coat (100% solids) - mine is clear/transparent so i will add flakes
5., Optional: urethane topcoat with non-skid.

Thank you!

repair first then grind (my correction was in blue)

I've not heard of clear primer. and when you say paint, your talking about ordinary concrete paint not epoxy?

If so, you can't paint over epoxy, it's like painting over glass

There are 3 separate processes (after prepping the floor)

1 Prime (tinted)
2 Base (tinted) then flake
3 top (can be clear or tinted)

OR

1 1 coat of base
2 2nd coat of base (then flake)
3 Top coat

all explained in my links and videos

ok so the product is a water based 1 part epoxy.

just to explain. TRUE epoxy , is a cross between a glue and paint.
You usually have 2 tin's part A & B, one is the pigment the other the hardener.

Once mixed and applied, it sinks into the concrete and bonds dry, if done properly, no hot tire pickup, resistant to stains etc.

NOW, what you have is paint, 1 part epoxy paint (I have used something similar on my driveway, so it's not necessarily bad)

Most of the pros on here avoid big box store products.

so really you have a couple of options.

1
Use the product as directed, including prep instructions, see if it advises if and HOW you can topcoat it with another or same tinted product. (it should say on the can) ... If it is water based, I suspect it can be overcoated.

2
Get a proper (;)) epoxy product, that is 2 part, (a base or primer and topcoat and or clear) and do the same prep and get a (better) result.

It all depends on what your expecting, quality, stains, how long it lasts.
unfort. with this product I don't know.

Looking again, the HD site doesnt say if you can topcoat it, if you have the product already, ring the company for support

But again, one thing you should always do ..don't mix products

HTH

let me know

Idk, i used it to seal the concrete under hardwood floor, like a moisture barrier, thats why I thought
Btw here is one, clear: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Seal-Krete-Lock-Down-1-gal-Epoxy-Bonding-Floor-Primer-106001/202563942
