Puller for removing rear axle shaft from housing

When I did this job on my truck a few weeks ago, I had to pull the axle and hub assemblies out of the rearend in one piece, brake shoes and all, and take them to a machine shop to to press them out... My slide hammer couldn't pull them.

This truck is over 200k miles and they have never been removed. I'm sure they would come out easy now , but in future situations like this I would like to do it myself. With the amount of money I spent per axle I think I could have just bought a puller?

I've been researching OTC pullers in amazon and I was wondering what you guys use in situations like this?

Had trouble separating the axle shaft from the hub assembly to gain access to the bearing.

Had no problem yanking the axle out of the differential but then to access the bearing I need to split it, after I pull off the lock nut, locking washer and spacer

yea this is honestly pretty common, i work at a cadillac dealership and some of these older models are notorious so you just cross your fingers when you get one. Ive heated up bearings and sprayed them down, used pullers and the biggest slide hammers out there and still had to do the same thing. Best bet might just be to buy a press, if you thing youll have to do it again. However did you try and use a puller on it at all? In a lot of my experiences if an air hammer or slide hammer isnt even moving the axle, your in for a hell of a time.

At Nissan they just cut the bearings off. Used to work for them and that's what they had me do.
