How to safely and securely hang a crowbar

I have a crowbar too big to put in my tool cabinet so I need a way to hang it somehow. Anything I lay on a shelf is as good as lost forever so I want to hang it somehow in plain sight.
I don't have small children around usually but my cats climb on stuff and I don't want it to fall on one of them or my foot.

Any suggestions?

After hanging mine on the side of the box or the handle and it falls if you look at it crosswise or vibrates off and falls....

I use a short piece of PVC/CPVC pipe oversized for the bar, and about 6-8" long. I then hose clamp that to the back side of the tool box or a shelf. It is reasonably easy to get it in and out, and it hasn't fallen out or worse, snagged me as I walked by and THEN fallen on the floor or my shin or my foot.

Can paint to match or ...

all the best.

Perfect. Thanks.

Using some pvc had occured to me but I was concerned it would get brittle over time and suddenly break. In my thoughts I was going to screw the pipe to something. But your idea of using a pipe clamp/ hose clamp should stop the tool from falling even if the pvc cracks or gets knocked into by a loaded down tool cart.

I don't recall who makes this item or where I've seen it before here on GJ, but there is a really neat pry bar/screwdriver rack made of steel that can be attached to the side of your tool box or cart. There is a lockable cover that hinges down over the top of the rack that prevents removal of any tool from the rack unless the cover is open.

Maybe someone more experienced with searching this site can find and link it for you. It's probably somewhere in one of the thousands of posting in the multiple "Show me your toolbox" threads.

I use a galvanized trash can for my sledge hammers, crow bars hanging on the side, pinch bars, long metal tubes and so on, easy to find, and it never falls on the floor since its hanging inside of the can.

.

Turn it around. I hang mine on the side handle, so as the hook is forward and the heal against the tool box.

I like the trash can idea. In my case added hangers under the benches, find somewhere it doesn't snag you in the sac or worse.
Grey electric pipe is a bit more durable than water pipe but its a great thing to make from scrap. A pinch bar is second nature and would just take up drawer or add to cart weight. I like it in a convenient hanger somewhere it can be seen. Same for a hammer and a few hand tools. I hate opening drawers for super common items.

Sunex 8008 or 8011 depending on which one works better for you. I learned about them here also.

I have mine hanging on 1/4" pegboard, but if you're limited on wall space, 5 gallon plastic drum or small garbage can.

I have many of my hammers hanging from the floor joists of my garage loft.

The ones that are not a falling risk hang between a pair of nails.

The ones that are a falling risk also hang between a pair of nails, but I screwed a hard drive magnet to the joist behind the hammer head. It's strong enough to hold the hammer up without the nails there, and unless you've got a good grip on it, it's staying put.

My crowbars that have a closed nail puller (keyhole shape) hang from that on a nail. The rest go in a basket screwed to the wall.

I have the large sunnex holder - not good for a real crow bar but great for mechanix handled style prybars. You need something with a handle - dual end bars like a tapered alignment pin/angled pry will not stay in them and a crow bar would take up a lot of space plus require enlarging the holes. I would go with something similar to the pvc idea above for a crow bar.

Sometimes you can find racks for fishing poles that you mount on the wall horizontally. They work for other things and hold hand tools great (long extensions, breaker bars, etc). Won't fit a torque wrench though should fit a crow bar. I get old stock from the junk store sometimes, the one I got is rapala...does what it needs to do.
