What rod did you use? Technically what you did was solder and not weld. Not trying to nit pick, but if you want this to be an educational video, I think it sould be as accurate as possible.

You reckon this technique would work to repair leaky rivets in the bottom of an aluminum boat? I guess you can't do it upside down, or can you? For example-you can't get to the rivet in the interior of the boat and have to get it from the bottom side. And you can not flip the boat over so you have to get it upside down.

Your absolutely right! And I totally agree with you! HOWEVER, the manufacturers of this product say it "Welds". Although I totally disagree with this statement I must stick with what the manufactures say. I did not invent this product to say what it does and does not do.

I hope you can understand.

I have used the product to repair small holes in the bottom of smaller alum boats, by flipping them over or on their side, I don't think you will have any luck trying to do it upside down. the stuff is just to liquid.

What rod did you use? Alot of the manufactures of those magical rods, don't know much about the processes I've found. So why continue the chain of misinformation if this is an educational video?

I don't know about that stuff but I'm trying to weld up a timing cover for an old Toyota at work now with a MIG spool gun and it's tricky

Man, don't you watch TV? Use Flex Seal. If it'll fix a leak on a screen door in the bottom of a boat, it'll fix a leaking rivet. It comes in Clear from Lowes too.
I'd try bradding the rivets to reseat them, then try "rigging" it up.

There are several folks that make this Rod and they usually have a lot of zinc. I like the ones by Washington Alloys, but there are several others.

It is more like brazing than welding. If you look on YouTube check out hts2000. You can build up or replace missing components. Cool stuff. Flux cored aluminum Rod works good too, just takes a lot more heat and not as flexible in use.
