I recently sold my small mig for a heavy duty drill press. I am replacing it with another machine.

Has anybody built one from scratch ? If so I would like to see a few images. This is the one I built. I used a transport truck muffler hanger for the tank, and an old Hurst shifter to steer it.

I don't think anyone has ever made a cart for a small mig machine, especially to include a gas bottle rack. You should patent the idea before word gets out. Good job on your build

That is unusual. Why did you offset the spindles instead of having the wheels in the same axis?

just a guess - to lessen the tip hazard of a three wheel platform. Kind of a pseudo out-rigger arrangement.

Just started a new cart last night but didn't get too far... Will be a three story cart, holding Mig, Tig, and Dent puller..

Jon - Here is one that I made in the late '80s. I made it for a Clarke that coincidently I purchased from a welding supply company in London. The Clarke is long gone and I now have a Lincoln 180 in it.

An important feature for me was a small table top for resting all of the things that are necessary when welding (helmet, gloves, welpers, nozzle cleaner, wire brush, etc.). It now has 4 rotating and locking casters (vs. 2 rotating and 2 non). That makes it a lot more maneuverable in tight places.

Edit - I'll be upgrading this stand over the winter ... stay tuned.

Dubbydoo - Off topic (sorry) but I'm currently replacing the floors, sills, etc. of my Cherokee (also black). Are you doing the same?

This is mine. I made the handle stick out farther on the front to make it easier to pull, and to protect the front of the welder in case it gets pushed into a wall.

Jon - I'm afraid I can't remember the name of the supplier. I recall that it was located west of Wellington Rd. and south of Exeter Rd.

Here is the one I built. The welding shop where I bought my Lincoln welder recommended that I build my own, would be better than what they sell.

This is a really clean and simple cart, I love it. Really like the 360 skate wheel in the front, might be stealing that idea for my next rig.

Question: how was the tipping hazard, any better?

I have one set up similar with the welder at a 60degree angle like that and the bottle underneath it actually. Its ok, but has a tip forward issue? Ill post pics.

Hi Thank you for the compliment, it was very stable and easy to move. Efficient use of material ( dare I say ).

When I sold it the guy was more interested in the cart than the welder.

Just trying to be different I guess, Good luck with your build.

Thanks. Didn't really know what I was doing, just knew what I wanted, and fun to build.

I made this cart for one of my plasma cutters but it could easily be used for a small welder.
