So obviously not the singles but any of the sets come in molded cases?

A lot of people don't like the CG handles on their pliers - I'm not one of them. So comfortable, so easy to hold on to... and I haven't found that they get in the way at all. I do like the standard grips on the Cobras though... it just works with those pliers somehow.

Not that I've seen... but a few of the circlip (snap ring) plier sets come in a soft pouch. I think maybe some of the Cobra sets too... I don't know, I've bought all mine individually.

Ok because the amazon listings state "comes in tray" but it looks like more of a packaging tray than an actual molded tray.

Actually, you probably wouldn't want to see most of my other drawers - a huge mishmash of used and abused tooling from dozens of different brands and eras. A lot of it is scratched, dinged, and dirty, and not organized very well. The Knipex drawer and my ratchet drawer are the only real nice ones - and mostly because I've only had a Knipex fetish for a few months now!

Believe it or not, very little of my tooling is bought new - most of it comes from pawn shops, yard sales, and thrift stores. I make exceptions occasionally for things like the Knipex and Wiha stuff - I think I'd probably die of old age before I ever found a Knipex tool used!

Regarding the tray, my circlip lures came in a tray, it's not fancy , but it's probably better than the tray of some socket sets!

Why would you want those big clubby trays taking up space?

The catalog has a few things in the back that come in sets. Outside of those nothing comes in trays. Just lay them out in a shallow drawer or use a pliers rack in a deeper one. I chose to lay mine out but have a pliers rack I was going to use until I realized I needed to fill my shallow drawers and not my deep ones.

I do like the quick reference molded trays offer. I stack my pliers in too tight for a foam cutout to be of any use. I've lost a few pliers because I didn't know they were missing due to not having a reference. Or of you get too many out at once you can forget how they were stacked in there. Ive been slowly replacing all of my crappy snap on drawer liners with pig mat adhesive backed mat. It's a light blue color so I think I might trace all of my pliers on it with a sharpie when I get to that point.

I didn't like the comfort grips at first but now I love them and wish I had every tool in comfort grips. Knipex was just adding them to more and more when I wen on my buying spree and I didn't want a box half and half at the time. I don't mind the standard smaller cobra grips, same grips on the precision snap ring pliers. I don't care for the plastic dipped handles especially since the markings rub off immediately and they are very easy to chip and cut.

I wish they would put the newer style comfort grip with the slim design on all of the cobras and pliers wrenches. I like the style the best.

Knipex and Wiha? You sir are a smart man. Two of my favorite tool companies. Even my wife likes them. She uses my precision knipex pliers for jewelry stuff because the hobby store ones **** she says.


I meant to get updated pics when I was at the shop but forgot to. Few different pliers in the Knipex drawer now. I've pretty much bought every pliers from them that I'm interested in at this time. Always room for new stuff though I was like a kid waiting for Christmas waiting for the pliers wrench XL to go on sale in the US. I did actually fit it in the drawer without stacking it. I turned all of the pliers wrench 90* so their handles would run up between the cobra handles. I can't say enough how much I love both the cobras and pliers wrench. I had channel locks before and dreaded using them, now I grab the cobras for everything because they work so great. Pliers wrench is especially awesome for lines and fittings, the ratcheting action let's you speed them off fast. I love them in the field because I never know what size wrench I will need to remove a hose. I never did own crescent style wrenchs but the pliers wrench is so much nicer to use and faster. The hose clamp pliers are nice too and the other picture shows the smooth comfort grips that take up less room. I use the 250mm size the most so I figured that was a good excuse to own two. I'm actually thinking about getting the same pliers but in a quickset version.

After my most recent Wiha order (picture of big drawer full) I have a lot of reorganizing to do and I feel I've bought basically everything I want from them as well until new stuff comes out.

Thanks for the great post! We see things pretty much the same when it comes to these fine german tools.

The photos are pure sweetness... I have a long ways to go before I end up with a nice set of tools like that! I'm in no hurry, though. I'm taking my time and thinking it out - don't want to buy tools I'll never use, I'm trying for the optimal selection... can't afford to buy it all!

Damn Germans... their quality tooling that we can't resist buying must be economic revenge for losing WWII !

I'll answer for him - I have the same set (but without the gray tray).
They are Wiha precision drivers, for fine work. Slotted philips, Torx, hex, and nut drivers in really small sizes, mostly for electronics and fine machinery (think watches). I recently added Pentalobe sizes 1-6 to my set, after a friend brought me an iPad to open up and I didn't have a tool for it (Unusual!).

Search "Wiha Master Tech Set" in google for details.

1x 22-inch Cobra pliers (these things are massive)
2x 7-inch Cobra pliers
2x 10-inch Cobra pliers
1x CoBolt Cutter w/notch, spring and comfort grips
1x 8-inch long-nose pliers w/comfort grips
1x 9-1/4 inch NE-style Linemans pliers w/comfort grips

It's been a couple years purchasing them, but every single one of these has lived up to the hype een and the price, IMO.
I've lately been getting more stuff with comfort grips. They're worth the extra few bucks, I think.

I have the same CoBolt cutters - spring, CG, and notch. I haven't found anything those monsters won't cut - and the cutting edges are as new as the day I bought them!
The only thing that concerns me about them is the little plastic closure lock... how has yours held up over time? Is it as delicate as it seems?

My CoBolt cutters get banged around a bit in a metal toolbox filled with other pliers, wrenches, etc. and the plastic lock has held up just fine for about a year now. They stay locked too.

The "King" Cobras are badass. The only limit is your own strength.

The notch is a new thing after I got my cobolts. My ideal cobolt has the notch, 20* offset, spring loaded, and comfort grips. I don't think they make them yet but when they do I will be buying and could honestly sell all three that I have as they wouldn't be used much anymore.

The comfort grips seem to never add more than $5 so I feel they are worth it.

Yep, a holes at Wiha made it too thick to fit the shallow drawers. I think I can get it trimmed down to fit though. I hate blow molded cases in my toolbox but this is one exception. I'd be digging through those things for an hour trying to find the right one.

51 or 52 piece iirc. It was on sale when I got it I think.

I don't have any pentalobe just the one that came in a screen replacement kit for an iPhone 5s. Other than the microscopic screws that was a pretty easy job, much easier than doing the glass on galaxy phones.

Yeah... didn't really care for Wiha's stand, I wanted something more customized to my particular set (currently 68 drivers and the chip lifter) so I made my own.

It definitely won't fit in a drawer, but I leave my Wiha precision set on the bench anyway. If I kept it in my box, I'd come up with something a little different.

My current Wiha precision drivers include:
All available slotted screwdrivers
All available philips drivers
Torx from T1-T8
Pentalobe Torx Plus IP1-IP6
The 8 smallest SAE nut drivers
The 7 smallest Metric nut drivers
All available SAE hex drivers
All available metric hex drivers
Chip lifter

I use this set all the time, though many of the sizes never get used.
