Picked up 16 vise grip locking welding clamps for $ 30.
Half are coated with fiberglass resin, but all work fine.
Guess I have the only fiberglass coated clamps:lol_hitti? I can always use these when I need to leave outside, they'll be weather protected.

Thanks Lowbuck! We hit the flea today but the only thing there was a blacksmith forge, slightly over priced for condition so we stopped by the pawn shop and a few garage sales on the way back to town. It was looking pretty pitiful until I got a text from someone I contacted from CL yesterday, he had a "machinest tools" ad(his spelling) so I quickly changed vehicles and stopped by for a look. The guy's brother was a drill press operator for a machine company here and lost his job, fell on hard times. It only took a couple drawers to convince me to whip out the cash. I got the two boxes and contents for $125, I'll post up contents as I get them unloaded. We accidentily laid the box down loading so everything is crazy right now. Be back soon with pics.

Went to breakfast with a friend and hit an estate sale on the way back. There was a line to get in, small house , alot of folks coming out empty handed saying prices were high etc.
Patiently waited in the cold ,damp morning finally got in and found these items:
Craftsman needlenose pliers,Waldes truarc pliers,Ridgid pipe wrench and a Starrett 4" combo square. Paid a whopping $7 for it all and the pipe wrench was marked $3 so technically I paid more for it than I did for the combo square:rocker::rocker::rocker:

I know ZK, it hurt my heart to hear the things crash around inside but luckily nothing looks damaged.
Here we go, SEVERAL NOS Starrett pieces but everything on the table(first 2 pics) is Starrett!! "willy_nil :rocker:
01705.jpg

01706.jpg

This is everything except the Starret that was left in the box.
Cobalt end mills, taps and heli-coil inserts.
01707.jpg

Tap extractors(?), mag bases, odds & ends.
01708.jpg

Drill bits long and short, bolt outs, t-slot bolts.
01709.jpg

Taper adaptors, Smartlevel, set screws and Z's fave, obligatory Allen wrenches
01710.jpg

Couple mage bases, Mitituyo caliper(looks new), mini screwdrivers, couple dial Indicators, Tap Extractor fingers, Enco wiggler set(looks new).
01711.jpg

Mashup of **** left over, big box of Walton tap extractor fingers(NOS).
01712.jpg

Couple questions, what are tap extractors and how are they used, and any idea wtf those half sphere things are in the 4th pic?

Tap extractors work by sliding in between the flutes of a broken tap.cinching the 'collar" down and allowing you to grip/spin the tap fragment back out. Handy to have ,hoping you never need to use them.

2cbdc1032742adb15c95a6938d07de40.jpg

$5 for the craftsman vise. Anyone know who made it?

$4 For a Montgomery wards 1/2" 450rpm drill. It works but the chuck is seized. Kroil should fix that.

$5 Kennedy toolbox, rusty on the bottom but all drawers pull smooth as butter. I had to take all the junk in it, too. Guy wouldn't let me dump it out...
$5 old school Makita drill, seems to work fine. Might try replacing the battery just to see if I can get a little more speed out of it.

Good score on the box.

Home Depot still sells the 9.6 V Makita batteries. $49 last time I checked.

Nine, nice pile of machine stuff.
That's weird, I just today came across tap extractors, didn't have a clue what they were.

Nine great score! looks like the tap extractors have never been used except for that middle one, as it has the obligatory bent/munged fingers. the good news is I think they sell those separately. That big one outside the box is scarey; I can't imagine breaking a tap that size! I don't think I've ever broken one larger than 1/4"

No clue on the spherical things, pic isn't clear enough

Thanks guys, Alin, that makes perfect sense now!! GP, the vise is either U.S. or Japan, usually cast or stamped in the base and the manufacturer was Columbian for U.S. maybe japan as well :dunno:

Thanks Outlaw! In my last pic, the box with WALTON ad in it, it's FULL of NOS fingers for the tap extractors in different sizes.!!

Things seem to be drying up around here for now. I went to 4 iffy YS's and only came away with a yoga mat for $2 (for drawer liners) and a 6' Lufkin metal folding rule for 50¢.

Nice scores, Nine.
Can't beat the screws for 3. I always ****** them wheni come across.

It's OK if you use the yogo mat, really.... You don't have to pass off as liners:lol_hitti.

Seems to be a few yoga mats popping up recently :lol_hitti

Picked this up from a craigslist ad this morning. Seller was asking $80 with a home-made wood cabinet on wheels as a base, got it for $50 by itself. Not pristine, but certainly not abused either. I like the drawer layout. Seller was super nice, also picked up a really cool DAM Quick fishing reel, and he threw in an old oak ammo box. Plans are to use it as is for the time being, but hope to refinish it when I get a chance.

waterloo.jpg

Saw the add for that on CL - glad someone here grabbed it.

What did you do with the wooden base? :FIREdevil

I hit some E-Sales today and got a few things. For a total of $12.50 I picked up :

A Red Devil glass cutter for LOML
A pair of Utica diagonal cutters
2 pairs of Channellock 420 pliers
1 metal coal/grain shovel (for snow)
1 pair of vernier calipers

Garage sales are pretty much done for the season here in NJ.

Cheers

Jim

Nine, I think the spherical things might be quick release hose ends, can't tell from the pic, but it looks like you might only have one end type. they are usually used for water at moderate pressure but one of yours looks like it's hooked up to an airline fitting. Sometimes the big engine driven compressors use them as well on 1" airlines.

If it has "Japan BF" stamped on the bottom, it was Daido. You got a great price on a nice basic vise. When at estate sales, I always watch for the USA on the side and if I don't see it, I know its Japan made. Still good quality imho.

I was at a sale once and they had a similar 5 inch Cman for 25.00 and the guy running the sale was a jerk, so I asked him was it made in the USA, he said hell yeah, I said if I go through the trouble of unbolting it from the bench and find Japan BF on the bottom will you give it to me for 1/2 price, he said sure, but assured me it was made in USA. 5 minutes later I walked out with it for 1/2 price.

Thanks! It does say "Japan BF" stamped into the bottom of the swivel base.
This vise will likely be used as a replacement for a small exposed screw Columbian that is currently my light work vise. Just have to straighten the handle out a bit.

Those half sphere things are for use with the trammel sets in the other picture. They're used on one trammel point to center up in an existing hole so a measurement can be made or arc scribed a set distance from the hole center.

Thanks Big Pete, I was going to ask about those next but the spheres I was referring to are the ones ttpete helped me out with below!

Thanks! It does say "Japan BF" stamped into the bottom of the swivel base.

I have two 3", a 4" and two 5" and only one is U.S.A., they're all about the same quality to me. Good score at a great price!

That's the ones, SUPER THANKS!

Lead is about as welcome here as a person in the final stages of incurable Ebola

I find it in 50 lb piles nearly 2 times a month. The best haul was an old dirty garage with at least 400 lb in the back corner.

What do you do with your lead. Cast bullets or fishing weights?

For those that have been following this thread closely, here are the pictures you have been waiting for.

This first one is what I saw outside of the garage but there is still a whole yard of **** to see

I think these were all Groton mills

Here is the drill press I'll be picking up next weekend. My dad ended up taking my Buffalo 18 for his shop so instead I grabbed up this Walker Turner

The picture isn't direct but it's off to the right

Anyways, here's my lateset find from my never ending estate sale. This is one of the things i bought the third time i was there. Need help to identify. The round pieces are marked lisle with CM and then three numbers after that. I believe it to be a cam bearing driver set but after searching the interwebs can't find anything conclusive.

Here's some more takes from estate sales. I was about a hour late getting to this one. What looked like SO screwdrivers on a peg board were, but I missed them. Based on what I paid, they likely went for a buck or two a piece. Anyway I picked up some decent stuff, brass drifts, two, sets of mixed torx bits, a Matco ratchet and a tub of ratchet straps. Next time I'll go with my gut on which one to hit first.

Another estate sale advertised a lot of machine tooling and lathes, have a lathe, just need to build up some more tooling. Get there early , number 6, had my eye on a box that had the tooling, number two guy reaches over table and its gone.
I picked up a nice misc. bunch of stuff though. My favorite is the pic below, it was a $ 2 zip loc bag that I almost missed. It has about four pin vises, if I'm calling them correctly. Funny thing, I was looking for some, and on the second round picked the bag up and there they were, with drill bits too.

The rest of the stuff from this sale. Can't pass up a $ 2 pair of side cutters, specially when they are broke in. Missed $ 2 set of Knipex cable cutters by 12":bounce:

I cast bullets. Occasionally some fishing weights. 230gr .45's eat up lead fast!

Man you guys are all over it this weekend!

I went out for a shot time and hit a few yardsales and one Col flea.

Quite a bit for camping:

Picked up this camel back water bladder for .50c! New, never used the mouthpiece still had the sealing shrunk on plastic

attachment.php

Another duffel for $2 as the one for my camping shower/Privy privacy setup's cheap plastic duffel has all the straps and handles breaking off from rot.

attachment.php

An interesting leg Holster or pouch base ; I think the ALICE gear clips onto this. For a buck it was worth getting just to try out.

attachment.php

Finally some tools: 2 1/2" SO Extensions, TrueCraft (Japan) tiny flex head 1/4 drive, and an offset DBE.

attachment.php

And from the Flea market: Krauter Needlnose, Long C Craftsman dykes, a brass bar, and a Boy Scout hatchet Sheath. not in great shape but all for $5 I also had an interesting surgical long nose gripper, but I must have dropped it somewhere at the flea...

attachment.php

Lastly, I went out and got this off of CL: my 10 YO commuter bit the big one last week (engine block or head cracked...) so I needed something quickly.

Removable Hardtop, folding windshield, (Samurai's don't come with the folder hinges and latches stock....) The PO changed all the markings to the Indian Maruti "Gypsy" version, including the grill, and painted it "Arrest me Red!" (Actually Ferrari red!) :shocking:
