Yep, that little hole next to the center swivel hole.
A Vise my father owns. Is that a factory weld on the dynamic jaw? Is it worth him restoring it? Thanks.

As far as I know...There were never any "Factory Welded" cast iron vises...especially as that repair is right at the point of major stress...
That is a badly done repair...
If your father is happy with his vise, by all means do what ever he wants with it...
There are a bunch of higher quality "Ancient Clampers" out there that need love too...
but it's held this long, so by all means keep it in use!

Thanks,
That's what I thought. It does look like a sloppy repair. He really has no use for it, it just sits under his workbench. I'll let him know. Regards...
All: I picked up this Monarch 223 vise that another member has been holding for me for a couple weeks. it's probably going in my "little cabinet" for now because it's the first Monarch vise i've owned and i do like that cast lion's head on it. it has a small crack on the back slide and when my neighbor gets well from his heart surgery i'm sure he'll want to help me braze it and make it better than new. it works fine as is.?

it has 6 inch wide jaws and i'll add the weight once i weigh it. there doesn't seem to be much history available about these awesome vises other than they were made by Prentiss vise company. anybody have any information to share please do and if you are a non member and know something please join Garage Journal so you can post what you know. thanks
JeanB: nice 1951 bullet. did you do the restoration?
I know I promised myself no more vises but then I saw this ad.
I know I promised myself no more vises but then I saw this ad. All it said was 'old vise' with the pic below. So I went the three miles from my house and found this...that's right a Reed 206R. So I asked how much, he said $120, so I bought it. The last pic is of my garage. Athol 626 is in front, Reed 206 is in the middle, Parker 976 is way in the back.
I apologize if the pics are sideway. I have no idea why my phone does that

Excellent purchase joe.stripper

VA it is STRIPER NOT STRIPPER! Jesus you're killing me and ruining my reputation
I found a great 27" vise stand I'm picking up Saturday. So at least I've a home for one vise. I'm going to have to sell one of these but i like having the three in the garage.

You mean your NOT a male Stri....

if you have an 8" Parker I'll be anything you want....![]()
And, by the way, '8" Parker' would be a great stage name.
It amazes me how you keep falling into all these great old vises. Nice find.
Location, location, location?if you have an 8" Parker I'll be anything you want....![]()

Can anyone tell me anything about this?

Guy swears it's USA. "All I can say is I know old American steel when I see it." I didn't know that you could determine COO just by looking at the steel. There is no USA stamp on it. Can anyone confirm that it's USA? Is it worth going to look at for $25?

Rocket thats a small vise right? Ive got a Craftsman like that with original paint I'll sell you for $5 plus priority postal shipping. I got it as part of a deal when i bought a bigger Craftsman vise and a Wilton C0
Location, location, location?
What size jaw?
2.5 inches.
Heres a couple pics
You are right zkling but give me a little credit for recognizing what it was from the picture, which was totally nondescript. I've gotten my best deals that way. Oh, by the way this ad was 20 days old and no one bought it. I thought it was a 5" and when i got there i nearly crapped my pants. I did try beating him up on the price a little but it was a no go.![]()
Yea, that's a completly different vise, notice how the stanley is built like a full size vise with the cast, machined slide and all. The craftsman is a standard clamp on with guide rods and an exposed screw.
I really like the style on those large Reed's of that era. Are you going to keep it or sell it? I'll give you some credit, but you have to admit that some parts of the country have a plethora of certain items. Even just a quick check of your local CL will prove that.
An anthol 624 just got listed out here for 100.00 or best offer. What would be appropriate to respond with?
Thank you for the responses to my last post and the welcome back.
It is a swivel base.
