No not Mac and cheese lovers...

I thought maybe you might enjoy a few Mac tools.:rocker:

First up is an old Stanley #88-508 F2 1/2 Drive Ratchet and just for laughs I placed it next to a more up to date Mac 1/2 drive VR 11K ratchet.

Next up are two older Mac models the Mac V5R 1/2 drive, and the Mac X3R 3/8 Drive Ratchet.

Not much love on the GJ for Mac but I thought you might enjoy these pictures.

I have noticed the absence of love for Mac tools on this site and don't quite understand it. Back in my days as a pro I bought quite a few Mac tools and thought the quality was very good. Granted, the service received at the time was a large factor in purchase decision as well. I'm just surprised that there isn't much discussion about them here.

Back to topic, nice tools OP. Any idea of ages on them?

I own a lot of Mac tools, and I like them. I really like old Mac tools. Those are awesome pieces!!! The ratchets on the top right are my favorite.

I think with the lack of support of the Mac dealers from the parent company and the resulting high turnover of dealers, lack of dealers and iffy warranty and service, I think that many are reluctant to spend top dollar on Mac when they can buy snap on and be assured of a true lifetime warranty and service.

It's almost as if Mac cares more about selling tool truck franchises than tools.

Mac man here. Wrenches, impact sockets, chrome sockets(love their mids),hammers, swivel sockets. All older series, but I have a couple of the knuckle savers too.

I sent in some swivels that had lost the pins: they sent me new ones.

No problemo. Fast too.

Edit: Mac date???

My grandpa had a couple MAC boxes, said he didn't want to pay that much for a SO. But most the tools are SO, but I like his Mac stuff, qualities is pretty up to par with SO.

I love older Mac tools. I've never seen Sabina ratchets before, really diggin' them! Mac still makes my favorite sockets and I have many of their older tools.

I was wondering why no Mac post here, but Im new and was not about to bring it up.....LOL
Here we have all the tool trucks Snap on Mac, Matco, Cornwell, even seen a new Irwin truck the other day going through town.
I see a lot of Mac tools in the Mech tool boxes plus the guy that has the Mac truck is a lot more friendly than the snap on guy, Im not a Mech so I don't deal with them on a day to day just small talk when they come by the shop or at the store

I have some Mac tools here and there, but I have never had a Mac tools dealer consistently over the years.

I love MAC knuckle saver wrenches, but I'm not that hot on their ratchets because of their tooth counts. It seems like since Stanley acquired them they have cheapened the brand. Imo The last ratchet I got from mac was a 1/2 xl long mac edge Taiwaneese) I spent $125 bucks on it and stripped the teeth within the fist couple of uses. To add more disappointment I seen a Stanley bostich ratchet at walmart that had the exact characteristics, same pear head quick release, tooth count just not an xl long $20 bucks. We shouldn't have to check walmart to make sure the tool truck isn't re-branding home owner tools and selling them as a professional quality tool for a premium! Mac has since discontinued this line of ratchets.

Mac dealers are rare and much of it is relabeled lisle and similar. I asked about a macsimizer box and the largest box is not that big really, and the dealer and the DM didn't know much about them anyways. They did claim they were being redesigned and will have new models out soon, but not much push to get me to buy one or anything. I asked about discounts and rebates and the looked like deer in the headlights so hard to buy or even consider something when you know you can get a better deal from snap on without even trying.

I do like there precision torque line of newer sockets, yes they are xi-on overseas sockets and you can order some on ebay from the UK but unsure about warranty later down the road. And it seems like Mac is having more of a line up made for them.

The expert line thy are selling on the truck is pretty good for the money too, the air tools are average basically all PTP and aircat made stuff I think.

Becuase Mac quality has went downhill but their prices are still premium. No reason whatsoever to spend more for Mac when you can get the same tools by buying Proto for a hell of a lot cheaper.

Those 2 older Mac rats.........the V5R and the X3r......are, as best as I can see, EXACTLY the same as this Artisan ratchet made by S-K. Can anyone explain the relationship?

I'm seeing that from these posts. I've been out of the game of buying premium hand tools for over a decade. Mac was right up there with Snap On on a lot of stuff back then. I'm seeing that things have changed a lot.

Definitely and if you do go on a Mac truck most of the drivers don't push the Mac USA made stuff much cause it's more expensive than the import that they can sell easier.

Cornwell is similar to Mac just blue boxes instead of red.

Dear me, dear Me... Yes as I was writing this post in the back of my mind I was thinking about the SK ratchets in question and the connection.

I wish I could answer your question; what I can tell you is to send a pm to GJ member lauver he collects Mac and maybe he could help you out with your question.
