I'm curious about you guys not putting closets in. What is the logic behind that?
Good question!! This house will be our last home. With my career, I travel a lot and when I'm not traveling I work out if the home. So the whole relocating because of work is not (currently) a concern. But you are right closets would be more marketable. Also I like being completely out of debt which is why we are "downsizing" so I can retire early (mid to late 50s) so any area where we can cut down on added drywall, lights, paint, etc the better. Plus my older sons will be out of the house in the next 5 years (lol hoping at least). Lastly in theory if anything er er happened and property taxes were of concern we can get away of this being a shop with temp living quarters instead of a 4,500sqft home
And instead of closet wardrobes will be in place!

Excellent build! Long time lurker but thought I would post as I have a few questions which you can PM me with the answers if you want.
2. Why are the bedroom's labelled as "office" / "classroom". Is this for zoning purposes?

So are the roof metal beams going to show, or are you hiding with the sheet rock in the office? Going to have some sore body parts if you are doing the rock yourself
The large beams will be exposed... and my GC's crew will be doing the sheet rock. My work travel keeps me away from all the fun

Thanks again for sharing updates, especially pictures. I am planning something very similar here in central NY as our retirement home, described in my sig. link. Always looking for new ideas to refine the project since we're still a couple years away from building. Keep it coming!

I think this is a very cool building. I can't wait to see more of how the house will look/turn out inside the building.

Thanks I appreciate it! I went out there last night after my flight home and most of the sheetrock is hung. So plumbing finishes need to be completed and then we should start seeing results much faster than our current pace.
Our Thanksgiving timeline is now pushed to a "hopeful" Christmas timeline.

lol, different strokes for different folks. we can't stand our current home. it's gorgeous to everyone else and some of our friends think we are insane for this drastic to them change but at the end of the day no matter what you need to make yourself happy and while this doesn't work for most, it's our little piece of heaven, our dream.

Any chance additional subscribers will take electricity of of the line that you paid for? If so, you may be able to get back some of your investment. I know that some COOPs have this kind of policy.

As long as you "see red" you are welcome in Texas.
If some of our neighbors subdivide we should be able to get some cash back but that will take awhile since most of our neighbors are huge (100-500 acres) farms/ranches.
Those tanks are 5,000 gallons. They were purchased at a place local in Dripping Springs. (Can't think of the name right now) off of hwy290
We love it here! We've lived in CA, SC and now here in Texas and couldn't be happier. I travel a lot for work and I still miss Texas no matter where I go.
Limestone is everywhere here and it costs much more to dig then to run poles.
Chicago is great late spring or very early fall but the other times I've been there no thanks! I'll stick with Texas, not much into the cold and snow.

A very interesting build Moiro! So a dumb question here but with all this talk of tanks and water delivery, I'm assuming well water is not an option due to the arid climate? I think every house (and we're swimming in water here) should have a grey water recovery system as well as rain water collection system. So the 15000 gallon tanks will be used for domestic supply? How long would you predict that would last with your family?
It's really interesting to see how we all have our location specific challenges. We are inundated with fresh water everywhere here...but it's frozen solid for 5 months of the year. Ha.

That's a great question. We as a household go through on average 7,000 gallons a month. Rain water will be our only source of water. I will have a separate system for irrigation/carwash, ect.. Well water is an option but my wife just couldn't handle drilling into our land. And as the saying goes, "happy wife, happy life" I will be fine with paying for either more tanks or water delivery.

Hope it rains a lot, then. I would prefer a well myself IF...the water rights came with the property. In some states that is a big IF.
Some day I would like to hear the logic behind that.
You have a great looking lace going in there and one that is similar in what I envision being neat to have. My problem would be that the wife would want the open space to be a animal barn. Currently 'her' barn is the same size as 'my' shop.
