This tool came with a handful of others and I have no idea what it's for. There appears to have been an id tag on the box but it's long gone

The tool straps around round objects and has some strange looking inserts that are included in the box. They don't seem to fit on the tool so I think this is just part of something bigger

The box has Pratt Whitney West Hartford Conn. on the lid with nothing else

The gridded pads appear to be for lapping. Being P&W, I`m going to guess a tool for lapping in a surfsce relative to a shaft, like a gearbox face.

What does it do exactly? Is there more pieces needed to make it work or does it do it all right there?

It's for squaring the anvils on a P&W Super Micrometer.

The large V-block is secured over the column in place of the sample stage. Then, the large lapping plate is secured to the top half of the V-block. This sets up a perpendicular plane between the column and the face of the anvil. The small lapping plate is charged and worked between the large lapping plate and the anvil.

It looks mostly if not totally complete. I believe the kit also included an optical flat, but I might be mistaken.
