Garage Design Problem - See Pics

I decided to build a closet with sliding doors in my garage to hide all the garden tools. I did it on a whim and didn't spend any time planning . After it was framed & drywalled we realized that it doesn't leave much of a path to walk around the side and behind the car. Right now we park both cars in the double door area.

We have a 3 car garage and have 2 cars plus a 4x8 trailer with atv. We are debating 2 solutions. 1. Mine 2. Wife's

1. Start parking one car in the single bay, its a pain to make the turn into the single side entry bay, it requires reverse.

2. Take down the closet and build a new one where the trash receptacles are.

Any one got any ideas?

Can you cut the closet loose from the walls and floor. Move it to the back left corner and reattach it. Minimal drywall and closet rework. Shouldn't be much of a hindrance on the back wall.

But back on topic, I think i would probably go with the Wife's option. It seems like the closet would fit much better and allow much more room to move around in that stall.

How about something small on unobtrusive on the outside of the house? A small shed or even something like this:

For what it's worth, you don't want your drywall touching the concrete anyways. Any moisture will wick up. BTW....I go with the wifes idea

I thought about the back wall but the garage is only 22 deep so tight when pulling the car in and not good access to tools when car is in garage

Not allowed out buildings in my neighborhood unless they are connected to the house and want a cleaner look but not a bad suggestion

Its hard to tell from the pics but I did hold the drywall off the floor about 1/8-1/4" and used a treated plate. Its tacked with a couple cut nails into the floor but would be easy to remove. Also its not on the prints but there are stairs in the back right corner inside the garage behind the powder bath that lead to the basement so that corner is no good either.

I'm starting to think the wife is right, maybe go with a bifold door in the other space since its smaller.

Camera settings. Everybody wants the latest and greatest "Gigapixel" camera and more pixels = bigger pictures. More pixels are fine for professional photographers but for most people it is not necessary.

Camera settings. Everybody wants the latest and greatest "Gigapixel" camera and more pixels = bigger pictures. More pixels are fine for professional photographers but for most people it is not necessary.

I will add to Torque1st's thoughts Gigapixel cameras are great if you are going to be printing off large pictures from the camera but for posting on the web 2-3 megapixels is more than enough. I have a VGA setting on my garage camera which does just fine for pictures I put online honestly anything above 3 megapixels cant actually be seen on most monitors anyways.


Now as to your closet problem I would move it to the opposit corner where the garbage cans are that way the yard tools and garbage cans are hidden inside the closet .

Isn't it just the way - the wife's right again! And the guy doesn't want to re-do what he just did!

Tell us aain, why you can't park in that stall with he closet. Once the door of the car is past the closet, can't you open it, get out, close it and walk around front? Maybe it's just what I can see in the MEGA-picture.

I think your wife's idea is the best. Here is a suggestion. Not sure how deep the closet is, but it looks like it's not going to the ceiling. I would build it floor to ceiling so you could keep the trash cans in there and then hang all the garden tools on the walls above the trash cans with the handles down. That way you could open the door and grab the handle of the tool you need pull it down and out. Just my $0.02. Good luck.
