nice find!
I'm looking at getting my first house soon too. I assume you're in San Diego, where are you looking to buy? I'm scoping out Oceanside and Carlsbad

Save the $40 and was till one of the ball bearing ones goes 1/2 off.

I got pretty much the same box even cheaper then that from work but if i were to do it again i probably wouldve just waited and gotten something better.

Rando,

That's probably a fair price for that unit, but for a little bit more money you could do way better. And, as many folks have already suggested, it's a pretty flimsy rig with very few drawers.

I would suggest you hold out for something a little bigger, a little stronger, and a lot more usable. 26" x 18" boxes are a good choice for homeowners because they don't take up too much floor space.

Look for a 26 x 18 roller cabinet with at least 6 drawers; 8 drawers would be better. Try to find one with all full width drawers.

Look for a 26 x 18 top chest with at least 5 drawers; 6 drawers would be better. Try to find a chest with all full width drawers. Small width drawers are really limiting.

Skip the intermediate chests, they make your cab/chest rig too tall and your top chest drawers and bin less usable.

Ball bearing slides on the drawers are a desirable, but not absolutely necessary, feature to consider as well. Look primarily for good constuction and drawers that fit and open/close well. Be flexible on appearance issues; most older cabs/chests can be cleaned up with a little rubbing compound and polish/wax.

Happy hunting!!!

I have two of those boxes and a third one with six drawers.
They are fine boxes.
I would buy that if it was local, and I don't need anymore boxes...
It's 16 inches deep, not 12 like the cheap ones.
I've had up to about 80 lbs in a drawer with no problems.
Buy it.

Rando,

That is a much better tool chest. I'm not sure if it is 18 inches deep (front to back) though, could be 16" deep. Take your tape measure with you to check the dimensions and play with all the drawers to make sure they all work smoothly and close right. Check the lock & key too.

Also, you should have no trouble finding a bottom cabinet to match that chest; they're everywhere.

Don't fool around on CL finds, things sell fast. Call seller first and then get there ASAP with money in hand and transportation for the goods.
