Got a call from a friend about a sale. Heavy rain here (normal for this time of the year) so I was surprised he was out.

I'm into sheetmetal work for Traditional Hot rods so he's on the lookout for tools. A good Score at a great price

3 sheetmetal edge rollers for beading.
2 are Peck Stow and Wilcox and the 3rd is one I've not heard of - EasyEdger.

I also got some wire benders which I have no use for but for the package price of $40 for all 7 pieces --- I'm more than satisfied.

I've already got a bead roller but these edger's are just neat.

Movin/on

$40 bucks! You ****!

This summer I got an older All American hand box for $3.00. It's pretty nice, hardly any rust.

Great scores BB and MO! Nothing here today for black Friday tool-wise, but I did get a double recliner loveseat in dark brown leather for the Living/TV room off CL. and worked on the new zuk for a slow leak on the left front tire (stem; popped the bead, pulled in a new stem and reseated/inflated), shifter sheet and bolt for the tyranny and new synth gear oil in the ******, and added an air horn for those holiday maniacs on the roads.. (now what to do about the tailgaters this thing seems to attract?)

Tomorrow may be better, I have two stops planned...

Despite the snow I went to 3 sales today.
First one, Williams adjustable $1

Second one, whole pile for $20

Hammers-Germantown and unmarked, clamps-Brownie and Unbreakable, Chisels-Craftsman long C and unmarked, Craftsman long #2 phillips, Westcott/Keystone curved adjustable wrench, Barcalo-Buffalo wrench, Trimont wrench, Crescent/CeeTeeCo pliers, Diamond 6" adjustable, Craftsman crown logo knife

Third one, they had this box of tools for $60, I laughed.

Small sale, two older vise grips, $ 3, two Binks spray guns, $ 10. One gun looks like it has a larger ofice, I shoot a lot of epoxy.

This sale was a family run estate, I picked up more drill bits, some older CM punches, a CM miter gauge for my bandsaw, a small knock out set, CM snips, Lubriplate, Johnson paste wax, and two chop saws. I'd been toying with getting another one, when I asked how much, at $ 5 each, now I have two. Ones a Ridgid. Look at the blades in the cart, the PO attached a arbor to one, not sure what he ran it on!

Two estate sales today. The first one advertised "hand tools". Everytime I touched something in the shop I heard "that's not for sale". WTF ! :wtf: If you're not going to sell anything, then why bother opening the shop area ? The third time I heard it, I walked out the door. I walked away from some good Cman long-C wrenches, Barco, SnapOn, Proto, etc. It was killing me.

The second sale had tools, but they were mostly new import junk. I found a few things though.

Pic 1 - $12
- an unopened pack of composite shims
- 2 - Peterson/Dewit Vise Grip #11R's (w/patent number cast-in)
- and a pair of what I'm pretty sure are Channellock 7" cutters - no markings
(I hate that tool makers no longer stamp their tools. Imprinting and lazar etching has ruined many a tool search. You would think that a manufacturer would want their label to last as long as the tool.)
EDIT - After a thorough cleaning I found a feint lazar etch using a jeweler's loop. It turns out the cutters aren't CL's, they're a pair of Fuller #190-7 (made in Japan) .

Nothing on tap for tomorrow yet. :dunno:

Probably last flea market weekend of the year - only 10-12 vendors showed up and there was snow on the ground. Any longer and prospective vendors will have to shovel to get in their spot.

Saved these items:

Pics 1-2: all for $2.50
Marshalltown brick edging tool
Stanley 10-499 razor knife
1943 book "Mechanism", really neat, covers a lot of basics (and not-so-basics) about how common machinery works, incl. cams, vectors, torque and simple machine design

Pic 3: all for $4
Craftsman dogbone wrench, a little tweaked on the big end but I think the vise can mash it tightly together
Craftsman offset flat screwdriver
Proto DOE wrench
old brass plumb bob, still sharp and unbent, but the mfr. is worn off

New member, and avid yard and estate sale junkie. Hit a great deal today. It was an estate sale, which around here are usually way overpriced, but the person running this one was giving smoking deals on the **** from the garage. I was 7th in line. Everyone in front of me went for the house, I went for the garage. First thing I saw was the Wilton vise, b-lined for that, unbolted it, by which time the garage was starting to fill. I chucked a few other things in my box as things were quickly disappearing from the tables, and headed for the checkout. Nothing was marked, so I was not sure what to expect. Lady looked in my box, "55 bucks for everything" Almost broke my arm getting my money out that fast. Got a Wilton No 3, 4 of the old Peterson vise grips, 8 Kant clamps, 2 craftsman 4" C-clamps, 2 Starrett machinists bar clamps, A Koolite glass blowers torch unused in the box, some kind of Honda motorcycle special compressor tool, a whole box of SAE Keenserts, and a couple of large pin wrenches that I have no idea what their for. I don't get deals like this every day, but it's nice when it happens. I guess I'm going to have to build another bench for this vise.

Junktastic: nice Wilton and did you pull it apart yet to see the date on the slide? it's pretty nice shape for i'm guessing a 60 year old vise. i want to find some of those Kant twist clamps and looks like you found a few of a couple sizes. nice purchase.

Had no idea the date was on the slide. Just pulled the slide, and it has 1-47 on it. So I assume Jan 1947? Here's a pic.

Great Score Junk T, you for the Vise at a Usuck price, so the rest was free!

Today was a rainy bust for me. Two ads, (may have been the same ad, one was nowhere to be found, but they listed an "intersection" about 2 blocks away, so...) but the tools were all gone...

Junktastic: can you post that on the Wilton thread I started and any other Wilton bullets you find that are stamped earlier than 1970? yes, your Wilton is a January 1947 stamp and we are trying to find out if made on that date or if that is including the 5 year warranty.

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=269079&highlight=wilton+date+stamp

in any case it's in really nice shape for a Wilton that old. nice find.

Jim: I just saw a friend on Facebook offer an old Buffalo workbench drill press model for $250 and I considered but thought it was too much as well. What is reasonable?

I should have said TOO MUCH FOR ME TO SPEND . . . It may well have been fairly priced based on the going market around here but I have limited tool money and even more limited basement space for another DP.

Junktastic >> It looks like Christmas came early for you. Underpricing for quality tools that appear to be in great shape.

I thought this was going to be tool-less weekend for me but then a Garage/Tool Sale showed up on Craig's List out in the far east side. I was waiting for them to open the garage door this morning. Most of the tools were overpriced but I managed to pick up these for a pretty good price.

It amazes me how much tool truck brand tools you find at garage sales. Nice haul

Nice tool finds as usual you guys.

A couple recent finds I had:

S-K 1-5/16 combo, Blue point and K-D Serpentine wrenches, Williams line wrench, Plomb wrench

Williams ratchets, both 1/2 and 3/8 for $15

Reed Vise, looks like a #103 for a whopping 10 bucks and I had the fun of removing it myself too.

Went back to the same estate sale, because it was advertised 1/2 price after 1pm. Garage was ransacked. There were two sheds out back that I did not notice the first time, and they were only partially ransacked. No tools left, but some digging and I found a few good items. 2 Halon fire extinguishers, one 13 pound, and one 2 1/2 pound, both full (these will replace the dry chemical ones I have in the garage now) Some kind of antique tire inflator, a #21 Superior Variable Powerstat new in the box (thinking maybe I can use it as a speed control on my buffer), and a harmonica microphone(I don't know why I grabbed that, maybe I'll take up the harmonica) $20 for the whole lot.

I went to a sale that was in a garage, so I guess it was a garage sale but the prices didn't reflect that. The women was pretty savvy on the price of tools so I feel I may have paid a little to much ( $70 ) for what I have here. The Mityvac looks brand new.

Only allowing me to post up one pic at a time with my phone. I hit the second hand store again. I grabbed just as many sockets as yesterday. A few more Mitoloy, everything else was USA. A Small Mac impact extension also is in the pile. I should be able to put together some sets. Found a few underline C Cmans and two more Snap ons. Happy for $20 again.

if you intend to make money you paid to much. if you are going to use the ratchets then its not really a bad deal.

i dont know why i keep buying tongue and groove pliers. i probably have 40 different pairs now. all are craftsman and channelock. there is one proto. an odd channelock set. they are pretty big. i didnt even look at the part #. this is the only set like this i have. jaws might come in handy for something, i couldnt pass them up.
all the sockets and extensions are wizard cornwell mac or snap on.
1/4 and 5/16 impact on a 3/8 drive. why would you even need something that small for impact? LOL.
excelite and vaco screwdrivers and nut drivers.
nice proto 3/8 ratchet. very very smooth. i cant recall what tool these were 30 or 45?
i have just over 30 bucks in the whole pile.

When you finally run out of space to store all of them, you will probably need to have a session with a shrink to determine the reason.

Nice haul.

No need for a shrink to figure out what to do, just buy another box to keep them in.
