Well, after a bit of thinking & lots of sketching, my plans are set for starting my shop, or "Texas Service Station". I am into old cars, so my shop had to resemble an old shop/station. I started with the desire to have a clean side / dirty side after viewing many different builds as well as trying to keep the house garage clean with the current car build. I had wanted to have a front canopy, but in effort to minimize tree removal, there will not be a canopy (trees will actually keep the front shaded). The building will be a 24'x36' with a 14'x24' wing/lean-to.

It will be roughly 150' back from the house, with the doors facing back towards the house. Future plans will include a couple rooms at the back of the main space for tools / storage.

Most of us use photobucket to post our pics full sized...

I like IMGUR. Not onl;y does it give you a choice of sizes to post, but also provides links with tags that you just cut and paste. This board uses the
tags for photos

But, like evreything else, use what suits you best.

Despite getting rain dumped on us Friday and Saturday, we managed to get the poles up and all the main post lined, plumbed and squared.

What brand of gas will you be selling? Gilmore? Lion? What about sodas? Bireley's Orange in glass bottles? RC Cola for sure. And you gotta have Tom Houston peanuts to go with the RC. Moon Pies too. Don't forget water and air and stuff to clean the bugs off your windshield. Need some motor oil in glass bottles and a couple of Cooper tires on display. And one last thing. Don't forget the condom machine in the gentleman's room and a fainting couch in the lady's.

We were able to complete the rafters on the lean-to as well as get the front wall framed. Didn't get a pic with it completed.

Also got a large amount of main front framed, but no pics lastnight.

I wanted to go the gas station look with my build too. But the city would not approve my original design. I guess they were afraid I would actually put in underground tanks and run a business without a taxable license.
What time period are you going for, looks wise? Late twenties-early thirties?

I wouldn't say a particular time period. Just an older rustic building. I am planning on some letters across the front, just need to determine the best means to backlight them.

LIKE!! Can't tell from the pictures, what is the siding material on the front do you have more detailed pictures?

I looked, but don't have any closer pictures. Its exterior grade, rough sawn plywood. I then ripped standard 2x lumber to make the battens. those are at 16" centers. the tops and sides are 2x lumber as well. I really wanted to do traditional batten-board, but in south Texas it was not feasible. maybe some day.

So after sitting for the summer months, I was able to get the next stage of the shop completed. This last week contractor was out there prepping for and poured the shop floor with an apron out front.

Great build! Love the vintage look  That's a large approach did the concrete contractor put enough slope on it for water run off (can't tell from the pictures)? I just found this thread I'm subscribing...can't wait to see more

There is more slope than it looks, but I still have a little fear in it. I am going to be adding a downspout on that short roof. That should help with a lot of it.

With the amount of rain we've had in the area of late, a downspout may not be enough😝! Hopefully you didn't get too much damage from the recent flooding.

I agree, the front Service station look, really sets it off. Cant wait to see what you have planned for the interior.
