So you have no answer. I'll load the question now- CM and Toptul seem comparable in price.
Where are you getting that idea?
And why would it be relevant?
I have many pounds of both brands, you are comparing apples and oranges here.
And with Apples at 48 cents a pound and Oranges at 1.39 a pound, the comparison gets even sillier.
TopTul sockets are so much better than Craftsman in finish, design, strength and have always cost me WAY less than Retail Craftsman.
Now Craftsman off E-bay can be cheaper than TopTul, but only if you buy large quantities.
I don't care where a tool is produced if I need it, but prefer local given my druthers. Which is how 80-90% of the posters in this forum feel.
You buy local over import yourself.
You are right that there are a lot of incendiary remarks posted, guys who say things like 'if it's from Harbor Freight, it's junk' that of course, are not true.
But you also get a lot of 'fan boy' posters for various European tools that are frankly, junk. I have lots of them, brand names that many say are just wonderful. They aren't.
Halo effect, and it's universal.
In most of Europe the Halo effect is almost compulsorily.
In France, it is required.
So allow for the people posting to be human beings. Not some vision of the way people should be.
