Gerard, do all the drawers lock when the lid is closed or is the middle drawer still free to open? I'm not sure if that is a security drawer orjust a regular drawer without locking provisions in the middle.

I have a similar matco and it is not a security drawer. You will need a ~1/8" piece of flat stock, slightly rounded on both ends and the top needing a hook to grab the lid catch. Is the engagement points of the top lid and middle drawer in the same plane?
Well, its had theses locks with lock all the drawers except the center.

They are spring loaded and go into the back and get pulled up and down by the lid.

The top compartment has a 1 1/2 in cut in it.

and the middle top drawer has this.

By the offset I think the lock might have 2 bars or like you said one that locks the top and just a bar that lock the center drawer.

Have a good one, Gerard

Picked this up today as part of a package deal, some minor rust in a couple spots, but the felt is shot in a couple of the drawers. I'll have to do a little research as to how best to replace it.

scored this decent Gerstner this past weekend. It needs a few things, handle leather, mirror and badge but the wood is in amazing shape and I believe it has newer felt.

Then I pulled out the bottom drawer and found this nice surprise on the under side. Was super excited about it, thought it was very cool piece of history.

I will be adding to that list for sure

drake- cool find on that gerstner.
i thought it was 60s but that marking on the drawer bottom really makes it legit.

markings like that dont happen often, but when they do it's just to cool

I got one recently almost identical to that, in bad shape. The felt was mostly shot, I pulled it all out and found that the drawer bottoms were rusted where the glue had been.

I've been making slow progress with sanding and painting, just trying to learn what works and what doesn't. Tried a hammered brown to match the Kennedy textured brown, not even close but still think it looks good so am going to use it.

One thing I've learned is that spray painting drawer insides is a hassle because the paint does not want to settle in the corners. I also learned the hammered spray paint doesn't look hammered until you spray it pretty heavy, almost too heavy. Very fine line there. Oh, also, sanding in corners is a problem too.

Posted this up in the Garage sale thread last week and got mixed reviews on what brand this toolbox I just picked up is. It's definitely been repainted. 12.5" Tall, about 12" deep, about 24" Wide
Any thoughts from you guys?

That's wayyyy overpriced if you ask me. I had that exact same bottom box. It's a decent box, but I wouldn't pay more than $150 for it, $200 tops.

Here's a couple pics before the ad is deleted

i agree it a waterloo.
the handles yes. they're 70s waterloo. but the biggest tip off is the "folds" and edges of the metal. definitely waterloo. 70s or 80s.
the thing i cannot pinpoint it the drawer configuration.
and the comparison(from the pic) of the top box to the bottom box.
could be one of the odd bottom boxes that are 28" wide:dunno:
not common, but i hear they exist.

Pretty sure it is a 33" x 18" bottom box with a standard 26" x 12" top box.

Hello everyone. This was my first toolbox. My dad gave it to me. I always thought it was cool. Maybe I'll restore it someday, but I like it as it is. Does anyone know what brand it is?

They were sold by several different places, with slight variations in the stripe - I have one myself, it was my first toolbox that I got for Christmas. If I remember correctly mine came from JC Penney. They've been discussed here a couple times, you may be able find more information with a search.

I picked up this box a couple months ago and before I could get it out of my truck a co-worker made an offer I could not pass up. At the time(and still) I don't have the available floor/wall space for this cabinet or I'd have kept it. Dave sent some pics over the weekend of the after a detailed degreasing, cleaning, lubing and polish. He did a great job and next time I will make room for a find like this.I know its a Beach box but unsure of the vintage.

That thing is sweet !

A couple weeks ago one like that was advertised for sale in metro Toronto on kijiji.ca which is the Canadian equivalent to our Craigslist I believe. From the photo is had looked mint and only used in the guy's garage. Guy only wanted $375 for it.

I wanted that thing bad but had no way of getting it home and then there is the border thing. I tried to convince a co-worker that lives in Ontario to strap it to the roof of his little BMW convertible and bring to work . Needless to say it was only listed for like 5 days and it was gone, surprised it was up that long.

I want one

Any Canadians know if this particular box was every badged as a Mastercraft box from Canadian Tire?

Oh Boy, that Beach box is going to be a tough act to follow. Really sweet setup. Anyway, here goes: Picked this up Dayton built in Jan 1977 from an ad on CL, for $50. She should clean up nice, the previous owner built a couple of custom drawer compartments, and added a round locking bar to the front of it. It matches up pretty good with a waterloo top box I picked up a few months ago.

dngrmse-that dayton box is cool and made by waterloo also.
the handles and the folds/cuts of the metal edges are a dead giveaway.
if you say '77 i guess you found the date stamp.

dngrmse? dangermouse? i had completely forgotten about that cartoon until just now:beer:
