Goof plates??

Normally "goof plates" are jumbo sized to cover up a larger then intended hole around the box, almost looks like the old buff color Wiremold used to paint their products.
The only difference between these and the ones in my walls now is the thickness, they are the same width up and down and even less than some of the one I got in the wall upstairs. Maybe the thickness was for accent to compliment molding or something. I don't see how these would cover up a larger than intended hole. I don't know.
No other markings I can see. I will look at the plates tomorrow with a loupe and see if any are on the plates.There any other marking on the box or plates? They are a oddity.

Perhaps the goof is that the box it too thight with world and you need a little more room so you can move the outlet out a bit

The depth of the plate makes up for having too thick a sheetrock, or mounting the box too far back for the finished surface, or having too much wiring stuffed in the box.
