Why drink the koolaid? You can get five 44" HF for that asking price and get thrice the amount of storage.

A $1000 would be an awesome deal in my book, $1200 to $1300 if I really wanted it. First off, he is wrong on several points. The bottom is at least 15 years old, that is how long it has been discontinued. The top and lockers, hard to say since they have been in continued production the entire time. New, if he paid list, it's about $5000 new going from memory of buying a very simple set up in the early 2000's which is to where I date this box. My guess is he didn't pay list, I was into my set up for less then $2000 after haggling.

I paid 350 for a two year old bottom (mine is the wide drawers , 400 for the top and 200 for the three Drawer center section. That was all CL finds. I would love to have one of those side cabinets! I'm just Thinkin out loud here, but If I were in that deal, I would give 200 a side cabinet. ThAt means I would be in that setup for 1350. If you interested , take a stack of cash, most you are willing to pay , a way to get it all home, and see where it goes. Even at 1500 that is a good bit of storage. Assuming the side cabinets are useful. Only drawback I could see is the split drawers in the bottom.

KRA are still good boxes.

I thought you always paid at least asking price, if not more if it was a good deal? Whatever happened to that ******** you spewed? Pay the guy what he's asking or don't go pointing your moral compass at all of us.

No, No, No, Mr. Wild Cowboy that is way to much for you to pay for that old over priced scrap metal pile of tin, why you would do much better heading over to the Harbor freight Store and paying much less money and picking up a brand new unit. :rocker:

Hey you know what.....this is right. ^ ^ ^ And I took the bait. Op is "that guy".
So I will retract my first thoughtful and sincere post, and leave you with this...

Pay the seller more than asking price.....or......just stick to what you know best.....harbor freight quality.

1st off  based on the OP.
He says he firm at $1800, I wouldn't bother. He'd need to drop the one for me to consider it.

:+1:

And seeing as how it has been listed for a month, looks like the local market agrees.

I pay over the selling price when the price is below what's fair - I am not an expert on SO boxes, for all I know that box could have been worth $500 at a fair price, given its age and condition. That's why I asked what is a good deal. What I pay also depends a lot on the socio-economic level of the person selling it.

I pay the poor big bucks, and I put a whoopin' on the wealthy, the likes of which they have never seen!

Robin Hood is a good role model, as is Jesus, Gandhi, and Cesar Chavez! :)

Hey pugetdude,

I would like you to know that I am an assman at HF, I used to own a snap on truck, my cousins friend's uncle owns a mac truck, I also work at wendy's in product development, and I graduated from an all girls college, twice.

What does all that mean, IHNFI.

I guess Im in the minority but I think thats a decent price if its in good condition. The top and bottom minus the lockers would be $1800 on my local craigslist. If its in excellent like new condition like he says I would pay 1800 for that. New thats well over 5k.

Considering they are asking $2500 for this Craftsman box, that Snap On would be in the $5000 range here :lol_hitti

I'm in the sub $1000 group on that SO though for a smokin deal and up to $1200 if you really want that style.

Strouty,
It means you are well-qualified to debate redistribution of wealth; one toolbox at a time, in this thread.

Nope, I specifically skipped that class, I thought I would never need that information in real life. I took geometry instead.

Op should ask all those widows and destitute sellers he threw extra money at in their time of trial and need if they could spare a few bucks to help him pay for this toolbox ......... (karma and such. Remember?)..........

i aint gonna pick or pile on cowboy.
his avitar alone makes me want to like him.

anyhow, heres what i think. since i'm giving my opinion free if you dont like it you can have your $ back:lol:

at $1800(seller says firm) that seems like a square deal to me. that's a lot of box(quality & storeage) if you wanted it.
IF you want a snap-on.
also there is the area/local to concider. that setup would sell for that price in my area, highly populated and a ton of mech/body shops.
out in the country i bet it would go for less.

to the orig question. what would be a smokin deal?
i'd think ANYONE here would say 11 to 12 hunge would say that's a good price.

anything under a grand would put you in "you ****" territory.

We aren't picking on him, merely a little hazing. He is so vocal about certain things he was asking to be slightly abused.

Mr cowboy op...... I like your new avatar. It is much better than your old one of the salad dressing guy.

But while you're busy experimenting with avatars.......take a look at this one........

Coming from the guy whos signature was about buy a hf box and how so is an over rated box that does the exact same thing. Or a signature quoting one of his own stupid quotes about wrenches. If it was a dollar it would be to much. Its your world we are just useless people breathing your air...

Can't argue with your rationale here.
