Josh, have you been searching CL ? If you can spend that $80 for the HF plus tax, you'll have $85-86 in it. I'm not sure where you are in Ohio but this came up on a search near Columbus.

You're about half way as far as the money goes if you can afford that HF box. Sit tight for a few weeks and see if you get any cash for Christmas. I realize you're only 16 but do you have a job or a way to earn a few bucks, maybe a loan from the parents/grandparents.

I can't imagine that HF box being as good as an older Keneedy box.

Welcome to GJ.

m in middletown, I just figured this would be a decent box to hold my machining tools which are not used every day and abused. I also wanted to get the hf box so i could make room in my 13 drawer craftsman box. I was planning on using my christmas money on tools lol. I guess ill see what happens. thanks alot though!

I've got a similar chest I picked up at Lowes years ago. Nice light duty box, but wouldn't recommend heavy tools in it. I use it for my gun smithing and cleaning tools.

Pass. But I'm not a fan of small machinist boxes. Unless that is all you have room for (20" wide). If that is the case I'd get a kennedy metal box over the HF wooden one. I've played with them in stores and they are pretty cheap feeling IMHO.

If you have the room a standard 26" top box would be alot more, durable storage.

I got one awhile back for my machinist tools. It was okay for awhile, but started to sag a bit under the weight of the tools to the point where the lid doesn't close properly. I would hold out for a better box if possible.

ive seen these in the store and theyre really cheaply made.
one i saw the display model was falling apart.
dont do it.
gerstners are expencive but keep your eyes peeled on CL for a decent used one or even a gerstner international.
or even better for under a hundred bucks you should be able to find a decent 20" kennedy.

Make one.If you can't put together something as simple as a machinist box forget being a machinist.

I believe you are fairly close to me (Louisville ky) I've seen the smaller Kennedy boxes for as little as $20. I kicked myself for not at least calling on it. What I did was find an older used top chest and used it for awhile. We (my family) cleaned out an old shed my late step dad used to make golf clubs and I found the chest I use now. Keep looking, you'll find something.
