How would you set up the bottom half of this cabinet? I got it on craigslist for all my trays of fasteners, and love it. ($90 well spent IMO) I don't know what to do with the bottom half though...

Here's my old system...The bottom right had drawers with cut PVC pipe "slivers" as drawer organizers. Yes obviously i'm cheap!

I would buy a couple of sets of ball bearing slides and build some full width wide shallow drawers to fit in there, for storing power tools.

Obviously not as tall and not the same use, but I built these wardrobe cabinets for a friend, using drawers on bottom because a low shelf like that is useless imo.

Wood working tool cabinet. Google it there are some extraordinary ones out there.

I wish when you quoted a post the entire post including the attachments would show.

Anyway, storage units like that are undeniably beautiful, but in my world of almost no more useable wall/floor space, they're just unrealistic. Some of these "condo boxes" that have maybe 15 or 20 incredibly well sorted and organised tools layed into a drawer like a sales display kind make me laugh. I probably have more tools in a 26" 13 drawer Craftsman top/bottom box than many people do in a 52" top/mid/bottom setup.

I'm not knocking the ones like that. Maybe it's jealous denial...

I'm looking to build a similar thing, but probably not with hardwoods, more on the cheap side.
As a diy homeowner storing a variety of bigger, bulky tools is a pia. I need an organized place to keep my reciprocating saw, circular saw, jig saw, 1/2hammer drill, 3/8 corded drill, 18V power tools etc... And all the accessories that go along with them. Drill bits, saw blades, squares, fixtures, hole saws etc...

It probably wouldn't work for me at this time. However, for somebody with an attached garage workshop, it would hold alot and neatly. From hand tools and power tools to fasteners and such. You'd just have to arrange it to fit your stuff.

If the cabnet is designated for fasteners the I would keep my large boxes of deck screws/nails/etc. or for my shorter lengths of ready-rod/all-thread. I use a space like that on my shelf to hold my blow-molded cases of tools that don't get used weekly.

Yeah, that is my situation. I have the attached garage and need to organize the tools as I mentioned. I use regular tool boxes for hand tools and wrenches. I want mine to be mounted to the wall instead of on the floor so I can clean or store things under it.

It really depends on what you need space for.

Most of my portable hand tools are not in the cases but the ones that I take off site still are.
Would be a great place for cases or seldom used but necessary items

Maybe if the pictures were even smaller I could give some suggestions, but…

^ those bottom shelves are useful if you are 5 and like to play on the floor. Much like the shelves the OP has. Regardless of what you put on the shelves, you'd be silly not to put drawers in.

How do I make the pictures bigger? They were really good quality pics that I uploaded, but they came through really small unfortunately.

Are you sure you didn't accidentally select the thumbnails of the pictures? I've seen the pics I upload retain full size.
