Craigslist ripoff

Dude charged me 3 times the new price for this 24" Craftsman level. The drill was a little more reasonable, just the $32 it went for new at a 1954 liquidation sale according to the newspaper clipping and reciept.


The level I think I'll use, the drill is just a display piece for my small but growing collection of vintage electric tools.

The lack of any apparent "shelf wear" or dust/grime is remarkable. Where had these items been stored all these years?

I think my dad has a drill very similar to this one. If I recall his is a Montgomery Wards item. His is in rougher shape. Ha!

It was the sellers deceased uncle who he described as a bit of a tool hoarder, kept in a basement workshop. He had some other pretty cool stuff I missed and some other stuff like Dunlap hand tools that would have been easy to flip but I'm not really into that game. I was tempted to buy more but I'm actually in more of a selling mode this year and didn't want to backslide.

I found an old Popular Mechanics ad from I think 1949 with this model 510 at about $30, the upgrade model 550 with the Jacobs chuck was about $35. Not sure but by the mid 50's they were probably pushing close to twice that price..... it's a heavy sucker.

I have an old Montgomery Ward drill that looks exactly like your zephyr drill....except mine has had some hard use...

It's pretty easy to check info on something before you buy it.
Unless your from the stone age you have a smartphone. It wold take me 15 seconds to find msrp. You can only blame yourself. In fact the seller is probably innocent and naive.
