USPS said my package left Bethpage facility on the 15th...then no more updates :-( If I don't see a posting soon from my victim I will send a message.

This thread is killing me. I completely forgot about it and wanted to be a part this year. Guess I gotta keep out of the hot deals section a bit more.. If there's any way to still participate I will ship to an admin / mod that will do a secret swap..

I have to say that I saw the hand-decorated box when my SS posted it earlier in this thread (#323)and thought "that looks interesting, I hope that one is mine! ... lo and behold, it showed up today.:bounce:

And now I'll have to wait to open it on Christmas day....

Thanks to my SS, to B&W for putting it together, and all who participated this year.

I had a change in factories that was a shock and occurred this week. Im shipping mine tomorrow or friday at the latest. Having to change a couple things since a deal I had made on something my secret santa had specifically mentioned fell apart...

Shipped mine out yesterday but forgot to put anything GJ/SS related on it to warn against opening. Hopefully he doesn't open it!

I received mine! I'll get a picture posted tomorrow. I'll be shipping mine out (finally) today or tomorrow. Work has been unexpectedly crazy the last couple of weeks. Luckily my package doesn't have far to go.

I just had an amazing experience!

Last week I wasn't feeling great. Monday. Tuesday. Wed. kind of dragged along. Thursday came. I went to work. Stayed an hour and went home. By 8pm I was in the ER.

Turns out I have an unidentified virus. Wonderful. Meanwhile, my SS gift isn't prepped or sent and I'm in bed.

Yesterday I final finished everything up and went to ship it today. Of course my recipient isn't in the USA and I have no idea what to expect form Mr. Postman.

I get to the post office with my gifts in a bag and an empty box. The plan is to go to the counter and get the best method to ship. The line is 8 deep.

It final comes to my turn. I go up to the counter and explain what I want. The man takes my stuff and weighs it. I start contemplating about the monthly payment plan after hearing the cost.

He say's "Wait a minute, that box is too big. Let's get a smaller one." Really, a government employee offering extra service? I looked around to see if he was talking to a hot blonde somewhere.

5 MINUTES later he came back with the perfect box. The line behind me was not very happy. I thanked him. He then grabbed my bag and poured the contents in it. This also happen to contain my packing tape and a half eaten snack. He then says "Shoot, only saved you five bucks". At this point, the crowd had already drawn their concealed weapons.

I decided at this point it would be a good idea to end the conversation and move on. I thanked him again and told him that sounds good and I'll go prep the package.

I turned my head to hear then heard the sound of packaging tape. Turns out he's gonna do that for me! I did manage to get my tape and snack out of the box, but everything else went "as-is".

So, the box got taped shut. No inside packing, Prices still on the stuff. (kind of embarrassing, one thing was on clearance...) Dust and dirt on other stuff. A empty box and the stuff that was suppose to go in it was somewhere on the bottom.

I just want to applaud the guy for the extra help. I'm still not feeling great, so the extra assistance was very welcome.

To my Secret Santa receiver, sorry for the mess! I hope everything mostly survives!

Merry Christmas! :)

Ha!

Read thru last years SS thread.

I bet a lot will get out even as late asthis coming Monday as well.

Cutting it close is the GJ mantra for many.

That;s why if y9ou do not get your gift before XMas, hang tight, it's likely on its way.

:)

Got mine yesterday!

Aw maaaaaaaaaan!!!

Not only did you get a huge-*** SS gift but you got a new washing machine too???

You ****!

Wish you had too.

I could use what you've got in your avatar! Tell 'em I'll pay for the bus tickets!
I'll do plane tickets... Just sayin'! I can't have those fine young ladies on a bus!

I got mine like a week or so ago, but have been too busy to post the picture on here! Now I play the waiting game... And I have to hide it from the g/f so she doesn't try to wrap it and put more of those big bows on it. :lol_hitti

I haven't seen my guy post if he got it yet, so fingers crossed since it was going to Canada. Speaking of, and not to beat a dead horse or seem thankless to Blacknwhitepit for organizing this - but I would also be in favor of trying to keep shipping within the countries. It cost me $20 to ship to Canada using international flat rate. I know that's not a huge amount to some, but this time of year it definitely hurt a little bit. I cannot imagine those of you who had to ship overseas. Just my $.02 nothing more, sorry if I sound cheap!

It cost me $20 to ship to the upper midwest. Shipping just seems expensive everywhere.

I have an idea as far as shipping strategy, for next year. We can break it into zones. Say Those that PM add a C (for Canada) in the PM subject bar. Then that's the pool of recipients for that area. Same for Europe. If the guys stateside wanted to do this, as well, we just do an East/West and divide the country (in advance) so that residents in the middle could figure if they were east or western group.

Count me out of that. I'll ship anywhere. I really enjoy this SS program and i like seeing the gifts everyone opens. Some of you are very creative and include items only available in your area ( esp overseas items). If i have to spend an extra 20 bucks on shipping, i will.
Most of us are men, and as such really go out and buy what we need, when we need it. For that reason i didn't reply to the " getting to know your..." thread. I like opening surprises.

Noticed the gift i sent made it to my guy today, now i can relax.

What happens to that lone Aussie or someone from South Africa? Mexico or SA? It's not that simple.

I agree trying to save on shipping makes some sense, but it's not that easy.

I'm with Outlaw on this. Being my first year in SS i was fully prepared to ship to anywhere in the world, never doing it before seemed a daunting task if i had to. Also for the guys that dont want to ship outside the country, you may recieve something from across the atlantic or pacific so how can you say you wont ship outside the country but it's ok if someone from outside the country ships to you? It's all part of the fun aned excitement that the GJSS brings and the rules too.

It appears mine is going by dogsled. It took 3 days, but has arrived in Wisconsin. Can't be too long now. I check several times a day!

Now, in secret present department I am waiting for a plain brown package from James_B and his laser engraving business. Mrs Outlander will be getting a little something she does not expect. :)

I do think you hit the nail on the head here - I prefer the surprise. If I wanted to tell someone what to buy me then I could have skipped the SS entirely and just bought what I wanted with the money I'd have spent on my recipient.

I didn't think the organization was simple and splitting the US sounds complicated. I was just thinking that with flat rate boxes and such it might be a little easier here in the US. I also realize that at $20 for mine it wasn't nearly as bad as some others. I'm glad I did it either way. :rocker:

Well, my recipient should be really surprised since his post was not terribly helpful and even so I had to resort to plan B due to my initial plan falling through. At any rate, package shipped out today, cost $15 to travel a few states over, but it'll be there on monday.

I'm pretty excited myself!

I disagree on the SS clues part, thats all most of us really wanted or needed from our SS was a clue as to what their hobbies and interests were so we could get something remotely near what they liked, so the recipient got something they could at least use or appreciate, which was/is one of the biggest hurdles in shopping for someone else, at least in my opinion. ..
