Hey, new here. Love the site. I'm hooked.

Well, after researching different flooring options for a the past few months, I decided to go with VCT tiles.
I went in to Home Depot to look at pricing for the VCT tiles, and I saw these Trafficmaster Allure Vinyl Floor tiles.
http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs...794&AID=10368321&cj=true&srccode=cii_13736960

They had them on sale for $23.50 CND / box. That's less than $1/sqft and pretty much the same price as VCT.
They look like good quality, and they are really heavy and dense (fiberglass reinforced).
I bought 8 boxes on the spot.

I live in Vancouver where it rains half of the year, so I get a lot of water in the garage. I liked the idea that these Trafficmaster tiles are waterproof.
I also liked the fact that I could use a jack and jack stands on them and that I didn't have to glue them down.
Very low maintenance. No waxing, stripping, just sweep them clean.
This garage gets used everyday...so lots of traffic.

Well the install took about 3 hours by myself (mostly cutting tiles, these things aren't easy to cut. you have to score them with a SHARP knife about 6-7 times before you can break them).

Installed a few days ago, and so far I'm pleased, and they are definitely water proof.

So, $200 all in for durable flooring.

After (it's just a little dusty, not scratched):

Next is baseboards, paint, lighting, beer fridge, and more organization...

Looks cool. I'll recommend the rubber base cove over the vinyl (cheaper version). Also-tough as nails regular grade works just fine for adhesive and is cheaper than the special base cove cement. It grabs quicker too. Use a notched trowel to apply it working on a layer of heavy paper or plastic sheet to contain any mess. Just finishing up base cove on a 1200 SqFt garage/shop myself.

They show up as $3.09/sq ft online in Seattle too. I'll have to check them out the next time I'm in the store.

They look like a RaceDeck like product....correct?

They are solid vinyl tiles that overlap and stick together. Probably 0.25" thick.
They don't clip together like RaceDeck.
Oh, and they're 1'x3' tiles.
One box of 8 tiles probably weighs about 25lbs.

My local Home Depot website says $3.09/sqft, but in store it was discounted.
For $3.09/sqft, I would go with something like RaceDeck or Norsk.
But for $0.99/sqft it's definately better than VCT (maybe not as pretty, but definately more durable).

That is a China made PVC product (Poly Vinyl Chloride). If it is the same samples we looked at, there may be expansion and contraction issues in various climates.

If its a floating floor with the proper expansion gaps on the perimeter.

I dont think it would have expansion or contraction issues at all.

Yup, floating floor with about 0.25" gap on either side.

I guess we'll find out in the summer, but it rarely gets above 30C / 86F here.

Richmond Home Depot.

It's hard to explain how they stick together, but it definitely works.

I'll take more pictures later.

Interesting stuff, for the price you paid it looks great. It appears it has an adhesive strip on two sides to attach to the next piece, similar to the female loops on two sides of the Snaplock products. If that is the case it is pretty clever.

I went and looked at the allure flooring for my basement. This exact product is available in a wood floor, slate tile, and the diamond plate.

All the tiles "look" like the real deal when installed.

However, after researching the product and reading alot of reviews on it I passed. Seems that the edges where the tiles stick together lift very easily over time.

I also had gotten a sample piece from home depot. I brought it home and just sorta slid objects around on it. It scuffs super, super easy. Horribly actually.

VCT scuffs really easily as well, and gets discolored by oil/rubber.
And, on sale, this is in the same price bracket as VCT.

Time will tell how it holds up.
I'll try and post pictures again in a few months.

I would not recommend buying this product at full price, but on sale, I would say it's a decent product.

I took a look at this tonight. In Roswell GA FWIW. It was $58.00 a box. I actually like the look and feel of it. I am at a cross roads on what I am going to use.

I have 2 boxes of the Rustoleum epoxy (red box) sitting in the garage. I was going to do this, but honestly, I am not willing to put in the time to prep the floor correctly. So, if anyone wants it cheap, and you are in the area, LMK!

I was set to buy VCT and put it in this spring. It was going to be a lot of work but much less of a chance that my prep work would cause it to fail. I even picked out the colour scheme I wanted. The price was right on it too.

Now I see this stuff. Even easier to install, good price and it comes in all kinds of finishes. I really don't like the diamond plate look, but the granite look wasn't bad. I'm not sold on it though. No offense to the OP, but I don't really like the fact you can see the seams and joints. It looks like the pieces aren't flat or something in the pictures.

Does any one else have pictures of this stuff installed?

I am considering the Trafficmaster Garage Allure Flooring ($1.99/sqft) for my garage.
They are waterproof, do not need to glue them down and easy to install.
I live in Ottawa, On. where it snows several months of the year, so I get a lot of snow and salt in the garage.
However, I wonder whether they trap moisture between the concrete and the bottom of the product, and the likelyhood of mold developing under the floor.
Any idea or other concerns I should be aware of?

They are definitely water and oil proof (my car leaks power steering fluid, and I put it away wet all the time).

They seem to be holding up well. Oil does not stain the tiles.

As I said in previous posts, I believe at $1/sq.ft it's better than VCT (especially for water resistance),

At $2/sq.ft it would be a toss-up for me.

How slippery is this stuff when wet? We have a similar vinyl tile product in our utility room, and it's deadly slippery with snowy shoes. Interested to see if the embossed diamond plate helps wet traction.

It is an interesting product. It seems as though they stick together more firmly over time, until they are quite hard to separate, but when you are applying them they can be peeled apart and restuck for a better fit.

I saw this product for the first time in my local Home Depot (in Chesapeake, VA) and it definitely caught my eye. It was on sale for $2.**/sf, and the ease of installation and the fact that basically no prep is required is what really caught my eye. This is something that I probably wouldn't do until at least next year (other stuff around the house to finish up).

I'm bumping this thread to see how well things are holding up for the OP. I wouldn't necessarily go with the diamond pattern myself, but they had a grey color with a flake in it (basically what I'd do if I did an epoxy floor) that looked great.

Any updates?

Hi,

I did my whole basement, including the washroom, with the home version of this. TrafficMaster Allure. I also did the inside of my cargo trailer with the blue checker plate version that is mentioned at the beginning of the post. The two products are quite similar in how they install. I do not know if they both use the same adhesive but if they are then I would be a little cautious about using it in a garage.

In the basement bathroom it is common for water from the show to end up on the floor. We recently had a lot of guests staying at the house and the floor in the bathroom is now lifting at the seams.

In both the basement and the trailer the floors do scratch easily. After a while their are enough scratches that you no longer notice them but the material is soft and does scratch.

I am currently building my garage and like lots of us on this group, flooring is still my biggest concern. I want to put something down once and never tear it up or regret my decision.

Take Care,

Albert

Being a floating floor, how are thresholds at entry ways handled. Does Trafficmaster sell a trim piece to finish the raw edge, more specifically how is the tile edge finished at an overhead door?

I brought a piece in my garage to check how it is resistant under my ATV tires. The tires has spikes on them. And it is very resistant. No marks, no scratch... The ATV is V Twin Arctic Cat and it has full power, so just touching the gaz buttom and it eat the floor. My concrete floor is scratched from the prikes but not the Allure sample, so is it tuff enough? Make your own opinion!

Went to HD to check this stuff out. It looks fantastic in real life, comes in about 5 colors I think (let's see, black, gray, blue, red, white?). The OP says he got it for $1/sq ft. Stuff is $3.75/sq. ft. now. Too bad it's so expensive, this stuff is really nice and specifically identified for use in garages.
