Vertical cabinet stays - Can't Find the Correct Hardware!

So, I'm working on finishing up a mudroom so I can get back to the important stuff (my shop!), and the upper middle cabinet pictured below is designed to have one single lift up door (kind of like the overhead bins on an airliner). She wants this wide unencumbered space to put blankets and stuff cause we have very little closet space elsewhere in the house.

I plan to build shaker style doors to cover all of the openings. The door that needs to be lifted will be about 50" x 20" and will weigh around 10 lb. There's going to be some pretty elaborate 5" crown above it so I can't put in a piano-style hinge across teh top of the door. I wanted to put to vertical cabinet hinges from the inside that would swing up the door w/o the need for hinge, but I'm having trouble finding a set that would handle the weight and span. I thought this might be the ticket, but calculating the "Power Factor" it puts right outside of range of their heaviest set.

Does anyone have any experience or suggestions of how to tackle this problem? A different approach or type of hardware? Feel like I'm spinning my wheels right now....

Thanks,
Adam

This a very common door type hinge for european cabinets. That being said, there are lots of options out there, just tricky to find them.

Blum is a good hardware company with a wide variety of hinges/assist.

Check out their Aventos HK line- http://www.blum.com/us/en/01/10/40/

If you have a Ikea near, you may be able to scavenge some of their hardware on the cheap?

tarbellb, you just referred him to the exact hardware he posted.

Look up Sugatune from Outwater Plastics.

Here is a link to the first page in the catalog, there are 7 pages so just click to the right to see them all.

Awesome, a bunch of great options. I'm going with the gas assist struts from Sugatune, and a couple of the faceless frame euro hinges from the big box to serve as a hidden hinge. Never heard of it but I've bookmarked it now, cause lots of great hardware options.

Thanks!

I actually ordered everything from here. At the big box stores, $5.50 for a standard Blum full overlay hinge, another $3.50 for the soft close feature. From the Outwater source, it was $3.29 for a softclose hinge fully integrated in one. That saved me easily $100. Thank you!!!!

Adam

Glad the OP found a good cheap solution.

toxicscrew- I looked at what he wanted (50" at 10+lbs) and these hinges easily meet those criteria. He linked a page with a Blum link but wasnt sure if he had found the literature. So..... whatever.

Moparfreak- glad to help and that it worked out. I've bought a lot of stuff from Outwater for different projects over the years. Crazy weird stuff they have in there.

Tarbellb - Ah, understand, I wasn't trying to sound like a dbag, kinda of did on rereading it though.

Well I wanted to be all pissy about it, but then I read this AND checked out that site you linked. WOW. There are some really cool and very hard to find products in there that I have either been searching for years to find or paying more for.

So..... thank you Toxicscrew. Heres  to not being dbags to each other.
